Supporting unusual British teams

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

After reading that message from the Cardiff supporter. It got me started to wonder is there any other people on Hoganstand who support smaller clubs in Britian. I will start it off. I support Southampton. I may not have a club to support much longer but its been the only club i followed in England.

Are Everton a small club? And City? Spurs? Leeds? There are 4 or 5 Evertonians on here.

When Southampton beat Utd 6-3 was great but my favourite was the 3-1 victory at The Dell. It was 3-0 at half time and Utd changed their shirts at half time because they couldn't see each other in the grey shirts. Fergie at his best!!!!!!

Had a passing interest in Watford as a kid, I used to live in north London and would get the train to Vicarage Road once in a while to follow the Hornets

I have an avid interest in Grimsby, just saved hopefully from going out of the league, Rochdale and Crewe. The Crewe one is simply because they had the best manager EVER, for about 20 odd years.

the most supported english team in ireland is obviously liverpool, then comes united. then chelsea and arsenal

as for the small clubs. leeds cant really be defined as small but are in the 3rd tier. they still have a lot of support as they used to be good. everton and spurs, and sunderland are also well supported. then villa.

ive never come accross a charlton or borough supporter. the only two biggest teams that ive never seen anyone here follow.

i used to know a guy who supported crystal palace.

Haha Mossbags, Forest supporter here as well, I loved brian Clough he was hte main reason I stopped supporting Man U and switched to Forest at age 10. Unfortunately for me, Forest went downhill badly while Utd soared.

On a bright note, it looks like we might avoid relegation to league 1 this yr - fingers crossed!!!

I doubt that very much. United may well be the most supported team OUTSIDE England, but certainly not IN England.

Too many teams to choose from in London, that's the problem. A lot support the local side instead of United.

Now bar United and Liverpool fans, I boast that I can tell someone's approximate age by the team they support.

Most kids support the team that first registers on their consciousness. It usually registers because they are winning things and big in the media. They are usually about 8-10 when this happens.

So if you meat a Villa supporter. They won the league in 1981 and European Cup in 1982 so chances are the supporter was born around 1972-74.

You would be amazed at how often this simple rule works with Everton, Leeds, Villa, certainly Blackburn and teams like that.
