well carlow town is virtually laois, mount leinster area are more wexford inclined and the rest of the county shout for kilkenny normally in the hurling particularly beagnalstown. although carlow people traditionally arch enemies with laois cause we are both useless and have admiration for our southern neighbours. thats not to say carlow people dont have pride in the jersey it just makes our summers more interestin if we invest a bit of support for kilkenny or wexford. u'll find most of carlow shout for kilkenny and most of wicklow will shout for wexford in days gone by i dunno if this kind of carry on goes on in less successful counties like mayo and tyrone for example do u lads shout for galway and antrim in the hurling. bundoran is another town u cud flip a coin on whether it should be leitrim or donegal. parts of north kerry have more of a limerick feel to it aswell. barrow (Carlow) - Posts: 128 - 26/04/2009 21:59:39 268506 Link 0 |

Toomebridge in Co. Antrim should be in Derry, their heart lies there. Not really Antrim at all, more South Derry. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9818 - 26/04/2009 22:22:57 268523 Link 0 |
ASHBOURNE..... IS RIGHT BESIDE FINGAL AND PLENTY OF DUBLIN PEOPLE HAVE MOVED THERE, INCLUDING THE GREAT JOHNNY LOGAN!!! JOKERMAN (Galway) - Posts: 91 - 26/04/2009 22:26:47 268527 Link 0 |
Bundoran in the southern tip of Donegal definitely has a Connaught feel to it, Sligo/Leitrim-esque. Enhanced by the weird mixture of a Donegal accent which sounds west of Ireland at the same time.. Some would argue that Buncrana has a Derry feel to it. Maynooth/Celbridge and Leixlip are like extensions of Dublin i think! Ballygar used to play football in Galway and hurling in Roscommon (maybe they still do). The great Mattie McDonagh (the only Connacht man to win 4 all-Irelands) was from Ballygar. He played minor hurling for Roscommon against Galway and minor football for Galway against Roscommon in the same year.. Gaillimh_Abu (Galway) - Posts: 1034 - 27/04/2009 00:41:13 268598 Link 0 |
Belleek is in Fermanagh, yet it should be in Donegal, however they do not want them. Trillick is in Tyrone, but should be in Fermanagh. solano (None) - Posts: 501 - 27/04/2009 00:46:44 268602 Link 0 |
Barrow, Bundoran is no doubt in Donegal. Not Leitrim! Kinlough in Leitrim is basically joined to Bundoran though. And most Leitrim people in this area speak with Donegal accents. I myself live on the border with Fermanagh and speak with a strong Northern Accent but would consider myself 100% Leitrim! Most people think I'm from the North and think I'm putting on the accent when I say I'm from Leitrim. Much the same on the Cavan border people in Leitrim there speak with Cavan accents around Glenfarne and down to Carrigallen. I was in college with 2 fellow Leitrim men and we all had totally different accents. Carrick-on-Shannon is half in Leitrim half in Roscommon as well. Ballaghaderreen used to be in Mayo many a year ago(1899) aparently the rates (form of land tax) were cheaper in Roscommon so the local landlord at the time got the border changed so his land would be in Co. Roscommon. Half support Mayo and Half support Roscommon, we got some great Palyers from there James Nallen, Pierce hanley until he left for Australia paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 27/04/2009 08:41:47 268639 Link 0 |

Carrick-on-Shannon, Roscommon or Leitrim? There's a lot of Rossies playing their club football for St. Mary's in Leitrim. leeh (Galway) - Posts: 29 - 27/04/2009 09:31:13 268653 Link 0 |
