Ah theyre arite. I like seeing them beat Rangers and all that but Scottish football couldnt interest me less really. I didnt cry yesterday like.

By the way, is it not a bit unfortunate that you post this thread the day after they lose the Old Firm...??

Yes they are a fine club indeed, however not the greatest that title belongs to Liverpool FC est.1892.

I have to laugh at this fascination with Celtic, I wouldn't be surprised if most of their players haven't even heard of Ireland.

Having said that, John Hartson and Alan Thompson were very good in their day.

Altogether now "And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay.........". Indeed we are the finest team in any land but have made a large faux pas this year by not signing a striker in the January window. It's going to cost us the League and that's not good enough especially when this Rangers side are mince. If we don't win the League we will have to play 2 Champions League qualifiers and our current squad is not capable of beating two decent European sides in a row. I mean we struggled against Aalborg last year. Rangers will go straight into the CL group stages and will earn millions if they win the title and so there would be some serious answers required from the manager and board.

If ye don't like Celtic then don't post. Loyal-- The fact that the tri colour is permantely flew over Celtic Park means everybody knows how the club started plus the firsat thing you meet when walking in the door of the stadium is a tribute to the clubs Irish roots. Please get your facts right before posting. Not to mention that they send more players over to Ireland for the A.I.C.S.C dinner dance than any other club does to any other supporter function. P.s. Strachan must go... Not playing McGeady in the last 2 league Old Firm clashes has cost us the league

Looks like the Teddy Bears are about to win their 54th title, increasing their world record.

Mind you, my team, the one with the Irish connection, could turn them over on Wednesday.

The state of soccer must be bad if Celtic are the greatest team to ever to kick a ball... And Rangers are bound to be happy after the weekend then..

A serious question here now.

If Celtic and Rangers were put into the English Premiership, do you think they would survive? In 6 Champions League meetings V Manchester United, the 2 sides have won 4 points, all of those coming from Celtic. Celtic have knocked out Liverpool in European football but could Celtic's squad cope with the rigours of the English Premiership?

Personally I think Stoke City are a better side than Celtic or Rangers and Tony Pulis should be awarded manager of the year.

Celtic are more then a football Club. The late great Tommy Burns said when you pull on that jersey you are not playing for a Club you are playing for a people and a cause. If you are not part of the Celtic family then you can never understand what its all about, the League is not over yet, Saturday was a disappointment but its not over till its over. Celtic have one of the biggest fan bases in the world, has a first class 60,000 capacity stadium which is capable of being expanded to house another 10,000. If they had access to the Sky money available to the Premiership and the increase in merchandising revenue that would ensue from playing in the premiership, I have no doubt that within 4 years they would be challenging the top 4 in England.

corkcelt,

when English sides were banned from Europe between 1985 - 1990, a lot of players moved to Scotland to get the chance to play in Europe. In that time, neither Celtic nor Rangers contested a European final and Dundee United were the only Scottish side to contest one (1987). That was in an era when both Celtic & Rangers could match the spending power of the English teams.

Then you have the current era, defined by Martin O'Neill taking an average Celtic team to the UEFA Cup final of 2003. Rangers under Smith took a worse side to thew UEFA Cup final of 2008. Is this the pinnacle of these clubs achievements? Both clubs have failed for years to progress due to their desire to put one over on each other. When Rangers tried to do the 10 in a row in the 1997-98 season they put all their efforts into it as did Celtic stopping them. I think that title race took so much out of both clubs that is set them back years.

The fact of the matter is, Celtic & Rangers cannot exist without each other and are not good enough for top class football.

Slayer,

I beleive if it did happen they would struggle at first due to the lack of quality in their squads, but as the money came in they would be able to attract world class players.

Celtic play in a Mickey Mouse league and still average 58,000 for home games. People underestimate how big both clubs are worldwide with only Man Utd and Liverpool been comparable in England.

Saying that it'll never happen but still United needed an 84th minute equaliser this year in the CL and Celtic were decimated by injuries. Not bad me thinks considering how no one esle scored on them away from until Arsenal the other night

There is a nasty sectarian element to celtic & rangers. That is why a lot people dislike them. As corkcelt said above they are about 'a cause' and not about sport.

Both clubs have done a great amount of work on cutting down the bigotry. It's not perfect but not nearly as bad as 10 years ago. Its certainly no worse than the bile Liverpool and Man Utd fans spew at each other.
