Excellent club player - Never made it for county!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No way is ronan ward better than sean cavanagh. Look, Ronan Ward is an excellent club player and no doubt would start on the tyrone senior team at corner forward ahead of penrose, but that is just my opinion. Last year i was at the Loughmacrory vs Aghyarn match and was talking to a few supporters from Aghyarn and they admitted that Ronan ward was twice teh player of penrose. But that was last year and penrose now fully deserves his place on the tyrone team. But still, i beleive Ronan ward was one of the best players in tyrone not to be on the county team.

Ronan Ward is as good as him though. Were you at the Moy V's Loughmacrory match?

I have to honest and say I have never seen Ronan Ward play... has he ever been given a chance to make the squad via McKenna Cup?

For godsakes how would Ronan ward be as good as Sean Cavanagh. The only time I see Ronan play is against Carrickmore and the 4 times they have played in the past 2 years a succession of markers have kept him quiet. He would not have touched the ball more than 20 times from play over the 4 games. Enda his brother has given Carmen more bother. John Gallagher is the best player the Lough have!

Anybody else think marty conway would be good enough for the county set-up? Starting to rack up big scores in the last few game. He can play anywere on the pitch which could of been his downfall in county terms as when he starts to make a name in the full forward line hes moved till half back.

Have to agree with you castle top. Marty Conway has certainly found his form again and is back where he belongs, in the forward line. He did a good job for Greencastle in defence but he is a natural forward, very hard to stop when running at you with the ball.

Errigal was "Daisy" a minor a few years ago?

What ever happened to Declan McCrossan?

I think Declan felt he was worth a a starting place on the team but Mickey obviously felt otherwise. Last game I remember him starting for Tyrone was v Down in drawn Ulster Final 2003. Nevertheless I don't think you could say he never made it for county.. 2 NFL titles 1 Ulster SFC and 1 All-Ireland medal (apart from underage silverware) in a very brief Tyrone career. Often felt he should have stayed on but maybe others could shed more light on the full story...

Too much talk of ronan ward.. i played against him a couple of weeks ago and felt from open play.. he did not do as much damage as has been said on this! from dead balls.. has to be one of the best in the county but his brother enda has more ability than him!

i feel niall conlon deserves to be given a chance at county level.. heart and determination into every game he plays for his club but has been unlucky with injuries.

ive seen him play, i played with him at the academy on the mc rory cup squad but hardly county standard. He had the potential to be a good club player but that year he suffered a very bad spine injury when playing for edendork, i think he has never recovered from that and injury after injury means he plays very little anymore. he was marking a mate of mine in that game you talk about and from what i was told he didnt get up and play on, he actually spent a week in hospital after it. hopefully 1 day big kevy will get his injuries sorted and show his potential, especially if we ever get to play dmore

snegarty have u nothing better to do than slag players on this site, its obvious your from dmore aswell. I do see his potential, you dont get on an academy panel without having potential. He earned a place on a 30 man panel were there was up to 70 lads trialling out. i would say there is nobody more frustrated than him that he doesnt manage more games for dmore, i suggest you give the man a break and if your a player yourself you never suffer what he suffered. and yes your right he did collide with his own player but certainly DID NOT play on, i suggest you pipe up child.

Diasy was a minor in 2003 when he scored something like 2-6 out of Tyrones 2-7 to defeat Derry who were defending All Ireland Minor Champions. Why has he not made it with the county - he was in the panel for McKenna cup a few years ago. I know he has discipline issues this year hence his demotion to the 3rds.

As for McCrossan, he was and still is a great player. Not sure what exactly happened but maybe what was said publicly at the time was true, that he was building a house and starting a family etc. Or maybe there was more to it. What about Brendan Boggs from the same club, he was on the panel a year or two ago - whats the latest with him?

Other players I think could have done with a run out for the county would be the like of Ronan Lafferty from Urney, Marty McNulty from Strabane or Danny McBride from the same club.

I find it ludicrous for anyone to state that Daisy McDermott has discipline problems and in the same breathe to suggest Ronan Lafferty could do with a run out for the county.

fair enough, i went to the academy with him too. If your an edendork man you will know the injury problems hes had. I wouldnt go as far too say hes a brilliant player but when fit he gives a lot, its just dissapointing he may never use it because the last a friend of his told me was that he was considering retiring. I hardly call breaking your nose in 2 places that needed 2 operations to fix minor. Hes a quiet lad and im sure he doesnt need his name being all over this forum snegarty. Is it possible to contact him? because we are having a class reunion and nobody can get in contact with him.
