Ciaran McDonald

personally feel mcdonald is overrated and i always thought that. Felt he tried the fancy stuff far too much and more often than not did not come off. As far as the compromise rules goes he certainly got stuck in and along with mcgeeney were about the only ones who stood up to the aussies.

Samin,
Do you ever stop putting the boot into Mayo football? One post to voice your opinions isnt enough, twice now you have put the boot in. Cop yourself on, if you cannot see Mc was a class act you need your eyes and head tested im afraid. To say he was over-rated is a joke.

Hope its not the end of his career but if it is well done Mac, one of the best players of this generation.

Fair enough Samin, apology accepted.

Hes not a god in Mayo, hes a great footballer, a genuine nice guy and gentleman on and off the pitch. He was overlooked for a few years by managment, foolishly, but never the less returned and gave his all. After the defeat in in the AI final he was devestated, and said he wished mayo could have done it for the fans. A lot of ye (people outside mayo) dont see see him off the pitch. After matches he will always wait to sign autographs for the mobs of kids that run up to him, he loves to wear the jersey and always gives 110%, thats all. There is no shrine in knock dedicated to him.

There is a lot of tripe being spouted on here, and I dont know what Mayo has ever done to samin10, but you need to get a life mate.

Any time ballboy posts (which is often), youre on here trying to wind him up. Even in subjects that hes not involved with, you always have to get the dig on about Mayo.

Ciaran McDonald is a wonderful player, and I echo Thomas Clarkes sentiments.

When playing with Crossmolina, the players are more on his wavelength, and the likes of Joe Keane and Paul McGuinness, while never making onto the county scene, have been some of the best club forwards in Mayo in the last ten years.

He is a hard man in the true sense of the word, strong as an ox, gets plenty of kicks etc from supposed 'hard men' but never reacts.

Ciaran usually keeps himself to himself, but this time, he has obviously been (well) advised that he should speak up and clear the situation. If you look at the Mayo message board, there is constant speculation that he is transferring clubs and counties. That is not and has never been the case.

I hope that he can be kept on the panel in some capacity, as he is showing for club that he still holds the magic and is worth a good 20 min display. If nothing else, he provides the crowd with a great lift when he comes on.

14183 definately the best of all time no questions noone could even come close- never mind expert fans, players were terrified of him in a blink of an eye he could make a complete fool of any defender- no man in the country has consistently got the better of him- he man have had a bad day and that usually still ends up with a man of the match performance- most skillful dedicated player we have ever had play our games- i think if he does retire the gaa should honor him in some way - i think it would be befitting to rename the hill after ciaran - its no more than he deserves and has proved with the best point ever scored in croker that he is indeed king of the hill

Geezer put him in his pocket in 2005 national league semi final. No shame in that though happened to many players.

I think genuine fans all over the country recognise Ciaran Mc for the quality player he is. As far as I recall any hassle or controversy or rumours about Mc were from within Mayo itself - internal stuff, innuendos etc. Never saw or heard a bad word about the person other than from within his own county. And I think he still has a lot more than 20 minutes to offer.

essexile. why do you feel that me saying ciaran mcdonald is not the greatest player of all time is a wind up?

Its this sort of attitude that has turned me off mayo. If i do not agree with the many mayo posters who often say how great they are and that conor mortimor and ciaran mcdonald are the greatest players about, i get criticised for having a go at mayo for not simply saying yes they are the greatest team and yes they are the greatest footballers of all time. Seems to me the debate in mayo has to be who is the greatest forward of all time, Mortimor or McDonald? Sorry but its neither and if that offends you tough.

Samin10,the only person that would put conor mortimor in the same sentence as macdonald is your mate ballboy and we all know hes either totally deluded or the greatest wind up merchant of all time.Mortimor is a very good inter county footballer, probably in the top ten in the country, macdonald is a role model and a legend,in my opinion the greatest to wear the red and green.

JayoC,

Thats a fair point and not one I'd argue with. I was just making the point that there was a reason why he went to the press, and I shouldnt have got wound up by the usual protagonists!

Usually a very private man, a few years ago he stayed quiet when overlooked for the Mayo team and all sorts of stories were flying about, so this time he decided to clear the air.

The man isnt a God, he's a seriously talented footballer, and probably the purest talent Ive ever seen live (and that statement isnt made lightly), but the fact that he has blonde hair and tattoos makes a lot of people think they come on here and spout ridiculous stuff about 'spice boys' and the likes.

If CMD decided to wear a dress at the weekends and call himself Ciara (which he doesnt, by the way) it wouldnt make a shred of difference once he crossed the white line on a Sunday. (Provided he still wears shorts on the pitch ;)

samin10 - Essexile has a point here (and one which I pointed out to you before). You constantly follow around Mayo posters and do your utmost to get a dig in where ever possible. It's strange cause you post normally everywhere else. Give it a rest. It has been said on this site a million times: Mayo people are not all like the few posters on here who get up some people's noses. You are guilty of turning your annoyance with one or two people into a dislike of a whole county.
What with your vendetta against Mayo and Snufalufagus's mission to put RealJoeJoe back in his place there's a whole lot of Charles-Bronsen-Deathwish type stuff going on.
Maybe you feel that you have a good reason for it (and maybe you do!) but it's getting a bit old. Rise above it all lad :)

Jesus Essexile - your post here has just uncovered something - Cora Staunton is really CMD in disguise!! Makes sense - both class acts, great forwards and the star of their teams! :-)

Samin10,
You have had your opinion so can you please stop trawling the Mayo message board and laying digs, its really pathetic at this stage. And everyone thinks BB is bad.................................

Dry your eyes spuddy. There is people from different counties on every county message board ont the site, granted its normally mayo people on other county pages slagging them off, if you cant handle it dont read it. What was my dig anyway on the mayo page? Was it on the Will Mayo win the all-ireland in the next 10 years thread? Where i simply answered no. I am so sorry such a terrible dig, go and tell your mammy.

RMdrive.

I understand your frustration, i really do because i feel it too. But as far as having a dig all the time goes i know i do on some threads ie, mayo security. As far as this ciaran mcdonald thread is concerned it is not a wind up or anything else, i have simply stated that he is a good player but i always felt he was over rated, by all accounts he sounds like a gentleman, i stuck up for him when people were saying he did not stand up to the aussies. My point is mayo people seem to take it as some sort of great offence when you say he was good but not the greatest. I would take it as a compliment if someone told me i was a good footballer and i was one of the few who got stuck into the aussies. The reason why it might sound like i am replying to mayo people all the time is probably because they have the most posters, most posts on this website are from mayo people good or bad.

Cora McDonald/Ciaran Staunton.

Imagine if they bred, youd have some footballers....

Maybe thats the way forward for Mayo football - rebuild from the genes up!!

My favourite non Dub/Limerick footballer of the modern era. A class act and I can also vouch that the man is a gentleman. Much respect to Supermac. The man is a class act.
