This is something I dont really understand. As a meath man I can only imagine myself supporting Leinster so why do so many support Munster. Is it bandwagoning or are they easily swayed by all the D4 nonsense that Leinster gets tagged with. I'm ofter asked why I support Leinster and why i dont support Munster and only get a funny look when I give the obvious answer 'Its where I'm from'. I'm told I should support Munster because Leinster is allegedly a Dublin only privalige but I then ask why shouldn't i support Ulster seen as its closer to my home but again only get a funny look. Quick question who do these Munster fans from Leinster support in the GAA Inter-pros? trimmer (Meath) - Posts: 558 - 07/04/2009 15:40:04 250958 Link 0 |
Great topic and your right they jump to munster because there winning instead of sticking to there own team. Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 07/04/2009 16:31:16 251049 Link 0 |
Yeah. I know ones from Leinster at university and they all support Munster. But as you say, is it only a dublin thing to support Leinster? The ones I know arent from Dublin so aybe your right. Poor reason though. Plastic Paddy (Tyrone) - Posts: 664 - 07/04/2009 16:35:06 251054 Link 0 |
rugby in leinster is more class based and snobbish where as down in limerick its the game of the common man and all inclusive. theres a bit of arrogance that goes with leinster rugby i think. jaffacake (Meath) - Posts: 720 - 07/04/2009 16:52:03 251075 Link 0 |
I think its a glory hunting thing myself, we have a similar situation here in Connaught, a lot of folk supporting Munster and we havent the excuses that guys in Ulster and Leinster have for supporting them paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 07/04/2009 17:01:14 251088 Link 0 |

Its odd behaviour alright, not as strange as seeing people going around wearing an english or scottish soccer team jersey. bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4664 - 07/04/2009 20:42:06 251305 Link 0 |

As a Leinster supporter from Wexford town I have friends who believe it or not support Munster and own Thomond Park season tickets,I always get the same answer everytime, Munster are a middle class team, or Leinster are a pack of D4 pretty boys or Munster are just a way better and more entertaining team pick any of those options, these people are still loyal Wexford football & hurling supporters and still make the trip to Croke Poark to see Wexford's quest for either the Bob O'Keefe or Delaney Cup !!! I know two people from Cavan who live in Galway and they support Munster and go down to Limerick regularly to games. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12484 - 09/04/2009 10:19:52 252857 Link 0 |
I think a lot of it is perception. The Munster lads come across as very approachable lads, for the people type players. The Leinster players do have a stigma of arrogance attached to them that makes it hard for them to like. I'm a Leinster fan through and through but will always support Munster when not playing Leinster. The main reason would be the 2006 semi-final, was in amongst all the Leinster fans and a few of us were trying to get a bit of singing going, get behind the side. The vast majority of the Leinster "fans" around us just looked down their noses as if we were some sort of uncouth hooligans (not too far from the mark!). Then the Munster crowd start singing Fields of Athenry and it was an amazing feeling, they create such an electric atmoshere it is hard not to like them. To support Leinster is almost seen as being posh as they have associations with D4 and the likes! But to support Munster is seen as the average joes team,no offence intended to those who support Munster but personally I support Leinster as thats where I'm from-I'm not going to change team just because Munster are winning Heineken Cups dubinlaois (Dublin) - Posts: 304 - 10/04/2009 19:49:54 254405 Link 0 |
people can say its leinster rugby is dublin d4 only etc but really its because munster are winning. you dont support a provence the same way as your county. it dosnt mean the same thing so its easier to jump on the munster bandwagon. 32_4_1 (Meath) - Posts: 4202 - 10/04/2009 23:16:27 254600 Link 0 |
i think ts farcical. You cant choose the county you support, so why should it different for a province. If that was the case there would be loads of Westmeath Fans in Meath!!. JuanVeron (Westmeath) - Posts: 1866 - 11/04/2009 20:20:58 254969 Link 0 |
