Excellent club player - Never made it for county!

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Conal Martin from Eglish, excellent fielder of the ball, strong as a bull and has a brilliant engine. Steven Donnelly from Aghaloo, proven free taker and consistant from play for many years now. Caolan Daly from Eglish played Tyrone minors in 2005 or 2006 i think, whichever year they got beat by down in omagh with the last kick of the game near enough, he then broke his ankle and in his returning match against moortown broke his arm in 2 places so missed another year, been playing brillianty for Eglish this year and last and surely deserves a trial with tyrone?

JJ Cavanagh Pomeroy Plunketts - Knee injuries wrecked him, otherwise he would have made it.

Frank mcguigan junior and Brian McGuckin? Both these men have n.f.l medals and Frank has an all ireland. How did they not play for Tyrone?

I don't get this Brian McGuckin 'should have played more for the County' stuff. In my opinion he got sufficient chances under Eugene and Art and wasn't up to it. Just like Damien Gormley in the Mid 90s - an exceptional club footballer that just wasn't good enough to make the step up to be a top class forward.

Liam (LeLe) Patterson Drumquin, Flying machine still at 35, could & should have made the Tyrone Senior team.
This man is a Legend in Drumquin, Played on the Tyrone Minor Team that won the Ulster Title back in 93, but he was always overlooked for the Senior team as his reputation for a quick temper went before him....

Liam Patterson's quick temper maybe, but the fact that he is about 5ft 2 may have stood against him as well bro, as Pat Spillane might say he was just too small.

True, his height probably stood against him, but back when he was in his prime (25-29) Fay Devlin was an outsanding "Small" corner back. Nowdays "Small" players like Martin Penrose, Mickey McGee & Dermy Carlin have all contributed to Tyrone's All Ireland win's despite their lack of height.
Anyways as with most clubs, we all could name player/s who we think could & should have made it at county level.
Liam Patterson is my nomination from our club........

Ps, kelvin hughes was on the county squad at one stage. think it was league 2007, remember being disappointed cos he didnt live up to his potential.

Aidan Lynch from castlederg, top scorer in minor championship in 1998, won an all ireland minor and was one of the star players, had the hard task of replacing paul mc girr in the team in 97, and then won a hatings cup at u 21 level was top scorer and then was dropped for the champioship squad due too work commitments! Classy forward with a brilliant left peg!

Of course Wee Gormley played for the Tyrone seniors, he may even have played for the county in hurling and handball as well. He'll even soon be eligible for the Tyrone over 40's.
