Unlucky for Ports and Crans to play a pitch that's a 100 mile round trip! Haha good to see some fixtures finally didn't take very long! Also good to see Ports and Crans fielding thirds squads in these tight times, fair play to them. Doesn't look like that Downpatrick/Darragh Cross team isn't going ahead?? Only 7 clubs in Div 1 so Warrenpoint receive the first bye, I reckon Warrenpoint will give the Ards their biggest challenge in that league judging by their recent form, Liatriom, Castlewellan and Kilclief will battle it out near the bottom end, though all these teams are capable of shocks. Division 2 will be a lot tighter however, every side are capable of beating each other, though I think Shamrocks could sneak it to the top, any predictions??

Who does everyone think will do well in league/c'ship this year?

Well everyone except the Ards are in the JHC, itll be tough to call, you can expect the Div 1 teams to have a better chance but depends how the draw ends up, but everyone has a good chance. The Ards will battle for the top in Div 1 with their closest challengers Warrenpoint in my opinion as they have been very solid as of late. Kilclief, Castlewellan and Liatroim can cause upsets too, but I reckon they wont derail the Ards. Div 2 is gonna be a lot tighter with every team capable of beating each other there. Hard to judge Liatroim, Ballela, Ballyvarley and Bredagh as they haven't been in the Ulster league this season

Agree w'point have a good chance of winning ulster league look to have a young fit team, think kilclief will do ok after winning championship last year and think castlewellan will be lucky to win a game, have a feeling they'll be the same as ballyvarley when they made the step up, just won't be good enough

cwellan are a poor side , i wouldnt expect them to do anything this year. Always have the feeling that in time the stick work of the bredagh and carryduff lads will be the decider between them and the other mainland teams.

Carryduff and Bredagh will have a lot of work to do to improve their league standings from last year, gonna be very tough for them considering Clonduff and Shamrocks recent form, and Ballyvarley and Ballela will give any team a game, I'd be surprised if Carryduff or Bredagh challenge at the top. Wouldn't say Castlewellan are a poor side but it'll be a big step up for them in Div 1, they done well last year pipping Clonduff to get out of Div 2, and they also beat the Ards sides a few times. Between them and Kilclief it'll be hard to judge as Kilclief have so many dual players and their footballers got promoted and for such a small club it'll be tough for them too, but they are no means not capable of winning any game they play. There's not many hurlers in Castlewellan that play football so thatll always help their development. Both teams are level on points in the Ulster league and have yet to play each other so there's an upcoming indicator. Harder to judge Liatroim, they've lost so many players to emigration and not sure what impact they'll make. Warrenpoint definitely the team to watch, some impressive results as of late

Warrenpoint are without a shadow of a doubt the best team outside the ards and could run Ballycran close in Div 1.

Castlewellan will surprise a few at home but will always struggle away on the ards agin the ards "reserves".

Shamrocks could win Div 2 if they start well. Ballela will struggle to field but have a good team when they get them out. Clonduff are the up and coming team in this Division an if they dont win it this year they will next year.

Bredagh & Carryduff will remain stuck at the bottom. Bredagh could barely field last year and had to play the 2 league match v the town as a double header. Carryduff have 2 many young lads doin exams an by the time they come back the leagues lost.

Prediction
Ballycran to win Div 1 The Point runners up, Liatroim going down

Ports to win Div 2 Shamrocks runners up

It's virtually impossible to predict the outcome of the leagues and championships this year I feel. Every team has been impacted by emmigration and whilst we've started our season well all it takes is for a few players to leave for us to be brought crashing back to earth. Certainly don't think we'll be running Ballycran close as they beat us easily last year home and away. Likewise reportedly [on this website] teams like Liatriom and Ballela are struggling big time with numbers but with a few players coming back late summer they could aim for the Championship. As mentioned previously Bredagh are playing in Antrim Division 3 and will be looking to improve on last year so rightly should be favourites for the Championship, presuming they drop down from the Senior Championship?
I think Castlewellan will do better than most people think, they are a sound physical team. They'll probably be exposed stick-work wise against the Ards teams but they've nothing to fear in Kilclief, Liatriom and Warrenpoint.
Division 2 will be very competitive I feel with teams taking points off each-other. Carryduff should push on now with good stream of young players coming through. You would imagine Ballela and Shamrocks would be favourites along with the Ards but again, with such uncertaintly over panels going forward the leagues could be very distorted from what people think they should be on paper. Ballyvarley and Clonduff should be ok too and are always going to get results. Not sure on Bredagh seconds or the Ards Thirds teams remaining.
What shape are the Ards teams in, surely they've been hit with players departing and will concentrate on staying in Antrim Division one above all other competitions?
Whatever happens, lets hope we can build on last years ALMOST completed leagues and we aren't having to see teams not field due to lack of numbers. Good luck anyway.

Side-Note. It's been mentioned a lot in the other forum about Down county team struggling and not being helped by "choosing" to play in Newry. I thought this has been said time and time again that they HAVE to play in a County approved ground and this was a new Regulation brought in by Croke Park? If I'm incorrect fair enough but if this is correct then it's a mute point talking about how well the team would play in Ballycran or wherever. We have to accept that whilst best players reside in the Ards the matches HAVE to be played in Newry?!

Youre clearing having a laugh , ports will obviously get a few points

Ards are gonna struggle anyways , we will occupy the lower reaches of the league to be honest.
Ballygalget will be interesting , minus magic.

Also the ards 2nds and 3rds are going to be poor enough , considering weve been hit with the afforementioned problems.
