I'm an east tyrone man but I admire and have watched Antrim hurling since the mid 80s and watch the club games when I worked in the city even lined out once for a north Belfast team, never again btw, but whose these boys?

Galway mmmmm. Get off your high horse. In 1980 Ballycastle lost by 3 points to a fabulous Castlegar team backboned by the Connolly's (including the best Galway player of all time, John Connolly). Galway won the All-Ireland senior title that year too.

I know some of Antrim's other leading clubs have performed well against Galway club teams since then, but I'll let others provide the details. I used to like Galway as a hurling team, but I'm have second thoughts now!!

we have a decent enough record with glaway clubs. played Athenrye twice, one win and on defeat, and Portumna twice, one win and one defeat. Also played sarfields, drawing the first game and losing the replay.

galway club sides are very rarely poor, well maybe loughrea that year they beat cushendall, but that would be the only one i seen.

Gerry Mc Inerney and Joe Cooney were fine players,Antrim could have used them.

From Footsie 1to15:

With regard to Antrim Football's finest 15, there will be few people currently living who will be able to truly appreciate the virtues of the greats of the 1940s/50s and the likes of Kevin Armstrong, Paddy O'Hara, Kevin Gibson, Mc Ateer and Bateson, etc. However, with regard to the most recent generation of Antrim footballers ( last 40 years) I would suggest the following:

1 - Sean Mc Greevy
2 - Ciaran Hamill
3 - Sean Burns
4 - Colin Brady
5 - Sean Kelly
6 - JP O'Kane
7 - Alec McQuillan
8 - John McKiernan
9 - Michael McCann
10 - Aidan Hamill
11- Kevin McGourty
12 - Gerry McCann
13 - Kevin Madden
14 - Andy McCallin
15 - Micky Darragh

You have to do back to 1980 for a comeback, that's 40 years ago. Can you not come back with something more recent? For the record, John onnolly is not Galways greatest ever hurler, it is actually Murty Killilea. If you don't have facts, you should not be on this forum. If every county was like Antrim, where would hurling be? Think we all know the answer.

mmmmmmmm.............If we were all mathematicians like you we'd be in a worst state,1980 is only 30 years ago not 40.Now that the"Celtic Tiger" has gone back to the jungle is no excuse for lowering your educational standards.

What you refer to as puerile openions are realistically hard core facts wheather you like it or not. No wonder Antrim is where it is with the likes of you.

O ya and for your information 40 years ago is actually 1970 and not 1980 so get your facts right before you start talking about mathematics

Galyway mmmmmm

Never heard of Murty K and from your previous postings I don't think you have much of a clue about hurling in Galway or elsewhere in Ireland. I think if you ask your fellow Galway-folk John C would be up at the top of a lot of their lists of best ever Galway Hurlers. Also, I think you'll find that Dunloy have beaten your club hurling champs more recently than 30 years ago.

In response to mmmmmmmm from Galway:

Most people would presume that this particular thread was for contributors to give their views on the best 15 players to represent Antrim in Football and Hurling - the clue is in the title!!

Your contributions since 26th October have taken the correspondence off on a complete tangent and, quite frankly, have absolutely nothing to do with the topic in question. It appears to me that you have nothing of any substance to contribute. Please log on elsewhere and give us all a break!!

I have still yet to see a footballer in antrim better than the late Gerry McCrory.

footsie1to15, you cant just make presumptions and expect everything to be about what you want it to be about.

This thread is "15 all time greats from Antrim. hurling, football"; however it seems to be hijacked by Galway NNNNNNNNNNNN into something else.
Would the mighty Joe Quinn not be a better midfielder than McCann ?
Likewise James Connolly midfield for hurling.

mmmmmmmm............As some else pointed out this forum concerns Antrim players,so butt out,you know nothing about. You have had it easy down through the years, you know nothing about the hardship and problems that teams up here had trying to keep the games going during troubled times.your biggest problem was probably where to borrow a donkey and a set of panniers to bring the turf home from the bog in Connemara.
