Hopkins never heard of Calzaghe until about 6 months ago.

I note Jeff Lacey got beat, again. Has he won any fights?

I am still speechless after Thomond Park last night. I mean i knoew it would be good, but that.......matched anything Croker could ever give us. I was in awe of everything. Amazing.

What a game of rugby last night. I think the commitment and never say die spirit showen by Munster last night is one of the reasons many GAA supporters identify with this team no matter who takes the field wearing the red jersey.

What a show of heart in thomond park last night players were out on their feet by the end of it all-blacks needed a few big guns to finish them off Warwick, Ronan, O'Driscoll, Sheahan, Mafia in fact everyone player in a munster jersey did themselves pround i know it's not much consilation. The crowd were amazing too.

Special mention for peter stringer in my view one of his best proformances in a munster jersey heart of a Lion really felt for him after the game you could see on his face how disappointed he was.

Could have done with a more of a home town ref but i suppose them's the brakes.

You are 100% wrong there Patrique, they had an agreement made four or five years ago and Hopkins pulled out when his bluff was called.

Lacy was beat by Jermain Taylor who is a fantastic boxer who beat Hopkins years ago. Suppose Hopkins was done then too?
Yes Lacy has won many fights including knocking Robin Reid down 5 times in as many rounds. (Robin Reid no great shake but seeing as you have brought him up earlier thought i would let you know what Lacy did to him)
For the record Calzaghe was the first to beat Lacy. Lacy was being touted as the next big thing. It took a fine boxer like Calzaghe to expose him and prove that he was not flawless.
Believe me the Americans knew who he was both before that fight over 3 years ago and certainly after it.

Luckyman Liamwalkinstown to have been there couldn't get a ticket not that i would have deserved one as i only go to about 4 or 5 munster matches a year the real fans should have got the tickets, someone i know got a ticket thinking that Brian O'Driscoll plays for munster.... that's just wrong.

As an Ulsterman working in Limerick with no interest in rugby, i have to say the performance of the Munster team last night would make any Irishman proud. Fully deserve all the plaudits given last night and today by the media.

Samin, Lacey was being touted as the next big thing, just like Amir Khan and Bernard Dunne?

Boxing by the way is more or less dead. With about 6 world champions at every weight, it is too easy to make loads of money, become famous, win 46 fights, without facing anyone of note.

So basically what you are saying is there is no good boxers out there because there are other people in the same weight with world titles, Jeff Lacy was a world champion, Calzaghe took his belt, Kessler had two belts, Calzaghe took both. Do you want him to go into Marks and Spencers and steal all theres too?

You talk about Hopkins and Jones in their earlier days, Jones is just over two years older than Calzaghe, Calzaghe destroyed him. Jermaine Taylor beat Hopkins twice, Jeff Lacy took Taylor the distance. Kelly Pavlik who you think is no good because Hopkins beat him beat Taylor twice.

Basically all these guys who are supposedly done are still capable of beating each other. Only one man who has fought against them remains undefeated, lets face it Calzaghe is no spring chicken either.

He is regarded as a great by other greats, people who know a lot more about boxing than either of us, so thats good enough for me.

Yes Jeff Lacy is the same as Bernard Dunne and Amir Kahn, Jeff Lacy was a world champion who fought against the best the division had to offer and took both them the distance. Bernard Dunne and Amir Kahn both got knocked out in first round as soon as they stepped up in class. Jeff Lacy was a world famous name, neither of the above were. Keep coming out with comparisons like that and you will just make yourself look foolish.

Samin, there are very few people who know more about boxing than me!

A few points, I rate Pavlik, I believe he would do Joe in one round, as he has a penchant for getting decked in the first. Pavlik lost to Hopkins, as did Joe, according to his da and most of the other people who might know more than me.

Jeff Lacey was a world champion. So was Eamon Loughran, the 3rd best in Ballymena at his weight at the time. In short, these people are built;t up to sell tickets.

Khan and Dunne lost when they stepped up in class. So did Prince Hamed, but he was already acclaimed as a "great" before he actually fought anyone. Eddie Futch reckoned Hamed "lacked the basics to be a boxer" but at that stage he was a world champion and had about 10 defences.

Jones was brilliant, an all time great. However his career finished in 2003 when he was twice poleaxed by people who wouldn't have lived with him. Somehow, 5 years later, he gets a fight against Calzaghe? Mind you, neither of them are world champions. The fight was for the "Ring Magazine" title. I am due to fight Hatton for the "Hogan Stand" title soon.

Now granted, Calzaghe fought Lacey who I don't rate, and Kessler who is OK is a Steve Collins type of way. These people won their titles after someone retired.

Ottke.
