I hope I'm wrong but I think Mc keon has not been as good for the last year as he has been for the last 10 years. Remeber he has a lot of miles on the clock. He's playing senior since 2000 and he has been immense in that time but there were signs even last year against Galway that his pace has slowed a bit. Same with Foley we all know how good he has been but maybe he's not as fit as the likes of Gilmartin, Glancy or O Flynn and maybe M&M are right to play them aheah of them. We dont see whats going on at training. smokinjoe (Leitrim) - Posts: 126 - 26/05/2009 12:33:29 294132 Link 0 |
mckeon is only 27 smokin joe, bit early to write him off in the pace stakes! i think we're goin to do it, carrick is our house. "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog." dundee_gin (Leitrim) - Posts: 206 - 26/05/2009 12:42:15 294153 Link 0 |
Morning of the match...something about the Rossies in Town today that makes the hair stand on the back of your kneck. Ticket bought in the local shop in your back pocket, jersey on your back which you stole from your cousin(a panelist on some ill fated county minor or under 21 development squad), no time for Mass, no time for Sunday Lunch (you'll grab a hotdog off Ritchie's stand at the ground). Game not till 3.30 so you'll leave with 6 clubmates crammed into a VW Golf around one o'clock, have to be on time and get a good spot behind the goals. Wait for 20 minutes at the Masonite Junction trying to edge out onto the N4, end up parking somewhere near Jamestown or Drumsna. Buzz in the air, fog horns in your ears and ice cream in your gob. Give a ten year old in a high viz four euro in change for a programme that costs a fiver. You don't know why you buy a programme 'cos you know everyone from 1 to 30 and could write a thesis on their plusses and minuses. Goals at the town end(sure it's where we always stand), Lurgan Boys on Tour near the score board, BELIEVE in the distance, Gorilas on The Pitch. This is Championship. dundee_gin (Leitrim) - Posts: 206 - 26/05/2009 13:19:46 294207 Link 0 |

I never said McKeon was past it I just think he's hasnt been as good in the last year to 18 months up to his usual high standards. He's been our best player for the last 5-6years so I wouldnt slag him off. I just think that he may be suited to centre back more than full back nowadays, same for Reynolds. smokinjoe (Leitrim) - Posts: 126 - 26/05/2009 15:27:31 294435 Link 0 |
doctor doctor what are the romours & where did u hear them? mac21 (Leitrim) - Posts: 677 - 26/05/2009 15:31:26 294441 Link 0 |
Alot of people are getting very worked up about the potentially new full back line. The reason we always say that we have one of the best full back lines in the country is because they are always in play as we keep losing the ball out the field and it is been pumped back in on top of them. We have a chance to correct that now adding speed and inteligence to the half back line. So I dont think this "new" full back line will have to perform the same heroics as the "old" one as they will have better cover and support. I think McKeon, Dermot Reynolds and Glancy will cause any amount of problems to any team. McWeeney, Shane Foley and Gary Reynolds are their for cover but good luck to ya if you can tell me who deserves their place over another. sorry smokinjoe, maybe i took u up wrong but i still think fullback is where we need mckeon & where he is most effective. agree with the reynolds move though, think he'd contribute greatly on the half mac21 (Leitrim) - Posts: 677 - 26/05/2009 15:43:15 294464 Link 0 |
i'm very confident, provided we play we'll win, give an all round performance as we did in parts in the wicklow game for the whole game and we'll take it and send that shower back to shellbyville. charlotted (Leitrim) - Posts: 598 - 26/05/2009 18:37:38 294745 Link 0 |
my starting team would be: e lyons d reynolds j mc keon m mc guinness shane foley b mc weeney g reynolds g mc closkey s canning m foley d o connor p mc guinness r cox d maxwell j glancy i've gone for cox purely for his ball winning capabilities, i'd give him 20 minutes and if he's not doing any damage id bring in j holohan. cant understand why the management team would even think about changing our full back line, sure its been our rock for the last few yrs! and these folks saying mc keon has lost his pace jesus lads are ye for real. the mans a class act end of! wouldn't have p gilmartin and o flynn near the starting team , j clancy (st marys) is better than both of the above. think we'll beat that shower from across the shannon on sunday but a couple of points with j glancy and d maxwell causing havoc in the full forward line! mc gloskey and canning will be immense in midfield and that will be the platform for a great day for us! mulligan is a massive loss as in the league he wasn't only hitting the frees from all angles he was picking up a sight of breaking ball and becoming more and more of a playmaker for us, but even without him i think we'll do the business! juande_ramos (Leitrim) - Posts: 95 - 26/05/2009 19:00:19 294767 Link 0 |
Can't argue with that team Juande. I'm worried though can we score enough to take the Rossies. Was at a lot of the league games and there was so much chopping and changing when has this team last played together. Are they a settled team because I dunno if I seen a settled team during the league? Grey_Wolf (Leitrim) - Posts: 236 - 26/05/2009 20:31:22 294843 Link 0 |

I hope thats the not the way they line up. Half back line looks weak. I doubt they will line up Beirne at centre forward. smokinjoe (Leitrim) - Posts: 126 - 27/05/2009 09:43:53 295110 Link 0 |
can any1 confirm that team?? mac21 (Leitrim) - Posts: 677 - 27/05/2009 10:32:01 295150 Link 0 |
& is m. foley really injured?! mac21 (Leitrim) - Posts: 677 - 27/05/2009 10:45:32 295164 Link 0 |
if thats the team then we're screwed. how the hell is shane foley not playing? half back line will get creamed. half forward line very weak. and no established free taker playing. my optimism for a win has been shattered. melvinman (Leitrim) - Posts: 171 - 27/05/2009 10:46:53 295167 Link 0 |
I doubt very much if that the starting line up. Half back line needs strenght and surely foley would start with a broken finger. i have often played with a broken leg. champions1990 (Leitrim) - Posts: 95 - 27/05/2009 10:51:56 295173 Link 0 |
