Best dual county?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

in fairness to an Íarmhí i'd say they are a dual county. much admiration for the Dubs improvements in hurling. is this anything to do with the Fingal team?

Inthis order...

True Dual Counties - Cork, Galway, Limerick, Offaly, Wexford, Laois, Dublin.
Strong Pockets of Other Game - Tipp, Antrim, Carlow, Down, Clare, Westmeath

Anyone after that is almost completely a one sport county.

Haha. I cant believe I just made a list of ''How Dual different counties are?''. These boards can do crazy things to a man!

Tipperary hands down lads...

Its they had a few more decent hurlers they could be on for the all-ireland double this year...

Cork.

The rest of us are playing catch up. And some are quicker than others.

In terms of senior All Irelands its as follows:
Football Hurling
Cork 6 30
Dublin 22 13
Tipp 4 25
Galway 9 4
Wexford 5 6
Offaly 3 4

Ok some of these might not have relevance because they go back a couple of centuries but what the heck! Just thought you'ld like to know. Realistically, the only counties with a chance of adding to both lists over the next 2 years are Cork and Galway.

It has a be Cork or Galway, realistically they are the only 2 counties in with a chance of winning both Liam and Sam.

Ah yeah sure you're right! It's not like they've won it before.

In fact Paul Brady's a national disgrace he should hang up his gloves and boots too while he's at it!

This all depends on how you determine 'dual' status. If a county has to be in Division 1 in both codes, only Galway and Dublin count. If you include Division 1 and 2, Kerry, Westmeath, Cork, Laois and Wexford. If you're really bored (I did it before and couldn't be bothered doing it again) - go to gaainfo.com and combine the ratings for each county (or rank) as a measure of each counties 'dual' status.

I think lilywhite93's assessment is pretty accurate but for the past 30 years, Cork, Offaly & Galway are probably the best of the lot. All three have won All-Ireland's in both codes since 1980 and if you take which of them has the best chance this decade, of challenging for both titles each year I'd just about give Cork the nod, despite Galway's appearance in both finals in 2001.

Traditionally Cork but Galway and Dublin are making a move on them.

cant believe only one person has mentioned tipperary...just hows the lack of knowledge on this site sometimes...their hurlers are going to be the closest challenge to kilkenny this year, and the footballers have had an excellent league, and may well ruffle a few feathers in munster, and expect a good run through the qualifiers..
