Supporting unusual British teams

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'm actually a Blackburn supporter. And no, I didn't start supporting them when they won the premiership. I started watching football in '92 and sadly enough I liked their shirt. I suppose it is a good a reason as any when you're a kid. Anyway I stuck with them through thick and thin, and even though they may still be relegated this year I'll still support them. Oh and there is no better feeling than seeing your team back in the premiership after 2 years out and seeing them win the league cup. It may be the lowest competition for the top-flight but it meant a lot when Blackburn won it in 2002.

Also, I know a few Notts Forest, Leeds and Man City fans (that was when they were rubbish and not rich), even know a guy that supported Wimbledon until they disappeared a few years back. And my brother supports Villa, but as one of the guys up above said, he was born in '72.

re: patrique County: Antrim Posts: 3112 264763 Now bar United and Liverpool fans, I boast that I can tell someone's approximate age by the team they support. Most kids support the team that first registers on their consciousness. It usually registers because they are winning things and big in the media. They are usually about 8-10 when this happens. So if you meat a Villa supporter. They won the league in 1981 and European Cup in 1982 so chances are the supporter was born around 1972-74. You would be amazed at how often this simple rule works with Everton, Leeds, Villa, certainly Blackburn and teams like that. well i'm a villa supporter 100% and i'm only 18. i am the only person in my familly to support them so i didn't follow my father either.

Hipster Glasgow Rangers one of the most successful teams in Britain

In terms of the number of trophies won they are the most successful team in Britain.
Do you really support them. I know a couple of Rangers fans. Don't really understand it given the songs they sing about the famine, being up to their knees in fenian blood etc. Don't think anyone with an Irish accent would be very welcome in any of the Rangers pubs in Glasgow.

Hipster Just looked them up. A few big names played for them in the past.See they are currently in BSG midlands division 1.
Is that many divisions away from the football league?

Patrique,

I agree with your theory and have long felt this way. I see lads at workshouting for Man Utd. They fit right into that bracket. Man Utd won nothing from 1968 until 1993 (of not anyway). many of the lads who are fans were born in the early 1980's.

Anyone know of any good tiddley wink team. I would realy like to get involved with ultra competitive sport . Alternatively a mickey mouse team would also suffice. No pranksters and no time wasters please.

Ive kinda lost interest in Leeds United nowadays its hard to follow a team like them when there is only 1 or 2 games televised but things are looking hopeful for them this year if they can get premoted.

I know a lad who supports Coventry City.

Could you call Chelsea supporters real supporters? I know a few bandwagon supporters in my area

A few Watford supporters where I live as well as Derby, Leeds, Ipswitch and Hibs in Scotland. It probabily goes back to pre-premiership when teams from small towns could do well because it wasn't all about money then!
