Have too agree there ,I think we have been blinded by Micko but the cracks are showing just look at what he had with Kerry ,I think Arthur French might have won an All-Ireland back then with the talent they had ...Barrowsider I think is right the deal has been done . eyeontheball (Wicklow) - Posts: 80 - 17/04/2009 18:07:09 260711 Link 0 |
What a joke of a county Wicklow truly is. I am informed by a very good source that Walshe is to return to training with them next week. He will commute from Carlow for training and any matches. Ironically, when the transfer was going through two years ago there was a big fuss made by so called Wicklow supporters about the fact that he would be a Wicklow resident and thus was indeed eligible to transfer. Unfortunately, and laughably, Wicklow needed two attempts to come up with an actual address that exists before it was finally passed by the Leinster Council; albeit only by a whisker 4 votes to 3 (i.e. 3 independent members of the Leinster Council didn't accept the bone fides of the transfer request). Of course once it went through the issue of residence no longer mattered and still doesn't but I am amused that those on this site who were so emphatic that he was eligible to transfer by virtue of his apparent "residence" have nothing to say now. The likes of Wicklowwanderer, Believer, An Other, Concept and others that I cannot recall must presumably be happy to have someone with no connection to Wicklow parachuted in at a time of his choosing to represent them. How proud they must be of "their county" team. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1603 - 17/04/2009 22:01:52 260951 Link 0 |
I hate to say this but wicklow has landed itself in a big mess, esp over Thomas Walsh. As a Carlow man i never want to see him play for Carlow again and actually if wicklow had any sense ye wouldnt be goin runnin with cap in hand to him either. From day 1 of this whole sorry mess i felt sorry for lads born n bred in wicklow whos place was taken by Mr Walsh, lads ye should be lookin after yer own not an outsider.I though he might have bn man enough to come back and play for his own county this year n lets face it we gave him plenty of opportunites, but he wasnt returning. He seems to have done the same with ye so why in gods name would ye take him back now, surely ye should be stickin with the guys ye had training all winter???Im sure if he is taken back there will be severe repercussions in wicklow football.Micko will be gone this year as well and since his arrival what have ye got to show for it??Is football in Wicklow in a better place??? I dont think so.All that money should have been pumped into under age where ye would have had something worthwhile to show in years to come. I often have a look on Wicklow frum, but never bother posting as its not my county forum. Re the Thos Walshe affair up to now, i know its not the Wicklow fans fault that he ended up playing for ye. Its Micko and the backers, who have has created a bad feeling between Carlow and Wicklow which never existed before all this. I'm sure from the start there were many in Wicklow who were uncomfortable about the whole thing. Of course as a Carlowman i was really angry about it. But not at the supporters, but at Micko and the co board and others involved. So i have to say beating Wicklow last week for me was very very enjoyable, just to leave Micko stuck in Div 4...and having to face criticism from Wicklow fans for possibly the 1st time. But especially after hearing about his trip to see Thomas a couple of days beforehand. That is just not on. Reading The Boss post above me sums up pretty much how i feel about this situation too. I would hate to see Thos Walshe ever wear the Carlow jersey again. And i am sure most Wicklow people will say the same about him turning out for ye. It seems its true that he is going to play for Wicklow in championship, and that is wrong on so many levels. Its not fair on Luke Dempsey, the Carlow panel, the Carlow supporters, the Wicklow panel esp any mf who will lose his place cos of his return, and on the Wicklow supporters who deserve to see committed Wicklowmen wear the jersey. Not some outsider who after turning his back on his own county, then gets to pick and choose when he'd like to turn up for his "adopted" co!! Best of luck to both our counties in May and lets hope we have a 1st round win each to celebrate! The Real 1944 (Carlow) - Posts: 1114 - 18/04/2009 00:41:51 261179 Link 0 |
All I can say is that Wicklow have even less shame than Walsh.I will not support them as long as they continue to indulge in this farce. Can ANYBODY answer me WHY is Walsh coming back from Carlow to play with a co. he has no connection whatsoever with. Thats the reason I wont be supporting Wicklow until he is gone for good. Shame on Wicklow co. board , there isint a MAN among them. We are going to rue the day we brought Odwyer here. bigman55 (Wicklow) - Posts: 12 - 18/04/2009 10:22:08 261253 Link 0 |
Well forcus Im sure you must be pleased to see walsh back in the fold, given your hatred for the Carlow jersey it must give you great pleasure that ye will once more be lining out with a Carlow man on board. Maybe you and your colleague stanley would like to give us your opinion on this latest little twist. Looking forward to your reply. bigman55 (Wicklow) - Posts: 12 - 18/04/2009 10:55:26 261267 Link 0 |
