Big match in Clonduff tonight! If Ports win its all over. We'll be sending a strong squad so.

you may send some of those Div2 medals out to club Ballygalget who've played along with you on this one and moved the Div1 game to tuesday night even after their Div2 game with Bredagh was cancelled.

Howd matches go last night?

Some results from last night's games

Div 1: Shamrocks 3-9 1-15 Ballela
Kilclief 5-10 3-16 Ballycran

Div 2: Ballycran 3-10 1-6 Ballyvarley
Carryduff 1-5 1-19 Castlewellan

Ballycran drop their first points in an already wrapped up Division 1 after a great contest against a battling Kilclief. Shamrocks and Ballela also ended up even at full-time in the relegation battle, with only points difference swinging in favour of Ballela

Division 2 much tighter with only 4 points separating the top 5. Looks like itll go between Ports and the Cran. Bredagh have struggled with numbers this campaign and will be lucky to get 2 points on board. Castlewellan won by 14 points against their JHC final opponents Carryduff, although both teams were missing key men.

Division 1 fixtures look like they will be finished, cant say the same for Division 2 though for some unknown reason. Also fixtures from last night haven't been updated on the Down website yet, while the fixtures that were put up were done so within half an hour of the full-time whistle! Bit of enthusiasm would be great!

looks as if there were some very good games last night! went up to see shamrocks and ballela last night not a bad match, but ballela were the much better team alot fitter and they took some great points were as shamrocks bull there way to scores!! was told that was shamrocks down to div 2??? think if both these teams have had there full squads out this year they would not be at the bottom of div 1

Ports beat Clonduff at a canter last night so they are still 6 ahead.

Nobody relegated because nobody will be promoted. Portaferry will win the league and can't be promoted.

that is the problem with down hurling if no one gets promoted, i think clonduff deserve a chance in div 1, but if we come away from that view i think we should take the 3 ards teams out of the down leagues and have 1 big division that consists of
Ballycran - 1 team
Ballygalget - 1 team
Bredagh
Ballyvarley
Ballela
Carryduff
Clonduff
Castlewellan
Kilclief
Liatroim
Portaferry - 1 team
Shamrocks
and Warrenpoint

reply to your question regarding shamrocks/ballela if the 2 of them were the same who would go down??? shamrocks would as ballela have beat them and have also drew with them.
Shamrocks and ballela would be far 2 strong for div2 and i would say both of them would not want to go down, both these teams have been short of there best playes all season with a full panel in div1 they would most likely beat most teams in it

well said Carryduff Abu. Only need for one league in Down if theres only 13 clubs. The clubs in Division 2 that have been improving steadily will get a crack at the Ards 2nds, Liatroim, Kilclief etc, and can only improve hurling in Down overall. It would also stop the clash of the two Ards teams playing in the same night, as well as refs having to do 2 matches. If people argue against on the basis of a massive fixture backlog, how about have some matches on a Thursday night as well as a Monday? With 13 teams you have a potential 6 games on an evening, with one team having a bye. All these relegation/promotion issues would be cast aside and only tighten the competition up throughout the county. If smaller teams are worried about getting a hammering from the Ards 2nds teams, then you can only work to improve and prevent this!!?

Taken from Co bye laws 2011.
COUNTY COMPETITION RULES RIALACHA NA gCOMÓRTAS
(g) The top non-Ards team in Division 2 of the Hurling League will be promoted for the following year. The bottom non-Ards team
in Division 1 of the Hurling League will be relegated for the following year.
hope this clears it all up for you if clonduff decide to go up the rule says they can decision with Clonduff. No call for one big unmanagable league just get rid of the imaginary Ards thirds. and play three rounds in Div 2 Five teams four matches a week by three equals twelve games. almost similar too what we get now. And promotion and relegation between both divisions.Simples.

Having the div 2 games none of the teams would be compeditive in div 1 after some serious beatings intrest would dip keep the leagues compeditive put up the next team in div2 if winners r from the ards with bottom team in div 1 going down if there is no relegation r promotion it would be pointless

After some serious beatings you are having a laugh div 2 teams would be as competative as the above .and incase you think the whoopings restricted to the south down teams ,Ballygalget got their reward for helping Ports to Div 2 title

Tankings? Right look at the cwellan result when we had a named 3rds full strength panel at the start of the year , a tanking. The not even a full 2nds cran team out and they completely destroy ballela.

Also a rabble of players gathered up still beats bvarley and still beats cduff away. Only saying that if youre talking yourselves up , remember who youre playing against. The worst of the ards. The worst. Remember that. Dont give the old " oh they play 2nds in the 3rds league.......balls, we struggle for numbers and still scrape two sides out , think its been a case of a 15 in each a few times this year. However the pferry thing gets me annoyed you cant knock em for changing fixtures to suit. They can work the system. You cant beat a named 3rds panel and the fixture setup of 2 teams on the 1 night only papers over the cracks.

Now now Down and Out,sour grapes me thinks.I agree that the non ards teams in div3 would be way out of their depth
if they were to play any of the ards 3 2nds team, waste of time for both clubs. Was talking to a port this week and he told
me that only 4 of the players they had on mon night against Clonduff would play any part in a 2nds match, and they still only had 18
players and that was with no 2nds match on.And if my memory serves me correct all 3 ards clubs refixtured matches this year to try
and bolster both teams, remember Ports can only move matches if the other club agrees so who really is to blame.

Read the team sheets. The 3rds are all older lads who hurlered well in their day. Div 2 teams still can't beat them!

When Newry & Bredagh got promoted they won Div 2 fair and square. If Castlewellan or Conduff win the league put them up.

sour grapes , what planet are you on?

Dont write things like the south teams are improving because they beat bcran or the likes , these teams are a woeful representation of the clubs most of the time, they are near always a rabble.

Also seannie og , well said on that point.
