seanie - hard to get worked up at the moment. Thought we were poor on Sat and I dunno what game the panellists and commentators were looking at but it wasn't the one I was looking at. They are either afraid to criticise Trap or are building him for a fall - hard to know which. Think we'll be lucky to get a draw tonight and anyone who thinks we'll win handy in Cyprus and that the last time was a blip needs their head examined. Cyprus are the new Turkey! Don't rate Kilbane but he was superb (and brave on Sat), O'Shea is an accident (yet another one) waiting to happen. McGeady was poor and Trap bringing on McShane was worrying. Keane is back flapping his arms. All in all hard to get hopeful I think. 3rd or 4th in the Group is my honest expectation I'm afraid - players just aren't there. Hope I'm wrong.

Never been there before Jayo. Had a look at the entries and there a few good horses involved, but with the rain that fell lately, you're probably right - will be impossible to pick winners. Unfortunetely I won't be in attendance though.

Good draw for our lads tonight against the Czechs.

Well I don't know... I have been more than impressed with the lads... A well deserved point tonight, and probably should have had a pen.

We were very very tight at the back. Whelan was superb again. This is a team progressing... McGeady a bit light unfortunately... But still very capable of putting in a cross...

4 points from two dirty away games... Take it and run!!!

England must be nailed on certaintys now for the World Cup. Surely............
Well impressed with Ireland last night. Great to see JOS playing so well. So long as I never see McFault at centre back in a green shirt again! McGeady is class and so young. He is gonna be a star. But I pray to god he gets outa Glasgow, playing there will do him and his talent no favours whatsoever.
Hunt is.....Kilbane 4 years ago :(
But overall I was well impressed.

Ya Liam I agree McGeady had a good match. Thank God for Given though. Surprised at John O' Shea, maybe Ferguson will take note of Robbie Keane's comments now and he might start for ManUre. I think though that Steven Reid is the player that makes us tick. I think he's class. I thought Keane and Doyle were palying too deep and wide at times, we'd often make a break and would then have to slow up so that there'd be some support. But overall, a good performance.

The difference a good manager makes
Solid down the middle has been the biggest improvement in the last 2 games
Are these Glenn Whelan performances once off or is he that good?

good stuff, 4 points lads..! a win against cyprus at home next and expectation will build. 3inarow tho, u mention sheasey starting for man u?! only if theyre stuck.. anytime i see him for them , hes the only one that looks out of place. this was further emphasized when i watched him in the live game versus portsmouth there not so long ago..rediculous! anyway, he'll be starting for irel.. always has me panicking. and yes jayoclux.. keep mcshame away from our goal..hazard!

strange with no subs, especially after the same team playing sat gone by, and 30 degree heat.
pay back time for the cypriots!!! oh the humiliation..

Please somebody tell me I am not reading this right now. McGeady good????? Please Snufulafugas, bring back that best quotes thread till we add this in. One wonders how poor the SPL is when you see the like of McGeady playing. I have to close my eyes when he gets the ball. Hunt was equally as bad. He's a tryer, I'll give that but look I'm a trier and I'm not playing for Ireland. Defence played well but we were playing Montenegro, not Holland. This notion that Trappatoni is going to work wonders is laughable. Players are useless, Trap will only do so much, we are going nowhere fast, the sooner everyone gets that into their head the better.

its all about qualifying for the world cup, to get on the big stage again and give the country a bit of a buzz.
my fellow royal, you don't think this is realistic at all do you loyal??
it clearly is.

Just remember that 90% of these fellows are players that could not get a place on the English A or Scottish teams.
You would not have heard of them in an Ireland shirt if they would have got a place on the English team.
It is terrible to hear so called Ireland players with a strong English accent

Did I say McGeady is a good player??? No! Did I say he had a good match??? Yes!

Stick that in your best quotes thread.

Ever the optimist Loyal!!
We are never going to be the best team in the world and we're never going to be contenders for big tournaments - so what. We've always had a limited number of players to choose from so we've got to make best with what we have
Its all about going out there and giving it your all, its early days for Trappatoni, things could get worse, things could get better. Who knows, the main thing is that the performances so far have been very good and big improvement from where Staunton left us.

Which McGeady are you talking about? I'm on about Aidan - the one who played useless last night, the one who always plays useless, the one is an embarrassing at times to watch.

Anyone else think Stephen Hunt is only good for Ireland as an impact player?? I think he's an awful frustrating player. He gives his absolute all but the amount of times he loses the ball is unreal, his set pieces were rank rotten last nite and i cant mind the last time he put in a decent cross!!

Tomsmith ure as intellingent as ever! Every single player last night bar 3 was Irish born! Kilbane, McGeady and Reid being the exceptions. U think McGeady wouldnt make the scottish team!!! Kilbane is as Irish as Slow Sets in a nightclub, and Reid...well I dont care what his motives, I am delighted to have him!

Liam...town said "Hunt is.....Kilbane 4 years ago" have to say that sentence tells the story where Ireland are at the moment. All heart but no quality overall. We could and should have pushed on for a winner. The excuse that Hunt is a workhorse is one that would make me tear my hair out. Christ if i gave the ball away that much with my local gaa team i would have the crowd baying for my blood and have got the curly finger long before half time and a kick up the arse before i could sit on the dugout! By the way Liam u aren't sugggesting that Kilbane has got better in the last 4 years???! bad enough I had to watch him playing for ireland but to see him in an everton shirt nearly got me to follow cricket instead

Also I know it England but they played damn well last night.
fair play to Walcott 3 class finishes, Mcgeady would want to have a look at his 1st 2 goals!
Rooney and heskey played well together.
Hopefully England qualify for world cup always adds a good bit of spice when they qualify and "ODDS ON" to win it everytime but fail!!!
