Winner? What exactly are you talking about? Leinster will have 1 county in the National Football League Div 1 next year, of the 2 this year, one of them lost every match! Kilkenny won National Hurling League with a very competitive Dublin just missing out on making the final of Div 1 hurling league in last few weeks. In next years National Hurling League, 8 of the 16 teams in Div 1 & 2 are Leinster teams, with 3 in Div 1, Kilkenny, Dublin & Offaly. There were 3 out the 4 teams on display in the Div 1 & 2 league hurling finals from Leinster, none on display in either Div 1 or 2 football deciders. In next years football league, there are a sum total of 5 Leinster teams in Div 1 & 2 - 1 in Div 1 (Dublin) as already stated. Kilkenny, a Leinster county, have won the All Ireland hurling title 5 teams since the turn of the Millenium, no Leinster team has won the All Ireland in football since Meath in 1999. So I backed up your point, how? These are the facts I am afraid. What01 (Westmeath) - Posts: 67 - 07/05/2009 10:15:08 276978 Link 0 |

oh so that must be why they put galway and antrim into leinster cos its so strong.ha ha. how many div 1 hurling teams have a hope of winning the liam mc carthy. 1 is the answer. hard to pick a winner in the football. the skill in the div 1 football final far exceeded the hurling. these are the facts. and what01, im from the south not killucan probarly why i find it hilarious to see ye lads tinkin we have any good hurlers. not one would get on a kilkenny, cork or waterford team. whereas many of the gaelic players would walk onto the tyrone team etc. these are the facts!! The minors are flyn this year with back to back championship wins,a feat dat has not been done by previous minor teams over the last few years!dis is probaly the best minor hurling team the county has produced since the brendan murtagh team 10 years ago which lost 2 kilkenny by the narrowest of margins.I myself have seen this team in action over the last number of weeks and can't help but wonder how much better this team could be if all of the top minor hurlers in the county played, not to take any credit away from these young lads and their fantastic achievement!the reason for this teams success is the abundance of talent in the starting 15 and on the bench, with players like nipper dowdall paddy layde and shane donaher etc, fighting to regain their places in the team! Winner, few points. 1. Never said you were from Killucan. 2. Don't care where you are from to be honest. 3. The skill levels in hurling far outweigh that in football as there is an extra component to the game - the hurley. 4. I reckon Connaughton, Keane & Glennon would get on the Tyrone team, whom I think are not currently the best team in the country at the present time. 5. With regards teams in with a chance of winning the hurling All Ireland, everyone needs to realise how special a team Kilkenny are. In my view the greatest ever. Think I mentioned in a prior thread. Tyrone far from the best ever football team. 6. I reckon a number of Westmeath hurling players would get in the Waterford/Cork/Wexford teams, the likes of Greville, Murtagh, Dowdall, Mitchell etc. are very food hurlers 7. Best of luck to our Minor hurlers in the rest of the Championship. What01 (Westmeath) - Posts: 67 - 08/05/2009 13:26:56 278114 Link 0 |
P.S. Hard to pick a winner in the football? 03 - Tyrone, 04 - Kerry, 05 - Tyrone, 06 - Kerry, 07 - Kerry, 08 - Tyrone. A lot of new teams coming to the fore there. What01 (Westmeath) - Posts: 67 - 08/05/2009 13:28:55 278117 Link 0 |
i never mentioned wexford, no way would they get in a waterford/cork team.. id be delighted if you proved me wrong. id like to see the hurlers winning but ye make them out to be kings. people saying murtagh should have got an all star is a serious overrating. lets be honest westmeath are a decent christy ring team. the footballers have got to all ireland quarter finals. thats the difference at the moment. Winner, you're being very hypocritical, I must say. This whole barney started when an Under 21 panelist posted a topic looking for support for their championship game against Meath. All you and that other poster did was slate the young lad and make a complete mockery of the lad and his team mates for being a joke etc. You then slate our minors when a Carlow fan posts a topic wondering what our minors are like. I never said our hurlers are world beaters. Neither did anyone else. However, when mugs like you try to laugh at lads doing their best in the maroon jersey, like many of our hurlers do, I will not sit here and let you slag off lads training and playing the best they can. I believe anyone wearing that jersey for their county is a credit to themselves, their family and club/parish. They are doing far more than you or I at present. I wore the jersey in the past, and will be the first to admit, I was no world beater. I was very proud of wearing it though, even in some very heavy defeats. Now you say you want to see the hurlers do well??? Everything you have said you contrary to this statement. Everything.. All you have done is shown pure ignorance to everything it means to represent Westmeath. What01 (Westmeath) - Posts: 67 - 11/05/2009 13:05:34 280031 Link 0 |

Great performance from the team in fairness Seamus Qualter is proveing again he has the magic touch with Westmeath hurling teams.I thought Cormac Boyle,Glen Flynn,Cathal Scally and Derek Healy in particular were marvellous.Well lets enjoy this after the fiasco in Mayo and get ready for the cats jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1766 - 16/05/2009 21:05:33 285369 Link 0 |
great win for yee today lads.. also great win for laois over dublin.. hopefully yee can go on and do well or even beat kilkenny.. good to see pregress being made at underage hurling in yer county... can only be good for leinster hurling in the future.. hopefully in years to come it can come thru to the senior scene.. hopefully one team out of yee, us (wex) or laois can go on to win leinster minor and break kilkennys stranglehold.. wex2da_core (Wexford) - Posts: 27 - 17/05/2009 01:10:45 285467 Link 0 |
Thanks very much it was indeed a good win but I predict that in the next few years our minors will get better if their attitude is as good as this team.I know George O Connor is doing huge work at young ages with ye guys so I am sure the purple and gold will be back in the big time soon jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1766 - 17/05/2009 13:41:39 285585 Link 0 |
