Oh we of little faith!

Half backs really impressed today. As did Dick Clerkin again.

Great to get a good win when it's not expected.

Fantastic win today and our best performance of the year to date made all the sweeter after enduring the pure pessimism on here. I'd like to see us in the division decider but wouldn't be too disappointed not to see us promoted.

Really looking forward to the trip down to Laois in 2 weeks time which should see a dramatic finale to the round stages of the league. The auld transistor radio will have to be dug out for that one.

By the way, no better place than Scotstown to see Monaghan playing and winning. ;)

A marked improvement on the fare that was dished out in Navan last Saturday night. Fair play .. I was very disillusioned after that - but yesterday was a whole different story.
Keep hearing on reports that Monaghan still lie in third place after Kildare & Cork, does anyone know what are the scoring averages are which separate us ?

Here's the table today.. We are in third, equal on points but 7 points in the difference wors than Cork and 8 points in the difference worse than Kildare. We need Cork/Kildare to either be beaten or we beat Laois by more than 7/8pts (assuming Cork/Kil draw their last games) or more than this if they win.. Hope this helps.

Team Pld Won Draw Lost For Against Diff Points
Kildare 6 4 1 1 100 73 27 9
Cork 6 4 1 1 91 65 26 9
Monaghan 6 4 1 1 102 83 19 9
Armagh 6 4 0 2 98 84 14 8
Laois 6 3 0 3 87 88 -1 6
Meath 6 2 1 3 67 72 -5 5
Ferm 6 1 0 5 71 90 -19 2
Wexford 6 0 0 6 62 123 -61 0

Armagh looking to get to Div 1 against a depleted Cork
Leinster Derby - Kildare v Meath
and
Laois safely tucked in mid table against us

Something is going to give - lets hope it's not us

Great to be in with a shout and playing for something

No prob MonAbu. You're assuming that Kildare WILL win by your statement, just to point out. If Cork get beaten by Armagh then we only need to win we'll go through along with Kildare, IF they win. If Kildare loose also then us and Armagh could go through, if Armagh beat Cork by a substantial amount..

I'd welcome more debate on this topic by other members as I'm sure I'm missing some of the possible permutations..!

Armagh winning was a vital result for us means they will be motivated for their trip to Cork something at stake Cork did not look great yesterday and I think Armagh can take something out of that match. Hopeful Meath might do us a favour as well but less likely as they dont look great at the minute and Kildare are flying best side in the division. If they can win in Clones they can win in Navan.

Either way great result yesterday will give the team a big boost ahead of Derry and they looked well up for the battle yesterday something that was lacking in recent matches. Thought Gary McQ and JP Mone were superb yesterday along with Paul Finlay. We really do have some quality players if they can attain a level of consistency they will hard to beat come the summer. Interestingly did anyone notice how still dependent Derry are on Paddy and Eoin Bradley in the game against Tyrone on Saturday evening. New Manager same Derry hopefully.

i cant believe how quiclky peoples attitude changes just cause we beat a very poor cork team.. im mean the team was a shadow of themsleves no hunger of anything..
we have played a poor football all through the league.. heres the league as i seen it
match against fermanagh poor
wexford match made monaghan look really good but we were bad in patches
lucky to beat armagh and they wernt much better..
kildare was our only real test and we failed even when it looked like a draw.. kildare pushed away..
meath could have beat us off the pitch if they had shooters as we wer cleaned out in most positions
cork wer very bad and we shall leave it at that laois will be tough..
i cant see this team going anywhere this year..
derry look very tough and they would clean out our players bar a few who have steped up

also what is the story with the boys not on the panel on the.. i seen them standin in the at the fence before the match and during it..?
are they not allowed in to the dressin rooms..?
i think that rule is a bit harsh seeing as they train just as hard as the boys playin..
oh one more thing i hardly think its far on conor mc manus being taken off in the last 2 league matches and vinny playing very poor football being switched around to accomadate him.. not fair on conor i think after him giving us great football

Depleted Cork side??
Cork -- A Quirke; K O'Connor, R Carey, N O'Donovan; G Spillane, N O'Leary, M Shields; A O'Connor, N Murphy; C McCarthy, F Gould, P O'Flynn; D Goulding, D O'Connor, P Kerrigan. Subs: J Hayes for P O'Flynn, A O'Sullivan for A O'Connor (y/c), J Masters for F Gould, A O hAilpin for C McCarthy, P Kissane for G Spillane, B Crowley for K O'Connor.
Where is the depleted side here? Miskella, Lynch and Canty are really the only top players who are missing from the Cork team. But they were replaced by N O'Leary, M Shields and N Murphy. All equally as good.

