Went to BALLELA V NEWRY last night, have to say shame on you Newry, Ballela only had 13 players but Newry played 15 and would not play 13. Ballela did get other player for second half and out scored Newry big time in the second half. I think final score was NEWRY 6-11 BALLELA 1-22

NONSENSE

There is always 2 sides to a storey.
FACTS
The Shamrock's manager was not asked to field 13 players.
Ballela started the game with 13, finished the first half with 14 and started the second half with 15.
Shamrocks were ahead at half time by 8 points and won by 8 points.
Two years ago Ballela played 15 against the Shamrocks 13 for the whole match.
I was at the match and the Ballela players were arriving in dribs and drabs up to 7:30, to me its a case of apathy and laziness on Ballelas' behalf.

Oneside

Check the scores on the Down GAA web site and then post who should go to Specsavers.

Would love to find out why people on this site have a major gripe against Newry Shamrocks?
Was at the match last night and as heard umpire for Ballela say we have a gentlemans agreement with the County board, so what, if you dont inform a team what are you supposed to do.

Think both managers need to agree to play the lower number players and if there is previous between the clubs on this matter it obviously wont happen - seen it happen in reserve 3rds football although not often !

Ultimately it aint the fault of the Shamrocks if Bellela can't line out for senior game.

FACTS

A team may commence a game with 13 players but shall have fielded 15 players, inclusive of players ordered off or retired inured, by the start of the 2nd half. In the event of failure to comply with this, the game shall continue.

Lads, if BOTH sets of managers agree to play 13 a-side due to one player having only 13 players, they may do so BUT if one manager disagrees then he is PERFECTLY entitled to put 15 out on the field. This, of course, happens on a rare occasion BUT there is nothing wrong, according to the LAWS of the game, with what he is doing.

Mole am not a hundred percent sure on the rules regarding adult hurling, but in juvenile league hurling if a team turns up with 13 players or even just 11 you have to play the same number.

Last nights result

ACHL Div1
Ballygalget 5-30 0-6 Castlewellan (Down website says 3-13 to 0-6 but lead to believe this is wrong)

barrack to be perfectly honest i dont think it matters as the town will probably get relegated this year on points and not points difference

It was 5.35 to 0.6 points but fair play to Castlewellan, they had a lot of players missing but they still turned out and fulfilled the fixture unlike clubs like Newry who seem to be allergic to the ferry boat and who never should have been allowed to drop down a division

Yeah they've been hit hard with injuries and players leaving, a lot of their team is very young and I'm sure the Div 1 experience is gonna help them in the future. Just short of the level for Div1 this season. Who's gonna get promoted this year from Div2? A month or so ago it looked like it was gonna be either Ballyvarley or Ballela but now its between Clonduff and Shamrocks, gonna be interesting

Yeah Barrack but i think Clonduff and Newry should have been in division one this year, which makes me think we should maybe lump everyone into just one league next season

That wouldn't be a bad idea, 13 teams, and sure why not. The football leagues are gonna be expanded when 4 divisions become 3 next season meaning larger leagues. Another benefit is that all clubs will have the chance every week to progress themselves against tougher opposition. The likes of Ballyvarley and Castlewellan only have this experience recently with their seasons in Div1 but every club will be able to with one league. It'll mean some weeks there'll be two games in the one week, but sure a match is better than training. My only worry is the neglect of fixtures that have been postponed, there's a rake of outstanding fixtures in both Divisions that haven't been refixed, I thought the rule was if the match wasn't played then both clubs had a week to get it played?

I think the Down leagues should run like the Antrim ones. Football one week, hurling the next through the whole season. Just my opinion.

barrack
i think u know yourself that, that 7 day rule was never going to work, in my opinion they should do something simular with the ulster (tain) league and fine teams who dont show and did not warn the ref/board

as regards 1 division people, i mentioned this at the start of the season before the fixtures where announced - brilliant idea as would help bring down hurling on in the long term but we have to expect the unexpected in the short term
