Portaferry won handy enough. That's us back on top of the league by a point. Liatroim have a game in hand. Seannie Og (Down) - Posts: 952 - 12/10/2009 08:29:21 451550 Link 0 |
is there any truth that the county board told the clubs if they are to finish the league they must sort it out themselves?? ianog (Down) - Posts: 416 - 12/10/2009 15:52:33 451918 Link 0 |
How many teams are relegated from the Antrim Div 1 league? Portaferry, Ballygalget, and Ballycastle are all still in trouble but, St. John's looks favorites to go down. Is it only one team that goes down? mournegael (Down) - Posts: 156 - 12/10/2009 16:26:17 451970 Link 0 |

is there any truth that the county board told the clubs if they are to finish the league they must sort it out themselves?? Nothing like passing the buck to hide your own ineptitude. Ballygalget still have Liatroim x2, Shamrocks x2 ( I think we might have got the points for 1 of them but who knows!!), Ports x1 and Ballycran x1 in Div1 and its now the middle of October. There's hardly going to be 6 available weekends not including the Joe McCrickard and whatever football games thrown in as well. As for the Antrim leagues, I think the Johnnies have two, possibly three games to go with one away to Ballycastle who've still something to play for and the other two being Cushendall and Dunloy who might top it (not that it'll matter a whole pile to them) so its hard to see them getting out of it but the Ports would probably want to pick up another point or two to make sure. The fixtures secretary has been left with his hands tied again, the main problem is with clubs who refuse to play games at a drop of a hat(some of the excuses i have heard are - boys away for weekend, so what, that happens every week in every club). On a personal note, several lads in my club played three senior football games and one senior hurling game in eight days last week, not ideal - but we are always committed to fielding. Dock the points unless there is a valid reason for postponement - We'll have the same problem year on year unless clubs are held accountable. thurles84 (Down) - Posts: 19 - 13/10/2009 12:55:25 452901 Link 0 |
Wullie explain i asked a simple question there seems to be plenty of football fixtures in the paper,if its true its a total disgrace but nothing would suprise me with this county really is a joke ianog (Down) - Posts: 416 - 13/10/2009 15:25:52 453100 Link 0 |
I don't think these fixtures should have been a surprise to anyone and I'm talking about the football league ones, so why would the likes of a club need to play three football fixtures in the one week as thurles has suggested. Apart from a bit of bad weather the footballers didn't exactly have an extended championship run so they should have been well planned in advance. Like it or not the hurling fixtures will be fitted around the football ones and the South Down hurlers, senior hurlers or minor hurlers didn't have long years either so why this congestion now in October and it can only be down to rank bad planning. As for clubs not willing to fulfill at the drop of a hat, well if its at the drop of a hat then there's no planning yet again, however if suitable notice is given like a master fixture list clubs should fulfill or forfeit the points even if they have another fixture in Antrim or reserve football, etc, etc. It's happened already to some clubs this year so why should other clubs be treated more leniently? Did i see somewhere that Ballyvarley and Ballycran thirds were cancelled at the weekend?? Wullie Mageean (None) - Posts: 211 - 13/10/2009 16:11:15 453153 Link 0 |
Master fixtures were sent out at the start of the year and the league should have been finished in mid sept. Shamrocks are the worst of the lot for not fielding and puttin games off. Liatroim refuse to play a hurling match in the same week as football! Seannie Og (Down) - Posts: 952 - 13/10/2009 17:30:04 453266 Link 0 |
Ballyvarley v Ballycran in Betsy Gray to be played this Sunday at 1.00pm in Darragh Cross. It is certainly difficult to get a team especially as some of our players will have football on the same day for various clubs. However lets get on with it. It is best to get all games played asap. martythered (Down) - Posts: 26 - 15/10/2009 10:02:07 455086 Link 0 |
