red rum have you any evidence to support your theory that ice baths flush out lactic acid as there is no documented medical litterature to support that view. or is it something that you heard. reddoctor (Tyrone) - Posts: 1241 - 06/06/2008 13:55:48 29224 Link 0 |
well reddoctor what i do know is that it is scientific fact that increased heart rate (which the ice bath will induce) will deliver oxygen to the muscles at a faster rate. Thus, Once sufficient oxygen is restored, the lactic acid can be utilized for energy or reconverted into glucose by the liver and other tissues (oxidation). This will eventually help bring us full circle to muscle recovery. although this does not directly prove the effectiveness of ice baths, it is strong support, RedRum (Fermanagh) - Posts: 278 - 06/06/2008 14:56:08 29288 Link 0 |

your eulogising my man red rum or is that red dum if you can show me that an ice bath can increase heart rate to a level where oxygen can be utilised more efficiently i will be astounded. how would this be measured. also what would be the optimum temperature of the ice for this astounding miracle. for your theory to be correct the muscles that ice baths are designed to help the legs wouuld need to be actually exercising to increase blood flow to them. but quote the paper or journal or more likely the library book you have taken this info from, and i will be happy to reassess. reddoctor (Tyrone) - Posts: 1241 - 09/06/2008 11:41:32 29873 Link 0 |
