Now this is a topic i feel we should talk about . Fans booing players taking frees or when a certain player touches the ball,it is too much soccer style play. Also fans booing teams off and i have seen this even with my own county a few weeks back against kerry. I have seen fans booing their own team off-- is this right . I feel it is wrong and a shame it is getting worse in the gaa . Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 07/04/2009 00:10:54 250334 Link 0 |
Worst I've seen was a few years ago in McKenna Cup. Donegal against Tyrone in Omagh. 17 year old Michael Murphy came on as a sub for his first game for Donegal Seniors. He was booed by most of the Tyrone "supporters" in the stand when he would take a free. Really changed my opinion of Tyrone people. donegal_insider (Donegal) - Posts: 584 - 07/04/2009 00:22:41 250347 Link 0 |
It is getting worse. It only started a few years back. First time i heard it was in Croke Park was a dublin/tyrone game, when Dublin fans on the hill started booing at either Mulligan/Stephen O'Neill(whoever was taking frees in front of the hill). Then in AI Final '05 any time gooch got the ball tyrone fans on the hill booed him. It is getting too much like soccer. Plastic Paddy (Tyrone) - Posts: 664 - 07/04/2009 00:24:21 250351 Link 0 |
Its as compulsery as havin the flask for the away games these days!Gerraghty used get a fierce amount off the dubs! keep_the_faith (Meath) - Posts: 400 - 07/04/2009 00:26:26 250356 Link 0 |
It's terrible. Stephen Kenny had to tell the Derry City fans off for booing one of their own players on Friday night and the GAA is going the same way. Unfortunately you will always have fickle supporters in all sports. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9818 - 07/04/2009 00:28:06 250357 Link 0 |
You've got to be kidding. How is there outrage to booing?? That is ludicrous. Fans boo, we are playing competitive games and fans can boo!!! It simply adds atmosphere to the games. It is totally ridiculous to bad-mouth fans for booing. These are competitive games, not lawn bowls!!!! If you have a problem with booing, get out of watching competitive sporting contests and take up knitting!!! jono52795 (UK) - Posts: 12 - 07/04/2009 03:10:59 250399 Link 0 |
There was a gang of kids from a club who started boohing when Clare came out last Sunday but whoever was with them obviously had a word with them and that was the end of it! It is a terrible habit and one that the kids probably picked up from the TV. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 07/04/2009 08:49:22 250422 Link 0 |
plastic paddy its been going on for alot longer than that. I certainly remember it back to the early 80's, im sure it happened before that too. I dont agree with it myself but i dont think its a big deal bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4649 - 07/04/2009 09:09:50 250440 Link 0 |
The thing about this is, the GAA would never be prepared to take the ultimate step to get rid of this behaviour from our games for once and for all. I mean, can you really see them kicking the dubs out of the championship? whiterbannnas (Mayo) - Posts: 2441 - 07/04/2009 09:55:44 250476 Link 0 |
its a brutal thing to have in our national games. we should be proud of our national organisation and not boo other players and countys after all they are playing our national sports. GAA fans should not copy english soccer fans and boo opposing players and teams. its wrong! ThomasClarke1 (Tyrone) - Posts: 392 - 07/04/2009 10:03:16 250481 Link 0 |
Whiterbanannas there's not too many supporters who will stay to the end and applaud the opposition off the field after an almighty hammering as Hill 16 did last August for Tyrone. There would have been no Mayo supporters left of course given your usual propensity for leaving after half time when things are looking bad. Boohing is certainly not new or confined to Dublin. I remember my father telling me about the reception Dubs teams got in certain places in the 50s including one time being pelted with stones! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 07/04/2009 10:09:08 250487 Link 0 |
Its not up to the G.A.A. to put manners on people booing. This should be done by parents when bringing up their children. My father would have given me a stare that would make me shut up immediately if i had being doing this as a child. Manners begin at home. What you put in when they are young comes out later !! Brolly, I know. You can see where i'm coming from. You know that not all Donegal supporters are like that, same as I know not all Tyrone supporters are like that, but you just look at them and all you can think is 'you're nothing but s**m'. You meet a few after the game and have the craic, but a month later when you see them on t.v, you can't help thinking 'I hope yous get absolutely hammered yous stuck up, ignorant, wide-cheering, player-booing *******'. At least that's how I feel. donegal_insider (Donegal) - Posts: 584 - 07/04/2009 10:42:35 250528 Link 0 |

During the minor Leinster final last year, it was in Croke Park before the senior final was on. A Meath player was taking a free up into the hill and the Dubs that were there for the next match started booing him. Royal_Girl2k9 (Meath) - Posts: 2107 - 07/04/2009 11:32:22 250580 Link 0 |
Peterpan, Booing the opposition "is called atmosphere" ?? It is called unsporting behaviour and very bad manners and has no place in our sport !! Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 07/04/2009 11:47:33 250606 Link 0 |
Ah now booing a meath player is a different story - Thats fine. peterpan (Louth) - Posts: 80 - 07/04/2009 11:53:13 250616 Link 0 |
Peterpan, I was more trying to point out that it was a minor player but take from it what you want Royal_Girl2k9 (Meath) - Posts: 2107 - 07/04/2009 12:11:08 250642 Link 0 |
