heard from a very reliable source that thomas will be lining out for wicklow in this years championship. This is not idle talk as this source is very close to interested parties. What do people think of this, especially the wicklow panel who have been slaving away all winter. I know other players like staff. have been missing but they havent been playing junior rugby and refusing to play in league. dead_as_dodos (Carlow) - Posts: 459 - 03/04/2009 08:22:51 247098 Link 0 |
He'd nearly be as well leaving Wicklow.. Great footballer but he's dragging the 2 counties into a serious bitter feud. Should leave it for the year and then decide Southern Dandy (Wicklow) - Posts: 789 - 03/04/2009 10:46:38 247193 Link 0 |

No offence dead as dodos but if the Thomas Walsh debacle has taught us anything it should to be very wary of gossip. How many times over the last year or so have we seen posters from both counties, though particularly Carlow saying ' i have it on good authority......, 'one of Walsh's friends told me.....' or 'Thomas Walsh's dog's cousin told my auntie's fiancee etc etc etc- i think you know what I'm getting at! I think it's best to take all these remarks with a big pinch of salt. Personally, I'm more interested in the fact that James Stafford is back. stanley (None) - Posts: 434 - 04/04/2009 13:28:29 248165 Link 0 |
none taken stanley. But IM 100% certain of this, mart my words. Im just curious as to what the general concensus is on this in Wicklow. I really dont think and im being very honest here that this will help Wicklow particularly in long term.I just feel that he is treating Wicklow in the same fashion as he treated carlow. dead_as_dodos (Carlow) - Posts: 459 - 04/04/2009 13:42:09 248170 Link 0 |

it is some state that wicklow have gotten themselves into that they now find themselves beholden to a man from another co. who has ignored them during the league but can now name his terms to play with them again. Wicklow co. board should be ashamed of themselves for creating this mess. there are no quick fixes and the sooner they realise that the better . Nothing to say stanley , Im not surprised really, as today was tailor made for cynics like you. dead_as_dodos (Carlow) - Posts: 459 - 13/04/2009 00:54:16 255536 Link 0 |

Hope this talk of ODWYER going to see thomas walsh in Carlow is not correct, although I worry the way the denials are a bit ambiguous. I believe we should stick to panel that played in league and not go cap in hand to someone who has ignored us during the last six months. Apart from the act that he shouldnt be playing with us at all , he must have some neck to think he can swan back in whenever it suits him. Do Wicklow officials see nothing wrong with this carry on,we are going to reap the whirlwind for this episode for a long time. Some people I have spoken to are really inscenced at the latest twist in this saga and I have to agree with them. Let walsh play with his own county,we should be big enough to stand on our own . Final question, what is the difference between him and other panel members, apart from the fact that he doesnt live in co. play any club football in co. or is not a native of co. Someone needs to get to bottom of this once and for all as its a disgrace and an insult to Wicklow football. Remember Odwyer will be out of here in jig time but we will be left with the scars of this mess for some time. Anyone agree with me on this? bigman55 (Wicklow) - Posts: 12 - 15/04/2009 17:22:33 258026 Link 0 |
I agree with you bigman! If the talk of two recent visits by Micko to the home of Walshe are true, then it really is pathetic in my opinion. Luke Dempsey drew a line in the sand after the first three league games and much as I would wish to see Thos and Paddy Walshe back in Carlow colours I agreed with Luke that their chance had gone and he was moving on without them. In a bizaare kind of way I now find myself almost hoping that Walshe does make a last gasp return to the Wicklow panel if only so that I can sit back and enjoy reading of the inevitable the derision, if not division, amongst existing Wicklow panel members and on the part of the genuine Wicklow supporters who knew from day one two years ago that this infamous transfer stank to the high heavens. Genuine Wicklow people finally see the light! I also thought some sections of the Carlow support on Sunday were very generous and helpful to Mick O'Dwyer...pointing out Carlow midfielders, half backs, corner forwards that he might fancy for his Wicklow panel MOH (Carlow) - Posts: 128 - 15/04/2009 21:56:43 258318 Link 0 |
Its rather sad to see that the only replies to my earlier post were both from Carlow people. Are there no geniune Wicklow people who object to this sham or are we still too much in awe of Odwyer to cry foul. Its not as if he has performed miracles for us , we are still rooted to div. 4 . What a crowd of yes men we have become. bigman55 (Wicklow) - Posts: 12 - 16/04/2009 11:29:36 258771 Link 0 |
I agree with you big man that the thomas walsh affair is a farce and that i wouldnt want him near the team,i dont agree with you completely about mick o dwyer done nothing for the county though, yes we are in division 4 but thats the place we deserve to be,the standard of club football in wicklow is at an all time low so we should be in div 4,its being 7 years since we have won a leinster club championship match and that is not good enough,Wicklow have won a Leinster championship match last year and that is an impovement. brettlee (Wicklow) - Posts: 151 - 16/04/2009 12:04:29 258819 Link 0 |
I would not take him back also.... Dragging both counties down and what about the subs who have been getting very little time would it result in these lads possibly leaving the panel after training all year just for a lad who thinks he can decide when to play for a county.. Southern Dandy (Wicklow) - Posts: 789 - 16/04/2009 12:27:54 258843 Link 0 |
There's probably an innocent explanation to the whole thing Onion Breath. The Wicklow officials have discounted that he was there on official duty if at all. We shouldnt have any reason to doubt this. He was probably just calling to buy a bag of spuds or some such like Passer_By (Carlow) - Posts: 537 - 16/04/2009 15:35:50 259101 Link 0 |
This is my honest opinion; Thomas Walsh has been stringing WICKLOW FOOTBALL along for fare to long.HE AND ONLY HIM ALONE CAN PUT THIS TO BED.He needs to get of the fence and make his position clear for once and for all,for the sake of both WICKLOW and CORLOW football.WICKLOW football does not revolve around one "PLAYER".There is a panel of 25 players who still consider it an honour to represent there County. PUT THEM FIRST AND LETS STOP THIS NONSENCE ONCE AND FOR ALL. Just a question.when Micko goes ,which he will at the end of the season. Will WICKLOW FOOTBALL be any better off than when he came in??? gunner (Wicklow) - Posts: 9 - 16/04/2009 16:07:04 259163 Link 0 |
I agree with you gunner,I wont go to a single wicklow game if walsh is brought back. I have been following wicklow teams for the last thirty years but I have kept my silence on this business. Iregret now that I havent spoken out earlier as I was always uneasy about this affair. It was a ready up from day one but we were so carried away with Micko that we turned a blind eye to what was going on. Then last year we got a bit of a run and people once again didnt question anything and in any case walsh was living here (i think) and playing for bray. However this year has taken the biscuit, he is living in Carlow ,hasent played one game or trained once with Wicklow yet here we are at beginning of championship and we have Odwyer going pleading with him to play. Thats some kick in the teeth for all the lads training since january. I hope that they vote with their feet if he is brought back bandwagon09 (Wicklow) - Posts: 48 - 16/04/2009 21:02:10 259534 Link 0 |
