Junior championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

As I was saying Ballycastle wont get out of their group but by all accounts were unlucky to lose with Castlebar bringing on a few senior players for the last ten minutes and one of them scored two monster points in the last three minutes. Surely this is not a fair system for clubs like Ballycastle, why is the senior and intermediate competitions not started first. Then again Ardnaree and Lahardane are in the same boat and as predicted will be the only serious North Mayo contenders going on their weekend results.

Ballycastle very unlucky in that game by all accounts. The system that pertains with the Junior starting a week earlier is unfair to exclusive Junior teams. Of course the powers that be dont care about the Juniors no more than the Mayo senior management do. I would propose that for one season the County Junior championship is confined to Junior and Intermediate clubs.Let the exclusive seniors play out a ``seconds``Championship with cups medals and sponsorship on offer.

yes schwa i was at the same game and they look to be a nice team who have quite a few young talented footballers.it is probably not likely for them to get to latter stages but to qualify from group would be a huge achievment. they are also going very nicely in league so some sort of silverware might not be very far away!

Senior clubs have been loading their second teams for years when it comes to championship, Its one of the advantages of being a big club! Its luck of the draw if you can avoid them in the early rounds of the group stages and pull them in the latter stages when the first team has riddled them of all their Quality!

Wouldn't hold your breath on an "Exclusive Junior County Championship". Although the thought of it is intriguing. Realistically, The junior championship rounds should be the last to be played, after the senior and intermediate rounds.

As a man associated with a smaller parish club i think you are better off having the b teams in the championship. plenty of exclusive clubs beat them every year and win the championship plus it increases the standard that any club will need in order to win.

p.s villamoy, are ya on a crusade against ballycastle or have ya become a big fan?

Not many b teams win it or have won it.. Crossmolina a few years back is the only recent one I can remember off hand.. Anyone got any more examples?

just point n out to afew posters that they were talkin rubbish about ballycastle ie.tomlangan, ballycastle, and results hav proven right since ,all b it castlebar used a few seniors in the closing mintues, they hav a very young team and are rebuilding at the moment, and if they progress like kilfian did over the last 6 months then fair play, but giv the young lads a chance and not 2 b blowin them up to win county champship,ONE STEP AT ATIME

Castlebars team that played ballycastle where all u-21 lads except bout 5, da oldest was at wing back nd hes 24....da guy who scored da 2 monster pts off his left ws john ger stenson, gifted footballer played minor few years back with county bt went off da boil recently...castlebar didnt use any senior players that match nd john ger is a sub on da seniors so i think ye might b dishing castlebar 2 much here. they train as a team of their own and have no involvment with da seniors.

ballycastle have a few years of work and they will to give some awfull amount of commitment before they can make abreakthrough, rome wasnt built in a day! as for kilfian they were fit early but the better teams will have caught up when the championship is in full flow. it will be interesting to see how far they get this year.

Lahardane are going nicely at the minute. they have beaten ardnaree twice in recent months, hav drawn with ballyhaunis and beaten ballina b and eastern gaels despite not having a full strength team in any game this year so far. should at least match last year in getting to county s final, maybe more

Good post from our buck.Yeah Lahardane are a very good side who could win the County title.Yeah Lahardane are modest too,and sending out all the right vibes. But what they dont realise is that there is a "sleeper"in the Mayo Junior championship.

Lahardane have no chance. Yes they have some very good players. But their panel overall is not good enough. Very small full back line, and not much on the bench of note

lahardane hav no chance of winning co championship, drawing with ballyhahahauis, and beating the might of ballina b and eastern gaels, is no form to b going on

Yes lahardane hav a small f back line but ask any full forward line that has played lahardane and they will admit that it is probably the teams strongest area. and as regards not having any subs of note, two forwards and one back that started all last year are away and they will be back in coming weeks. plus there seems to be 2 or 3 injuries every week and still the results seem to be ok