Unknown09,anscadanglic, and stanley: Maybe ye would like to answer the questions that ye posed when I informed ye that Walsh would be back for Wicklow. Do ye still feel the same or are ye going to row along just like all the other spineless officials on your co. board. Never was the term MICKLOW more appropriate. dead_as_dodos (Carlow) - Posts: 459 - 18/04/2009 11:17:01 261276 Link 0 |
Welcome back Thomas you are highly regarded and liked by the Wicklow panel and it is obvious by now you have no desire to play for Carlow again and Ithink that tells a lot about the carlow setup. The likes of Dublin and Cork never had a problem with outside players playing for them over the years. wick (Wicklow) - Posts: 57 - 19/04/2009 19:53:21 262264 Link 0 |
Wick, do you seriously think it is the "Carlow set-up", as you call it, that is the reason behind his decision to return to play for Wicklow? Please elaborate on why you think he has made such a decision. Go on, give us a laugh ... maybe he is encouraged by the three great wins Wicklow had in this years NFL against London, Clare and, er, mighty Kilkenny or maybe it's the latest in a long line of fine minor teams that ye've managed to put together that he finds so encouraging? Bottom line is that every dog on every street knows that your county's set up is a joke, as evidenced by your results in both hurling and football, even more so at underage level, so please enlighten us as to what, in your view, it is that makes Wicklow so attractive? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... In case you haven't noticed - Thomas Walsh isn't a new player coming in and played for Wicklow in the League, Championship & Tommy Murphy Cup in 2007 and 2008. He also played in the Wicklow SFC in 2007 & 2008. It was always agreed that he would return to Wicklow after the rugby season. Concentrate your efforts on trying to get Donie Kingston back from Laois because this will be the third year that Thomas will be playing for Wicklow. over the bar (Wicklow) - Posts: 98 - 20/04/2009 00:54:07 262538 Link 0 |
Listen sam maguire this isint whinging on my behal at least. I believe that Walsh needs to be told in no uncertain manner by Wicklow gaa supporters that he is not welcome back. Whatever flimsy excuse there was for him playing before there is absolutely none now. Not one of the media (with the possible exception of eugene magee) stood up to O'Dwyer on this walsh thing. What is his legacy to Wicklow going to be. The same applies to Walsh by the way... bandwagon09 (Wicklow) - Posts: 48 - 20/04/2009 09:10:02 262579 Link 0 |
All im saying bandwagon is that the championship is about to start and people should be getting behind there county despite the problems, obviously you have a point but I just feel that when walsh starts playing and hopefully well and wicklow get a bit of a run together this will be forgotten! Over the bar with mindless comments like that is it any wonderwe are in our present position in both codes. We have been hammered in minor football, minor hurling, ditto u21s, relegated in hurling to fourth div. , won three games in senior (kilkenny and london wow). Now you think its ok to waste more scarce resources on getting back a man who obviously has no interest in the future of Wicklow. Well I think its short term lunacy and hope that enough decent Wicklow people feel the same and make it clear to him when he DEIGNS to wear the jersey again. What a pathetic co. we have become. bandwagon09 (Wicklow) - Posts: 48 - 20/04/2009 12:29:52 262770 Link 0 |

anscadanglic Ithink the reason he left has been well aired on this site in so far as its possible to do given the editorial policy. However ill recap for you, he was refused expenses (wrongly in my opinion) and Wicklow obviously got wind of this and decided to exploit it to the full. We all know the mess that followed with people tripping themselves up with every statement they made. BTW patrick played with Carlow last year but didnt commit this year as he may be emigrating. Hope that answers your question. Now do you still believe that he wont make the Wicklow team as your CEIST suggests? That fact that you posed this suggests that you have some misgivings about him returning. I was just curious as to your current position on the affair. Perhaps youare just going to row along like the rest of your fellow co. men (with a few honourable exceptions) or are you big enough to call this for the charade that it is. dead_as_dodos (Carlow) - Posts: 459 - 20/04/2009 15:35:15 262996 Link 0 |
bandwagon09 - Thomas Walsh is officially a Wicklow player and his transfer is not new and was debated to death back in February 2007. Everybody made their views known at the time and it was investigated and officially sanctioned by the Leinster Council over two years ago. If you were following Wicklow teams for the last thirty years I'm surprised you didn't notice Walsh giving 110% for Wicklow in 2007 and 2008. over the bar (Wicklow) - Posts: 98 - 20/04/2009 16:47:23 263085 Link 0 |
