Let us lose the siege mentality

The truth? Due to exposure of the premiership soccer every little issue gets blown up these days by a sanctimonious media and pundits.

Yes Ricey grabbing someone by the Henry Hall's was unusual, but we have all seen worse. The Kilkenny V Waterford game, a bit tame but then only a league match. Should have seen Rossa V St Johhn's in Antrim last year, 5 all in riots, two sent off, wonderful entertainment because most of it was that macho "bumping and barging" indulged in at most GAA matches.

I think poor Ricey however is condemned due to his utterly disgraceful "sledging". That's why it would not pass Health and Safety grounds to send Ricey onto a hurling field.

Many others now do this, but Ricey perfected it, well if you believe people from Tyrone anyway.

tyrone brigade ;There is one reason why the actions of Ryan McMenamin have been seized up with such furious zeal - television. The growth in television coverage of Gaelic games has been constant. From the early days of highlights and finals to saturation coverage of pre-season provincial competitions, many inter-county players now find themselves in the spotlight throughout the season. Form, performance, discipline. . . all are scrutinised forensically.

And this has, without doubt, led to 'special treatment' in high profile disciplinary cases where the influence of the media is palpable in the actions of the GAA's committees. No one condones foul play but if televised games are going to be subjected to a different level of disciplinary scrutiny than non-televised games or even club games, then the GAA needs to articulate these distinctions. A county player, in the eyes of the GAA, does not differ from any other member of the organisation and thus deserves identical treatment in terms of punishment. This is patently not the case, as decisions reached by the DRA last year would seem to bear out.bonjour

DPC, he has difficulty with words of one syllable or more thats why he does it, I caught him out with his 'thread' on Glasgow Rangers. Its like I say, tomaoo7 can only tag on his comments, but cant come up with a worthwhile discussion point of his own.

oh tomato how you make us laugh. He got his latest inspiration from an article on the front of the GPA website. Tomato - that sound you can laugh is the sound of laughter coming all the way from Tír Eoghain, from Aughnacloy to Strabane, Aghyarn to Ardboe.

Times are quite good up here tomato. We have Sam, we've already beaten the Dubs, we've still got the mental edge over the Kingdom and we've got everyone talking about us day and nigh. In fact, I'd go so far as to say we have many's a good man here on HS obsessed with Tyrone. There's a particular poster from Roscommon on the Tyrone page who's literally posting morning, day and night about how horrible we were to the angels from Kerry. So a pretty good start to the year all round! Not so good for the Metropolitans though, as I'm sure you'll be aware. You'll be welcomed with open arms in Tyrone, I'm sure. Any more cut and paste jobs on the cards tomato?

Padraic, please. Never mind "cut and paste" from the papers READ them, especially the results.

The Dubs have had a great start to the league, certainly safe from relegation which is always the priority.

Clare could surprisingly fill that slot.

I honestly don't believe anybody from the South, East or West has a problem with Tyrone, Ulster, Antrim, Donegal. I do have opinions on the type of football played and I have opinions about Kerry's, Dublin's and Tyrone's style of football in recent times and I have opinions on Cork and Meath in the 80's when I thought the football was dire. I actually think irrespective of some of the tactics implemented and mastered by some teams in the North (without naming names for a change), that the football played in the past decades is better than some of the football played in the 80's. Down and Donegal were a breathe of fresh air in the early 90's. It was pretty dire stuff when Cork and Meath were competing for All-Irelands. No disrespect to these teams they were the cream of the crop at the time. But there definitely is this defensive thing with people from up in Ulster. You see it on these sites every day. Raise a negative opinion on Armagh, Tyrone or some of other teams and you basically have the whole of Ulster on yer back saying you are against us and all this stuff. Like Meath and Cork in the 80's was terrible (games were won with long range free kicked between Tompkins and Stafford) The current Kerry team don't have the composure of the teams of the past Tyrone brought the whole feigning injury to a new level last year in the final trying to get fellas sent off etc.. Kilkenny tend to step across the line when playing I think (if not they are very close to it) Meath aren't half the team they were Dublin don't have it to win the All-Ireland despite being the best in Leinster Mayo don't have the bottle for All-Ireland final day Wexford hurling is in dire trouble Armagh probably play one of the most negative styles of football I've ever seen (despite their hammering of us in the league this year in a high scoring game maybe they have turned a corner) Cork are a disagrace and I hope they don't win an All-Ireland for sometime Tip think they are better than they really are See I've issues with most counties it's not just Ulster. So I think people from Ulster should take the negative posts as negative posts

Colin WEx, so are you saying that noone should respond to you when you post a negative attitude towards their county?..i think regardless of where people are from, they have a right to respond to some of the nonsense that's written here....i wish you would give us some examples of tyrone players feigning injury in last years final?..or have you just unearthed another gross generalisation about tyrone football??..so i'll look forward to the detail on this that you can produce and then we can respond to it...or maybe you think going down under a clothes line tackle is feigning injury??...i think this post brings forward some of your deep-seated prejudice

In my very basic analysis of the current football situation, on the one hand you've got the sublime free-flowing style of Kerry who have breezed through their recent AI victories against Mayo and to be honest those games were very poor spectacles for the viewers, despite the kerry skill on show. On the other hand, you have the intensity and stamina (and no shortage of skill either) by the likes of Tyrone and Armagh - all their tussles with the likes of Kerry and Dublin have been edge of your seat stuff and relatively tight games. In my opinion, the latter examples are the more memorable games and most exciting from a neutral point of view.

It will only be a matter of time whenever kerry get the upper hand over an ulster team in the AI final, that rivalry being one of the most intriguing aspects of the game at present.

In fairness stranmillis29 the only Ulster team that can put it up to Kerry are Tyrone in recent AI Championship matches. Armagh don't enter the frame. In the last 10 years, we played them 4 times, Kerry won twice and drew once. I'd hardly call their one and only AI win the "upper-hand".
