Earth to mikey, earth to mikey Where have you been the past few weeks? FIFA President Sepp Blatter was in Belfast about a month ago and gave his opinion on the passports row. He stated that ANYONE born in the North and holding a valid Irish passport IS deemed eligible to play for the Republic as their Irish identity and citizenship are enshrined in the Good Friday Agreement. It is a binding international agreement and FIFA are about to make a ruling and give a statement on this is the near future. The Northern IFA have lost this battle and anyway why should an Irish kid born in Belfast, Derry or Newry be denied the chance to play for their country? FIFA's legal people have recognised this and that is why it is a done deal, a non arguement. Having said that I have no problem with ANYONE born in the North wanting to play for the North. It is all about choice but be under no illusions we do have the choice. However many Northern Nationalists look South for their sport and culture whether some people want to realise it or not.

Frank Og, Brian and Tommy McGuigan all born in the states as well. Not too sure if they hold American passports or Irish Passports like the rest of us up here in Tyrone.

In relation to the last three posts,keep_the_faith although you are technically right saying that it's not in the spirit of the Gaa and obviously it offends the last two members

Pitchfork_bobby and keep_the_faith are you two the same? You both seem to use the same vocabulary and the way in which the sentences are put are the same.

Geddon of coure it pains me to see another county have sam,the fact that its an ulster county is completely irrelevant,i do not have any bias or a stigma about ulster teams..

The fact that you are even comparing me with this lad is disappointing,he either has nothing to say because i have never seen him before today,Or he is a complete hs rookie, going by the way he structures his posts anyway he hasnt been around very long, thanks for that geddon..

Ollie (Louth) Is Owen Zamboglou foreign born or his parents?

Why do these debates always come back to attacking people in the north of Ireland? Isn't it enough that they were treated like dirt all through their history there by unionists and now they're being discriminated against by their own in the south. For the people who constantly refer to northern Irish people as being 'foreign' - grow up and count yourselves lucky that you're not in their situation.

Real Louth Fan,

Owen's father, Manolis, came to Ireland to manage a hotel near where i came from in Cavan. He came from Greece. He then went to Dundalk to manage another hotel. The one which was knocked to make way for the Carrickdale. A lovely man who married a Cooley woman i believe !! Used to know him well !!

Good god lads/ladies, why does the simplest of topics in this country inevitably end up in a row/discussion about the North, UK, 800 years of opression blah blah blah, please go onto some of the many political websites out there if you wish to discuss the aforementioned subjects, as this allegedly is a GAA website, although you would wonder sometimes.