For anybody who was at the game yesterday they would have seen some great football played by Monaghan. The only two players who weren't perfroming yesterday were taken off early in the game and replaced. Rightly so. It was clear that both players were having an off day. Both of them gave away the ball too easily.

For me the two best players were Dick and Darren Hughes. Dick won an awful lot of dirty low ball from the kickouts
Darren Hughes has been outstanding this year, he is a player that you can trust to do the right thing.
Two players who have played below their normal high standard were back to their best yesterday, Damien and Gary McQuaid, it was great to see it.
I was glad that the match was in Scotstown yesterday and not Clones, the pitch was in top condition, I think that really helped us. We have a lot of pace in the team and soft ground doesn't suit us. I hope it's going to be a long dry and sunny summer.
Lighten up and enjoy the football, it was a good day yesterday...

Great showing yesterday. The sloppy nature of the goal at the end of the 1st half was the only down point. The defence took over in the end, midfield dominated, and the forwards racked up a big score.

On a side note, everyone in the stand kept going on about how 'big' all the cork players were, it was gettin quite homo-erotic at one stage! What is the facination with football supporters and 'big' men? Big and useless most of them. Your man O'Halpinn that came on couldn't even solo it!!

Jap my MOTM.

Left Scotstown yesterday with a jump in my step. For the first time in my lifetime I witnessed us beating Cork. Amongst the memories were Brendan Murray being interviewed with a closed swollen eye on the Sunday Game in 1988 and the resulting Cork goal. Have to say that cold day in Blayney three years ago where it was winner takes all was in my thoughts also..but unfortunately for the poor Monaghan performance that day and the hail storm that came down in the second half.

Those ten minutes or so when Tommy hit the back of the net followed up by five more unanswered points were magical...the crowd got so into it and to be honest no team would have lived with us for that moment.

Forget about the next game for just 10 minutes...enjoy the moment.

In Jap we trust

If Cork or Kildare only manage a draw, all we need to do is win by a point.
If Kildare lose, all we need is a draw.
If Cork lose by less than 5 points, we're up with a draw. If Cork lose by more than 5 points, Armagh could pip us if we don't win.
If Cork and Kildare both win, then we need to beat Laois by 7 or 8 points, plus the number of points that Kildare or Cork win by, plus one!

How things can change so so quickly.
After a poor show in Navan some people were calling for Banty's head. Now that the boys beat Cork that is quickly forgot about. 'You are only as good as your last game' is a very true saying.
We need not get carried away. Yes it was a fantastic performance there is no doubt about that but hey keep the feet on the ground. We showed on our day we can beat anyone when the team produce the goods. Hopefully we can build on this and get the result that will take us to Div 1 where this Monaghan side deserve to be.
But to be honest you won't get much better games than they got against Cork and they answered the call when ased

I'm with 'thehaymarker'...enjoy the moment!
We're quick enough to criticise after a poor performance (see the posts after the Meath game), so lets give credit where its due. The guys went out on Sunday and showed all the passion, drive and commitment that were missing against Meath. We beat Cork by 7 points, not too many teams do that. It doesn't mean we're gonna win the Championship, but thats no reason not to be delighted with the win. Roll on Laois, hopefully we can get a good crowd down for that match.

Interesting bit in the paper about how the O'h'Ailpins' grandfather played with Scotstown in the 30's, didn't hear of that before.

Also, what height is Aisake O'h'Ailpin? There was a bit of height difference obvious between him and JP during the match but the picture in the Post shows it well, he's towering over JP, and JP is a big man! Knew Setanta was a big man but never really seen that fella before. Cork have some massive team!
