198872 Denman running at the weekend?

Yeah in the Aon Chase at Newbury provided the meeting goes ahead. Ruby rides on Saturday but can't see him ever getting off Kauto Star.

And someone mentioned a goal keeper called Schmeichel or something. Played for Man City right? About the 7th best City keeper I can remember.

And Cantona. I started watching soccer again when he was at Leeds because he looked wonderful in the dire English league. However I always knew he wouldn't make it internationally or in Europe, milk would turn quicker, but wonderful to watch in England. Bit like Henry come to think of it.

Ehhh should stick to the Gaa I reckon

I don't know that Ruby won't get off Kauto. He flew over recently to prep Denman, and he's due to ride him this weekend.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him on Denman at Cheltenham. I think we can read too much into jockey loyalty to horses - Ruby is most likely going to ride the horse with the best chance of winning the Gold Cup. He did that last year, except he chose the wrong horse! As I see it, there are only 2 things that might keep him on Kauto this year:
1) If Denman hasn;t recovered from injury;
2) If he doesn;t want to upset Clive Smith (owner of Masterminded).

Anyway, whichever Ruby rides, surely the more interesting question is 'who rides the other horse?' With Sam Thomas out in the cold, and AP doing such a good job for Smith on Masterminded recently, I wouldn't rule that out (providing McCoy isn't obligated to Jonjo O'Neill).

I believe Ruby will stick with Kauto. I would not underestimate the Smith connection. Despite all that if Ruby was certain that Denman would beat Kauto he would ride Denman. He has not got where he is by riding no-hopers.

Bert Trautman? Frank Swift?

Or did you think Cantona was worth a place on the French team ahead of Zidane, my dear PJ?

Just wondering.

It's a long time since someone called me Dear, Zidane the best player around in his day, and one of the best of all time. Cantona was a great player too, think he refused to play for France though

Newbury off, what now for Denman? Could he go to the Gold Cup without a run, probably not. But as the days go by and as this hard freeze continues, I'm coming more and more round to the idea that Kauto Star will become the first horse to regain the Gold Cup after losing it.

N.B. I'm guessing Denman will run at Wincanton next weekend with Ascot possibly in the reckoning.

Actually, they are after moving the Aon Chase to Kempton tomorrow so Denman will run there.

FAO Samin10:

Now may well be the best time to back Kauto Star. I suspect there is a fair chance Denman could get beat tomorrow. He is facing six rivals, five of which are no pushovers on his seasonal debut on a track which he is 100% sure to hate - right handed (they said he would only ever race left handed) and completely different to an undulating track like Cheltenham or Newbury. Add in the fact that he is still has a dodgy heart too and this time tomorrow Kauto Star may well only be 2/1. On the other hand he could come out and destroy his oppostion but I'm will to predict he won't.

Would agree with you Loyal on Kauto. 3s still available with a number of bookies. If necessary one could lay him later. Fitness of Denman not proven and it is difficult to come back. Just announced that Noland is out for rest of season.

Problem is if Denman gets through a couple of warm up runs nicely he will be hard to beat come cheltenham. Think i am going to go for Kauto all the same.

PJ, I refused to play for Ireland as well, whether I would have been selected however is open to doubt. France drew 6 matches 0-0 with Eric playing so they got shut of him. His PR team then invented something about a fall out with the manager.

Cantona was good in England, but limited elsewhere.

Zidane would fit my "great" category.

And what about Trautman, Swift, Corrigan et al? Now we have Given. City have always been blessed with good keepers, as they usually need them.
