Just got an e-mail from City informing me we have signed De Jong.

Should win the league the next five years on the trot.

It appears Kaka thought he was being asked to take a pay cut.

He earns £240,000 a week, and £7 million on sponsorship.

Gary Cook, City managing director, used to manage real super stars when he worked for NIKE, including the man himself, Michael Jordan. He was trying to explain that he could increase the sponsorship ten fold, but Kaka's father and advisor's couldn't grasp this. The wages were much the same, or perhaps even less.

On 1st January Milan had agreed to a £91 million fee. However the news was leaked, and this week the Milan director's were under siege, one had moved office, and seemed to bottle it as Cook said.

So it appears that Kaka's moral stance was perhaps less than that. And it appears that they were not offering wages of £500,000 a week.

This one could continue.

Well Patrique - you can hardly blame a man for staying put if they are not going to give him Stg£ 500,000 per week! Soccer is obscene. The money these guys are on is an absolute disgrace given what goes on in this crazy world of ours. I don't blame the players but somewhere along the line the plot has been completely lost. Similar to the scares about our banks, I think its very conceivable that if one or two clubs floundered in this recession - then there could be a massive domino effect as shareholders lose their nerve. It would not sadden me one bit. At least we have the GAA!

Unfortunetely Dellboy, we struggled to raise a gallop. Well beaten. Did not see the winner winning it again. Still in shock that he won it again. Newbay Prop run on fairly well but never looked like winning, same could be said for Emma Jane.

LOYAL2THEROYAL Just after watching highlights of that race winner won well but newbay prop was bunny jumping the whole way through and i feel if a horse does this jumping like that he loses couple of lengths per fence and dun doire never once rose a gallop .

Wigan have agreed a £5million fee with Reading for Stephen Hunt, would say Valencia will be leaving Wigan then. Good news anyway that he is back in the premiership.

Is Like Kelly the greatest ballad singer ever? I was watching his 'Raglan Road' version on Youtube and it would make the hairs stand on yer neck. I know Ronnie Drew has been, quite rightly, getting huge attention this past few months but in my mind Kelly is head and shoulders above anybody. Am I right to compare the two, both legends in their own right? I would recommend Drew's 'And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda' also on Youtube, superb stuff.
I would rather listen to Kelly played at the Tyrone Dublin match as opposed to watching the fireworks. I'm thankfull that Brush Shields won't be there though.

Luke Kelly was quite simply the best FOLK singer ever. A legend, who could interpret songs and deliver them in a way which would have brought a tear to a glass eye.

Ewan MacColl the great songwriter and one of the fathers of the folk revival, would have killed for Kelly's voice. In his early days in London Kelly would attend a folk writers gathering, and sing all of MacColl's great songs (Travelling People/Sweet Thames Flow Softly/ Shoals of Herring/ Dirty Old Town/ First time ever I saw your Face" while poor Ewan sat there with gritted teeth.

I saw Kelly many times, was even lucky enough to play with him at a party in Manchester, but memorably singing in the street in Ballybunion one night in 1969, and he was a friendly, down to earth man, willing to spend time with anyone. And a true socialist to boot.

Treat yourself to the Kelly DVD, you deserve it.

I do not post tips on here except when I am extremely confident and tomorrow will be one such day where I am very very confident. I will be quite surprised if FORPADYDEPLASTER gets beat at Leopardstown. The favourite Jayo has to be one of the most ridiculous prices of all time. I seen Forpadydeplaster win his second race at Navan and my immediate thought was this could be a Gold Cup horse. He will love the testing ground and he is a joy to watch jumping. He is coming back down in trip and appears to like the course. All in all, I am very confident.

Bit of a coincidence there milo! One of the lasses in work downloaded a load of stuff to my MP3 yesterday and I spent the journey home listening to the Dubliners. Friday evening - tired - but looking forward to the weekend, a few beers etc. and listening to Luke & Co was a great start. Just listening to the lyrics (some bawdy for the time!) and that voice! I think I posted on this way back on this thread - remember Patrique? Its not just the voice though - its the absolute living of the songs as they are delivered - the feeling, empathy, total immersion in the lyrics - Scorn Not His Simplicity is possibly the best example. And the socialist in Luke is so evident in his rendition of Joe Hill - pure class - and others. And the gravel in the voice would leave you expecting those in the front row to be sprayed with small stones. All are favourites - but I agree with Ollie on Song for Ireland - beautiful lyrics, great lilt, wonderful tune. No disrespect to Mr Coulter (and Ireland's Call) but I don't know why this song isn't used in some more prominent way in this country - either as an anthem or by Bord Failte. I love Ronnie's voice too - truly mischievous and perfect for the many 'rogue' songs! - but Luke is the King. I listen to anything from Guns'n'Roses to REM to Jackson Browne to Marvin Gaye to ABC to Niravana to U2 - but Luke is the most gifted voice I have ever heard. Treat yourself and buy the Luke Kelly Collection for your own collection.
