Dublin V Meath isn't everything it is cracked up to be

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

While the '91 saga was entralling it was hardly classic football. However, the remainder of their encounters in the late 80s and remainder of the 90s are very much to be given a wide berth. I believe the term "pulling and dragging" was coined in this period. Certainly could teach the Ulster lads a thing or three about puke and negative football.

Ah disappointed lads. While your football is puke I thought you could at least take constructive feedback. Sorry lads thought there were GAA men home!

Ah come on lads you aren't seriously suggesting Drub V Mead grudge matches are anything like the school of GAA excellence that is Ulster football? Mossbags what is the official HS stance on that one?

I'm well aware of where Louth is. I just thought we should examine where we are as a province in footballing tersm as oppsoed to Ulster. We lag way behind and for posers to slag off Ulster as being negative when Leinster has the two biggest negative influences on the game in Meath and Dublin. I hope this changes.

But as things stand I see Wexford and Kildare as the new Leinster and they are the teams we should be getting excited about.

Louth are one of those counties who are envies of Meath big time,It's hurts them terribly that it's been so long that they have beaten them in the championship, hard to have played much "puke football" with players of the class of O'Rourke,Flynn etc and then Giles,Geraghty and Ollie Murphy later on...

I do remember the early 90s are there was a lot of off the ball incidents,as you say pulling and dragging, but i think tyrone brought to another level and this is where the term puke comes from.Diving wasting time lying down injured JUST RUNNING THE CLOCK DOWN AND SPOILING FOOTBALL.If your happy watching that footb all best of luck to you.Its not for me

I think the Louth fans are just a 'wee' bit jealous that they don't have a rivalry to shout about.....

Dublin V Meath was entralling in 1991, but Down won the All Ireland, a bit lucky to beat Derry in Ulster.

So although it caught the imagination, it was not featuring the best teams.

I believe spillane called it puke because of the blanket defence. However, it was his kerry team who invented puke football. Pot kettle etc...

I love Dublin/Meath clashes and always enjoy them. Nothing beats rivalry. Could I get a bacon burger and whatever you want yourself?
