Can anybody stop Antrims eight in a row?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So, Derry V Down in the Ulster semi. Magic Johnson scores 3-4 against Armagh in the quarter, and Derry beat London in a thriller by one point. Who do you fancy for the final? Can either of them stop an Antrim 8 in a row?

I imagine it will be a Down Antrim Ulster Final - with Antrim winning by at least 10 points in the final.

Hey Patrique thats an impressive top ten in the Antrim Times very diverse just like Antrim GAA. I would have to say the travelling people probably best illustrates the technical brilliance of Luke Kelly's voice the range is unbelievable
By the way I was off the board for a while around the time of the Tesco incident how is St Comghall's dealing with it since, been much fallout?

I believe Down have a great chance of winning Ulster this year. As you said Magic is on fire and probably start on any county team in Ireland bar Kilkenny. Down have gathered some momentum with 4 wins in a row and should beat Derry but, Derry always raise their game for the Ardsmen. If Down can keep winning and get past a very tough Mayo team in the CR Cup they have a chance. Antrim and Down are going in different directions, Antrim are in disarray with injuries which is unfortunate because as an Ulster Hurling fan i would love to see them beat Dublin. They would have a chance if Sambo had a full squad. This might be Down's year , fingers crossed and hope we keep everyone healthy which is key.

Pat - The pick of Derry and Down wouldn't beat Antrim to be honest. The only thing that could stand to either of them would be more Championship games under their belts and they catch Antrim cold(ish).

It'll be a couple of years until Derry get the 2 under -21 teams through until they challenge them. What you think?

Down have beaten Derry recently and so we will feel we can repeat that again. With Antrim focussing on their historic Leinster championship match with the Dubs maybe we can catch you on the hop and seize the Ulster title.

Definitely Antrim for me. I agree that a best of from Down and Derry wouldn't beat them..... Am really interested to see them in Leinster, I think it's a great opportunity for them to kick on now....

antrim have numerous teams in all the codes
Its always heartening to see new GAA fans coming on board, especially people willing to aquaint themselves with the broader GAA canvas.
believe me once you start it will get in to your blood and always be part of you once you get to know all its nuances

very glad you started this post paddy. what i would like to know is why, when antrim clearly feel that they are too good for ulster hurling, you are still playing in the ulster championship. as a derry man and a hurling man, i would love derry to win the ulster championship again, and as we have won the last 2 under 21s im sure it will come soon, whether antrim stay in ulster or not. what i think is that antrim are not giving the same respect to leinster as gakway are, sure there is no connaught championship, but galway are there to win leinster. it seems to me that antrim are only there to improve thier game, keep pulling away from the rest of the teams in ulster , all the while still trying to win the ulster championship. antrim winning ulster is an even lesser achievement than kerry winning the munster football championship. i say get yer balls out of the freezer and leave ulster and aim to win leinster within 10 years. dont think by the way i am anti antrim because i would love to see you wim leinster, but you shouldnt be able to win ulster as well, which in thoery at least you can do this year. even if it is only in theory. i willi always support an ulster side against any other, therefor cant wiat when im going to croke park in september to watch antrim beat kilkenny in september and lift liam. (i just hope i have enough years left in me)

Antrim should stay in Ulster because they represent the next step up, a Liam McCarthy team. Keeping all the counties in Ulster offers a clear path for improvement from each of the 3 lower tiers up. Anyway ask the Derry or Down hurlers would they like to go without a skelp at Antrim and see what they say.

If Antrim don't get the injuries cleared up then Down have a very good chance. Derry aren't quite there yet though.

the problem with derry hurling at the moment is derry football. far too many of our hurlers opt for the big ball instead of the wee ball. i know other counties have similar problems such as tipp and limerick footballers playing hurling. in todays games there doesnt seem to be any place for the dual player at county level. if you look at the derry panel that played monaghan, there were at least 6 players either starting or on the panel, that would more than likey start, and if not at least be on the panle pushing for a place with the derry hurlers, and some of the under 21s like s l mcgoldrick, and chrissymckaigue are excellent hurlers not to mention s m lockhart, mark lynch and paul cartin the list goes on. the more success derry football gets, the harder it will be for derry hurling. sad but true

Derry Hurling just isn't very good that is the only reason they won't beat Antrim it has nothing to do with how 'good' their football is because in all honesty Derry football isn't

How many years now have we been hearing 'this could be Down's year'? Antrim to win this year's Ulster SHC with little difficulty, as usual. Dooher you can wise up as well, at least Antrim compete at a reasonable level in both codes, unlike Tyrone.
