Assuming Mayo don't go on the lash and field a serious championship winning senior team the result will be:

Mayo 5-15
NY 0-9

NY will play a good first half and will be close to Mayo right up until 5 - 10 minutes unto 2nd half. Then Mayo (on the above proviso) will go on a scoring spree and end this charade.

Hopefully NY will put up a good show...still think NY should play either Leitrim, Roscommon or Sligo in a first round game...there's much more chance of an upset(even if Leitrim did beat them well last year).

thats not nice solo theres a lot of good gaa people living and working in new york to the best of my knowledge the connacht council give a % to the county while new york give 25,000 dollars . i saw a lot of good kk men hurl in gaelic park . i do believe however that it should be an american team with the north american board joining up . mayo to win rather handy mahony has a nice balance and they could have a big say before the year is out

new york do not belong in this competion at all and it is time their chairman would admit this. getting hammered every year is not the way to promote football for the youth but more of a turn off. mayo will win by atleast 18 points.

Anything can happen. New York has a good panel. I think it will not be a walk in the park for Mayo. I'm off to the match in a few hours. We shall see.

I'm on New York and will attend the match. As long as Mayo are leading by 10-15 points at half-time, we can relax and enjoy the second half.
It quite hot in the Big Apple right now and that could be another factor facing Mayo.

new york made a good showing for themselves, held the lead for the first 20 mins, if they had had nicked a goal, would have been a much different game...new york came out red hot...much better showing then last year, proved a point as well, they deserve to be in the championship

Oh well.
It was brillant day. Perfect weather for a match. A little breezy. Gaelic Park was standing room only and I think the Mayo supporters outnumbered the NY supporters. It's great to see the people come out from Ireland to support their team. I know alot came out from Roscommon for their match last year.

NY took off to an early lead. Mayo were playing patiently and after 15 minutes they kicked it up a few notches. Then they racked up a bunch of points and a goal. New York had some good plays in the second half and their goalie made two great saves to prevent more goals, although Mayo did get a second goal.

It probably seems like a waste to have a Connaught team come here and whip NY's butt. But I do appreciate seeing SFC level teams come here. And also there has been teams come out many times before. Especially in the 1950s and 60s alot of teams came from Ireland to NY. And one time the All Ireland was played in NY in 1947 between Cavan and Kerry.

I stand by what I said. Complete waste of time.....and I think you'll find from previous posts that I have said numerous times Kilkenny competing in the National Football League is the same...Pointless.
I acknowledge a lot of people unfortunately have to emmigrate but dragging teams over to New York is ridiculous. What's next Galway V Sydney in Sydney. If teams like that are to enter the Championship they are the ones who should be travelling and if you're going to use the arguement that they should be in the Championship then we may as well enter Canada, Australia, Dubai etc

To be honest it was an exercise in futility.I just don't think NY or the likes should be competing in that grade of championship football. It is time to do something with the football.Have a secondary competition which is linked to league position because that might do something for the leagues as well.It really is a joke. What of real value did either get out of it?

Its brilliant for all the irish in new york and america to have that connection to home. The comments by solo and northpole are quite sad they obviously have no understanding what the gaa is about.

whoever says this trip is a waste of time doesent know what their talkin about, even pat spillane sed it was a waste of time. this is the same man who often says the gaa should be marketed better at home and abroad. if gaa in nyc and the us is to surive then it is fital that they stay in the connacht championship. as some1 who was over there 5 years ago, it is much more than a gaa match its like a mini all ireland weekend to the irsh over there. i thought the gaa stood for more than just money, fair play to them for keeping this fixture going.

p.s as regards expense and i may be wrong here but nyc gaa give a sum of money to the travelling county board!
