Armadillo County: Leitrim Posts: 24
284405 leitrim have a great chance on the 21st.. i heard from a member of the team tat it will line up with, gill, prior, pat gilmatin/O flynn, mc guiness, mc weeney, mc keon, dermot reynolds, canning, mc closkey, maxwell, mick foley, philly, ray cox, mossey, james glancy! is that leitrims strongest team?
Yes Armaillo, you are right we would win quote handesomely on the 21st especially as the Rossies won't be there til 10 days later
However if that is the starting full back line even on the 21st I wouldn't have much confidebnce

Attn Doc. Great reply from you at 11:58 today lad - I sense a mild up-surge in your spirits. As for your latest post in response to Armadillo I must say I fully agree with you, but then again it's only speculation as to what the starting 15 will be. I'm not going to castigate players by no means, but too many of that preliminary selection are out of place from normal slots. If M&M go for specific man-marking, as that team may suggest we're doomed. Imperatives are McKeon at 3 and Maxwell at 14 for starters. Shane Foley must start at 7 (his best position) and his experience and ability are un-doubted. No doubt you have your own views but between the good and genuine posters here we'll hammer the best 15 together between us.

Aout time we started a discussion on the upoming champonship match. In fairness, leitrim are a bit of unknown quanitity this year. New management, alot of player tried out in the league, and the loss of mulligan. This means it wlll be very hard to call how the team will line out.
I spoke to a member of the county panel recently and he told me that leitrim are flying it. In particular Canning. The man is supposedly playing savage stuff which is great news. Leitrim will have a decent backbone - MKeown, mcweeney, foley, maxwell, mcguiness, reynolds, mcgloskey and canning and sme good fringe players like philly, jimmy glancy and barry prior. But y big concern is free taking. Foley has never been good enough for leitrim or at free takng. If its a tight game, this ould be the difference which makes the loss of mulligan even worse.
It would be great for the county and in particular this group of players to beat ross - thy deserve a bit of success so wishing them the very best of luck. As for team - well I will have a crack at it - Gill, McGuiness, Gilmartin, Barry Prior, Reynolds, mckeown, foley, Canning, mccloskey, philly, Maxwell, DOC, Jimmy Glancy, Beirne and cox/foley

doc , all thats wrong with u is u are afraid to believe! & without belief a team will never win..
personally i think we have a massive chance on the 31st. everyone knows theres very little difference between the majority of teams in div 3 & 4.
the loss of mulligan is huge, but i think m. foley can pull it out of the bag in the free taking stakes! was at the wicklow match there in the league where he scored some fine frees for tight angles & from huge distances.
i'm quietly confident we'll do the biz on the 31st! & a mad session to follow ;)

If mckeon does not start at full back, we are wide open to attack. I would rather see mcweeney center back. Dunno I hope its good and tight in last five mins cos we could sneak a victory but it would not suprise me if we are beaten by 5 or 6 points. Also mossy not good enough at full forward, Maxwell will end up there anyways

Wouldn't surprise you if we were beaten by five or six points? Sweet Jesus, it'd bloody surprise me! There's no way there'll be that sort of margin in the game. A bit more positivity lad. I agree with you comments about McKeon though; he has to start at full-back.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion Melvinman, yada, yada, yada but no S Canning, no B McWeeney, B Prior at centre back (were you at the game in Salthill last summer?), and who are these mysterious 'na' twins you've plucked from obscurity? ANy relation of AN Other? WHo will actually fill these positions?
James Glancy centre forward???? Just saw that now - was this a serious selection? Did David Bradley hijack your account too?
p.s. I think B Prior is a good footballer imo, just not the man for centre back, consider him in the corner or even wing forward to work up and down....

waifster i didn't post that team. another guy called Melvinman17 did! he's an imposter. the team he picked shows he knows nothing about leitrim county football. he's obviously never even seen shane Foley's name printed on a programme or it wouldn't have spelt it Fowly. i like Na twins though! maybe they are cousins of those brazilian twins at Man Yew!

Enda Lyons D Reynolds J McKeon M Mc Guiness J Glancy/G Reynolds P Gilmartin S foley S Canning G Mc Closkey P Mc Guiness T Beirne M Foley Ray Cox Declan Maxwell J Glancy
Beirne may not be the best option for centre forward but our options are limited. Maybe P addy Mc Gowan could be considered as a half forward.
Also Pat Gilmartin may not be some peoples choice for centre half back but word is that he is going to start in the full back line which is definetely not his best position. Barry Mc Weeney could also be considered but I think he is a bit too light, his build has been a problem previous times thst he has played here.
Anyway thats just my opinion, as I've said before I just don't think we can win it.

Enda Lyons / Noel Gill D Reynolds or B Prior J McKeon M Mc Guinness D Reynolds or B Prior (like the idea of Reynolds moving forward linking up play, can move forward and score too!) P Gilmartin S Foley S Canning ( need a perfomance, if we get it, we win) G Mc Closkey D O'Connor T Beirne (bit unfair on him to be in such a pivitol position so early) M Foley ( castigated him many a time for getting easily dispossessed but have praised recent performances - has strenghtened) R Cox (if he misses a few early on, then exit stage left pronto; accuracy was appalling in the league) D Maxwell (His presence there is enough to cause jitters in Ros defence) J Glancy (Not great at winning a ball, can;t to be honest, but uniquely for a Leitrim forward knows where posts and net is)
Along similar lines to Doc Shepherd for me......jeez the loss of Mulligan is huge.....like everyone really worried about free kicks. Question? Could McWeeney play CHF is Beirne doesn't work out? Is Gilmartin versatile enough to go there if in trouble, i saw him a couple of years ago in Carrick way up the field ghosting past players? Long shots I know, just curious - don't know enough about him, but impressed when I saw but not really tested at county level.
Overall, can't see how this is anything other than a 50-50 match - anyone who says otherwise is either on a wind-up or looking through blinkers. Roscommon have definitely progressed since last year but on championship form in recent years they do have a long way to go. The Leitrim team has a bit more experience about it and have generally played very well against Roscommon in league games. Probably equal levels of confidence and wariness in both camps.
Cliche I know, but "its on the day" - put to the pin of my collar and asked to pick a winner, I'd genuinely go with Leitrim - but as a gambling man my hard-earned and hard won cash is staying in my pocket.

Cant believe ye are giving p. gilmartin the no. 6 jesey. Is he really in the shake up for a starting place - it baffles me if he is. Center forward is going to prove difficult however. this would be my starting line up based on all games ive seen N.Gill
B.Prior J. Mckeon M.McGuiness
D.Reyonlds B.McWeeney S.Foley
G.Mcclouskey Mossy Beirne
P.McGuiness S. Canning M.Foley
J.Glancy D.Maxwell J.Holohan
Main subs: G.Reyonlds for B.Prior with D.Reyonlds moving to the corner DOC for P.McGuiness B.Gallagher for M.Foley R.Cox for J.Holohan P.McGowan for M.Beirne
Open to abuse now
