Greatest football team you have witnessed

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

For me its the Tyrone team of the last 6/7 years.

I'm 20 so obviously didn't see great Kerry or Dublin sides of 70s/80s.

Armagh from 1999-2006 were also exceptional as are the current Kerry team.

Kerry team of the mid-80's. Was only a wee fella at the time and have vague memories of it, but I seen them so I'm counting it!

I think Kerry in 78 and 79 were unbelievable and they were the greatest and most exciting team I have ever watched and most of those again went on to win in 80,81, 84,85 & 86. The current Tyrone and Kerry teams are both very good and right up there with those 2 would be the Cork and Meath teams of 87-90 but from what I've been watching from 75 onwards there is only 1 greatest team and we all know who that is. Maybe there were better teams before but most of our elders would have said that that Kerry team was the greatest.

DOWN TEAM 1991 and 1994,big powerfull, strong and had a forward line that was just class, linden, mccartan, carr, blaney, gregmccartan.
TYRONE TEAM 2003,2005,2008,canavan,cavanagh,dooher,oneill,mulligan,mcguigan.need i go on.
KERRY TEAM 2004,2006,2007,i know they are in the last 12 every year but only for tyrone been in the way the would off had 5 in a row.
my choice is DOWN because there was no back door and they came out of the hardest championship of all ULSTER.

Micko's Kerry, no contest. I can appreciate the younger posters chosing the more recent teams, like Tyrone. But that Kerry team had everything, and the nucleus of the team stayed together for 10 - 11 years. Phenomenal !!

Tyrone team of the last 7 years. the competition they faced.

Nobody else faced that intensity AND won 3 All-Irelands in 6 years.

The Aherlow team that won the 1991 Tipperary under 21 championship in January 1992.

"They watched themselves all over Christmas" that year...

I agree with "Patrique, Antrim. Kerry 70's and 80's were the best. They had it all. Great backs anchored by John O'Keeffe and Tim Kennelly. An awesome full-forward line in Listom, Sheehy, and the brilliant Egan. Add to this the greatest man-machine at center-field I have ever watched, Jack O'Shea.
Had the pleasure of watching the UCD team of the mid 70's and they were the equal of most county teams of that time.

Kerry '75-'86, Tyrone '03-'08, Kerry '00-'08, Dublin '74-'78, Galway '98-'01, Down '91-'94, Armagh '99-'06, Meath '87-'91,Cork '87-'90, Offaly'79-'82. On a slightly different vein the current Kilkenny hurling team are shaping up to be the greatest team hurling or football has ever seen bar none.

That UCD team was effectively a county team! They beat our Cooley Kickhams in a Leinster final around that year. They had half the country on the team and I wonder was that the UCD team that the Brazilian Socrates was on??

I may be biaised but I honestly believe that the best team that I have seen is the Down team of the early 90's. Their forward line was awesome and in the years since I don't believe a better forward line has taken the field in Croke Park. I was too young to see the Kerry team of the early 80's, so I won't mention them. I have always been an admirer of the Armagh team that eventually landed Sam in 2002, that team should have won more All Ireland's and they played football as it should be played TOUGH BUT FAIR

Apart from the obvious one, Kerry.

That UCD team had Kilmurray, Jackie and Barry Walsh, Moynihan of Mayo, Eamon O'Donaghue, Carty of Wexford, Pat O'Neill, JP Keane, John O'Keefe, and the immortal Benny Gaughran, the best Louth player I ever saw.

No Socrates however.
