To be honest, I go on this website to find out football news and the threads on the mainpage always seem to be more serious than on Longford threads which is overwhelmed by teens taking the ****. So I propose that start the weekend, everybodyy who is at a match, just drop a few lines as to who is playing well and what individuals are standing out. No silliness involving Gareth Hughes, Cormac Smyth, etc. just a fe lines. Ad to respond to Dromard Abu, it was an embarrasing defeat when you take in the crowd that attended, the lack of training, the team selected. We are a county of low expectations even though we have lots of quality,

you seem to be well in the know with regards the set up? disgruntled substitute perhaps?? cant see what management did wrong in fairness, they arent the ones kickin the ball! personally thought mcelligot would be good enough to start at centre half forward. the crowd was poor but thats up to the people of longford to get out and support the lads!

heard big nialler back on form. abbeylara had a very young team out, played well but storry of the game was nialler who played a blinder. any match reports. anyone want to share views to start of league and how your club fared

Reckon Abbey had at least 5 or 6 players better than big Nialler but he done ok for his first game in a while and scored a good goal. Colmcille seemed to be short a good few regulars and had a few more seeming very unfit. Thought Podgie Berry was exceptionally good until Noel Farrell was moved onto him but most of the damage was done at that stage.

Yea heard Colmcille were missing Declan Reilly, one the farrells and donie mckeown (is he playing at all this year??), among others. Good win for Columbas, though heard Clonguish were missing a few, is that right? Killoe had a narrow win over understrength Mostrim, Slashers beat Ardagh handy enough, were they impressive? Rathcline beat granard, two teams battling to stay up i would imagine! Ballymahon and Dromard drew, were both teams at full strength?

Good to see big Naill back to give it another lash, great servant for longford football...to be honest i cant see colmcille doing to much this year,i reckon they will be knocked out after the group stage of the championship by either clonguish or killoe!!they did well last year but there an arogant bunch of lads and everybody il be out to beat them!!

Also well done to mullinaughta on there win friday night, great result for the so called minnows of division 1!!

Roy you are probably right about Colmcille. Guess everyone will be out to beat them this year.
They were damn lucky nobody wanted to beat them last year!!

colmcille will surely struggle without Donie McKeown who has scored around 3 65 in last 2 championship runs. Although dec reilly was absent as well and he is the man that makes them tick. Ardagh will struggle big time with no keenan and Slashers were always gonna beat them. Dromard and Ballymahon was a horrible game i heard and a draw was a fair result. Gaels beat connolys who are missing o neill, dalton and mckeown so they will surely struggle this year. Next gameweek will be interesting with county players ineligible. Dromard, abbey and clonguish will be badly hit.

Regardless of whether teams want to be colmcille or not I can't imagine they will lie down to easy, reckon they will be semi final bound at least. Lot of talk of killoe on these pages, for a team who have achieved nothing in the past few years, dont know what thats about! No real surprises in the league over the weekend, fair play to columbas there coming out fighting anyways, even if clonguish are missing a few players they have to be disappointed to be beaten by the "minnows".
How come next round games is without county players, what other rounds are? hows this decided??

Heard Longford Slashers were not as good as they have been made out to be, putting aside it was the 1st game they were said to be shocking bad!! Was Jimmy Gacquin a good choice or does he just not have the quality??? Great to see Clonguish losin aswel!!

well i jumped for joy when i heard the clonguish result.
you'd swear some of them were god's gift to longford, the way they go on.

abbeylara are the team to beat this year IMO.....niall sherdo will make a huge difference this year.
how could mickey harkins leave him out last year?

Hear mullineachta played some good football but clonguish had a funny lookin team out, a lad just back from two years in oz startin in the half back line, no dowds or enda w but the three bardens were there only one change made five minutes to the end, good win for mullineachta against an unfit looking clonguish

So what do people think of mullinaghta's 1st round win. Will it change their prioities for the season or was it just the opposition had no fight. everyone will admit, dat with mcgelligots, mulligans, brady matthews, etc. that they have a decent core but is the whole team a strong unit. What are colmcilles ambition for the year. They are far from where they were this time last season to be honest in terms of fitness and strength. What about abbey and their new manager Hagan. He picked a very young team, the opposite style of what he had at Dromard. And Dromard, they have the players but do they have the heart, personally i think not, too many inflated egos and too many players filling positions atm. Slashers also worth a mention but with martin nevin startin, i wouldnt be too worried. Killoe, well theyll do what they always do and thats **** on the eggs. any opinions?

