Francie to retire?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was that a Tyrone man slagging Francie for pulling and dragging! A great player and by all accounts (of those who played against him) certainly nothing like the image some have of him as a dirty player. Showed that again yesterday. Good honest tough full back. Never saw Francie mouth into anyone's face about their family either come to think of it.

A legend, past his best but still well fit for club football.

walkman, i understand some of your points.and your right to a certain degree.i just dont see him as a naturally athletic player with loads of ability.I dont think if he was with Armagh for longer that it would have made much difference to him.he lacks a certain amount of skill and his game is based purely on power and toughness and somewhat dirty play.

Calrity, You obviously have a different interpretation of what a dirty player is. Francie is only seen as a tough player because he is tough. Fair enough he might not have had much skill but he still did his. Like someone has said before he has only been red carded twice and one was later changed.

Francie was\is a great Full Back.
There isn't a team in the country that he wouldn't get onto. Would Kerry rather have Tom O'Sullivan or Francie? Would Tyrone rather have Joe McMahon or Francie?? Ross McConnell anybody???
Monaghan would love to have him on the team as when a high ball is dropping in, or a forward is bearing in on the goals the only man to get it back out the field would be Francie!!!!!!
The man is not a midfielder, or forward, his postion is Full Back and he excels at it...... Fair play to ya!!!!!!

Lads enough with this myth. It was embarassing watching him yesterday, milk turns quicker than Francie does. If he doesn't get you with the first big hit he's got nothing, far too slow for today's game in my opinion

Darren Fays so called lack of quality won him two all ireland medals..Francie cant say that

Indeed he can't, and he can't say he has six all Ireland senior medals either after yesterday. Alas Francie might have to settle for the FIVE he already has.

Not that medals count towards greatness as I keep telling people.

I can see where your coming from!i myslef have gotten extremely frustrated with this john 3 7 fella,he seems to try and get into arguments with the likes of myself, postsplitter and sheepshooter for attention,Francie was a fantastic full back in his prime and still has lots to offer armagh, had a very poor club final-he hasnt the pace for centre back..

You are talking rubbish. I am not getting into arguments. Im expressing my opinion on GAA matters which i am perfectly entitled too. And Francie had a poor game yesterday but he was a much better full back then Darren Fay and his achivements show that

Darren Fay in my opinion was probably the prince of modern style full backs, in that he could field the ball, was tough, and was mobile.

Francie was a good man marker and fielded some memorable high balls in his time. To me Fay was a better all round player, but Francie was good at doing simple things and keeping a dangerous opponent quiet. He actually deserved his all star.

But as I said earlier, Fay was exceptional in the new full back role.
