Favourite for many would be Stefan White but best is a toss up between Gerry "flogger" Farrell one of the best goalkeepers in the game ever or Danny Nugent. Danny was the closest we ever got to an All-Star and a gentleman too just like flogger. Real Louth fan (Louth) - Posts: 3157 - 17/04/2009 16:53:52 260602 Link 0 |

jailhouse.usa, did you know Seán purcell was equalled by tyrones Iggy Jones, two great players of their generation, Iggy Jones won the hogan cup against Seán Purcell, St. Pats won by a point Iggy jones scoring 3-4 and Galway Just about beat tyrone by 0-8 to 0-6 in the mid 50s. hes been described as the greatest colleges player to play, but he obviously doesnt get the acclaim he deserved... From the old school, I would have to say Joe Irwin, Mr Dependable. GAA's answer to Denis Irwin. The Drumsurn legend, who never sought the limelight but 'what a hell of a player!' He had the opposing forwards running scared with his imposing desire to be first to the ball (a pre Francie Bellew, if you will). And Boy could he take a free kick!! Joe Canning. Even at this young age he is a proven winner at every level except seniors. I believe it's just a matter of time before Galway get back to their glory days in Hurling. pwalsh67 (Galway) - Posts: 100 - 18/04/2009 02:35:57 261217 Link 0 |

Iggy Jones was one of those who helped tyrone win their first ulster title. HokeyPokey (Tyrone) - Posts: 1744 - 18/04/2009 11:51:09 261286 Link 0 |

Purcell had huge respect for Jones, to the extent that he traveled up to Dungannon for Iggy's funeral. Before Canavan, Jones was acknowledged throughout Tyrone as our greatest ever footballer. The only other 2 who could be considered in the same debate as those 2 were Eugene McKenna and Frank McGuigan. Thomas Clarke (Tyrone) - Posts: 1002 - 18/04/2009 14:12:58 261396 Link 0 |