What are you on about knafelnikov,Martin Nevin when fit is a good corner forward as good as there is on any other team

fair play to mullingnata. I think clonguish are jsut back training but still fair play, its a good feat goin there and winning. As with longford club every year, its tough to predict. Any team can beat another on any given day, Mostrim beat Dromard in the championship remember. I personally think that Abbey look strong, they have a very experienced core, and some excellent young players coming through. Colmcille will find it tough to have that same humger and desire to go at it again this year so im going to write them off. Dromard have the talent, no doubtin that and they consistently prooduce. Killoe, Connollys, Ballymahon wil do but wont be there come the business end unless Killoe sneakingly get themselves into a semi liek last yr. Clonguish should win the county title every year but whether its egos or disinterest, i dunno, so they wil do good in league but flop around quarters in championship. Slashers are havin huge turn outs for trainin so im hearin and jimmy gac will put his stamp on their style of play so im expectin another strong year frm them.

PREDICTION FOR LEAGUE
1. Dromard
2. Clonguish
3. Killoe
4. Abbeylara

PREDICTION FOR CHAMPIONSHIP
I'll go for Abbey, with Dromard or Slashers to push them closest.

RELEGATION
Connollys

iknowmystuff....I think Dromard and Clonguish have too many players involved with the county panel to finish 1st or 2nd in the league position wise unless you meant winner or runner up in the Leader Cup final which would be much more probable.Top places are more likely to be filled by teams with fewer county players like Slashers,Rathcline or maybe Ballymahon,Abbey have a good squad too.Clonguish have already lost to Mullinaughta when county players were permitted what chance will they have when there is a clash??Obviously they will be in the mix near the end but I will be surprised if they even finish in the top 4 leaguewise.League Table Predictions 1.Abbey 2.Slashers 3.Ballymahon 4.Dromard

kasbah bliss, do you not think that Abbey will also be badly effected in weekends without county players. K. Smith, Archie, Berry and James McEntire. Dromard still have the best non county forward in James Martin available and he will knock up big scores in these weekends i'm sure. What are predictions for this weekend. P.S. God bless the midfielder who has to mark Philip Reynolds this weekend. What a performance in the hyde? Pity other newcomers arent settling as quick. Must win against Down this weekend.

Probably taking a chance on Abbey but I been very impressed with their teams in division 4/5 the last few years, they seem to have a lot of good young players coming through so it might only be a matter of time.Slashers,Mullinaughta,Dromard,Killoe and Drumlish all to win, draws in the other two games.

Fr Manning Gaels v Clonguish...Drumlish to scrape past a poor Clonguish outfit who will be minus the Bardens.
Emmet Og v St Marys... Killoe to win, should be comfortable.
Abbeylara v Ballymahon....An understrength Abbey (4 county players) to just have enough for Ballymahon.
Rathcline v Colmcille....Colmcille by 3.
Dromard v St Patricks...Dromard comfortably.
St Columbas v Mostrim...Mostrim to breach the fortress Laurels against Mullinalaghta w/out Mulligans.

Fr Manning Gaels v Clonguish...Drumlish by 3/4
Emmet Og v St Marys... Tight, reckon Granard have good chance
Abbeylara v Ballymahon....another tight one, probably draw
Rathcline v Colmcille....Colmcille still not firin, reckon Rathcline win this one
Dromard v St Patricks...Absense of firepower for dromard should make this oe another draw
St Columbas v Mostrim...Mostrim should have enough
Slashers v Connollys...slashers should be far too strong

Any idea how many games will be played without county players. This will really cost dromard, clonguish, colmcille, not so bad for abbey i reckon, as they have big squad.
