I think there is less trouble than days gone by. There was trouble between Cork and Galway fans on the Hill in '86, a lot of windows smashed on the Cork train leaving Dublin in '89 after the semi-final and a barage of objects hurled against the netting behind the city end of Pairc Ui Chaoimh(Davy Fitz wasn't so popular with the Tipp faithful at the time) in Cork by Tipp fans when they played Clare(as well as a few other incidents in the city the previous night). So I think these type of incidents are much less common now. I think a lot of what happened which was mainly in the 80's/early 90's came from high unemployment and the culture that encouraged such behaviour emanating from England during that same period.

" i remember trouble at the 1984 all ireland semi final when the dubs on the hill had running battles with the garda during the game, then came on the pitch after the game and made their way over to the hogan stand"
I'm ashamed to say it but you are right, in fact during the early 80s there were a good few running battles on the terraces with gardai. If you remember this was before the new Hill, when there were very few barriers and the crowd would sway back and forward like a schoal of mackeral. I was only 11/12 then, on one occasion I was moved several yards without my feet touching the ground, very scarey but great story to tell the lads back in school on monday. Mental stuff by the fans and the gardai. Unfortunately it took Hilsborough to stop all that carry-on.

I was at the Kerry-Dublin game in Semple stadium a few years ago when Maurice Fitzgerald scored that wonderful point from the sideline to bring it to a replay. That day I was unfortunate enough to be leaving the stadium in the midst of hundreds of Dublin fans. While I am not tarring them all with the same brush, a large number were chanting 'ye are sheep s**ging b****rds' and one fella of about 20 grabbed me and shouted it in my face, a brave thing to do to a boy not even out of primary school. This was an extreme case but so far from my expieriences of other fans I would say that there are some that follow the Dublin football team that have no place in the GAA. We all enjoy the banter that goes on at games but when it becomes personal, abusive or physical there is no place for it.

Rub A Dub that incident was provoked by the team Dublin were playing, who provoked the atomsphere and bad tension that day,but not to worry it was just an other whipping for an ulster team. And for the Kerry supporter cop on.

in fairness tomaoo7 you are right about the incident back in 84 but regarding the defender that type of behaviour by dublin fans doesn't seem too uncommon.

Stan i was in Thurles after Cork 83 this was 1 of the Great days out for Dublin fans,i had great day drinking with Kerry men for 40,000 dubs in thurles i didnt see any trouble if a few kids carry on stupid why should it blacken the name of the 40,000 that went to thurles,It was 1 of the best sporting events this decade even though we lost but thats us Dubs true sporting Giants,I dont condone any of that carry on.For 84 that county know who they are, there always the same

I'll think you will find its spelt Páidí ó Sé. You said 'supporter',So one fella speaks for us all now? An isolated incident carried out by one person doesnt make Kerry fans all bad.

tomaoo7 I think if you read the Defender he says he didnt want to tar all Dublin supporters with the same brush.

thers no crowd trouble of note in the gaa. no more than any other sport outside soccer. every single time at a meath v dublin game you will always see a tiny tiny patch of green in the hill and nothing ever happens to them. in 07 there was some people up the front. in the 1st game of 07 i could see a few in the middle. in 05 there was a big enough patch in the top right corner (although they looked mainly like girls). now if you seen a patch of river plate fans in a crowd of boca juniors fans, there is no possible way they are coming out alive (male or female). or even at celtic v rangers. you would get beat into pulp if you ended up in a group with rangers fans and a celtic jersey on. milan/juve, united/livepool, madrid/barca, galatasary/fernabache etc. etc.

so to some up, this thread is pointless as theres no crowd trouble in gaa

Well said 32. Brought English friend of mine to Dublin Meath Leinster final in 1996 and he was absolutely stunned by the way in which fans mixed and was convinced that Meath supporters would be killed because Dubs were beaten. Only thing killed were kegs of porter and cider! Of course there are idiots around but there is no toleration for the sort of madness that is routine at English soccer matches.

the only trouble i've had at GAA matches both involved so called dublin fans. they threw half bricks from the hill into the nally stand after tyrone beat them in a league semi in 1992 i think and the next year was with my cousins who support derry and our bus had all its windows put out in dublin. we managed to make it through loyalist newbuildings without incident though. from an earlier point. what behaviour by tyrone fans last year are people talking about please? and it doesn't seem to be the nordies who are causing bother at half ***** league of ireland matches does it????

tomaoo7,im sure you yearn for the days when your team whipped those northern teams with regularity.ah well, sure you have the memories.that 84 semi final was my first experience of dublin supporters and it left a lasting impression.the dubs on the hill can create a great atmosphere and bring alot of colour but its just a pity about the coin and bottle throwers.you referred to the down fans unfurling a union flag in front of the hill and causing an uproar in front of the hill.funny that, because when ulster teams play dublin in croker, some of your fans arent slow in telling us to go back to the queen.indeed this was the case during the minutes silence at the recent league meeting between dublin and tyrone when similar insults could clearly be heard from the hill.so i will finish up by saying that every county has an unwanted element following them but in my opinion dublin has the biggest problem.

How could Stan19 prove your point when you didnt make a point? One Kerry man runs onto the field and attacks Páidí so all Kerry supporters are violent.........One Wexford supporter ran on the field at Croke Park naked, so all Wexford supporters are streakers????????

Makes a good point, its not so much crowd trouble as isolated incidents, nothing like the violence in other sports
