By the rules you cant play U 21 if you are under 16, I believe you cant play 2 age groups above your own age group i.e. if you are U 16 you can play minor but not U 21. Funny thing is I dont think there is any rule against an U 16 playing Junior or Senior.

Limericklady 09 u must not have been watching Ray Cahill play football in a while. In my opinion, he is nowhere near county standard. Fair enough he was a fine talented young footballer back a few years ago but he has lost all of that since. I have been to a few of the St. Kierans games this year and to be honest he isnt really standing out at club level. But yes I do agree with you that Kierans will give Killulta a good game. Kierans are alwas a hard team to beat but it is hard to see Killulta loosing.

Re - U16 players - they cannot play above Minor level. Rule states that an U16 player cannot play U21, Junior or Senior.

What is the reasoning behind the mungret v Fr Caseys match being called off tonight?

Ray cahill can still finish well, but his scoring in the ballysteen game was just because of bad defending, seanie o connor is the main man 4 kierans

Dreamstar, All under 21 football championship matches were called off because they said "no pitches playable only the gaelic grounds". What a complete joke. Who do the county board or football board think they are fooling? A particluar club that is involved in the under 21 championship and also have players in the panel for the Limerick minor footballers, were told LAST MONDAY NIGHT, that if the minors lose on Wednesday (last night), there would be NO under 21 matches on Thursday. Basically because they will be out again next Monday against Waterford. No pitches available, what a farce and typical hypocrisy once again.

Yes all 21 games called off including both A and B divisions. Pallasgreen were meant to play St. Senans in Ballybrown but it was then moved to the Gaelic grounds and the two A semi finals were meant to be played in Ballingarry and Balligran. Rumour has it that the main reason why the semi finals were called off due to the county minor footballers loosing to Cork last night as this means they are out on Monday. Supposidly John Colbert dug his heels in to try and get 21s game off as a few of the minors would be playing with teir clubs. The football board are an absolute disgrace they are trying to promote football in the county and yet they turn around the night before a big game and to say its off. It will be hard to re fix these fixtures especially with senior football championship just around the corner. John Galvin and Mikey Sullivan would want to get the finger out and get a move on because there not doing much for football in this county.

I totally agree with the two lads its a total outrage! For many of these under 21 fellas its coming up to there college exams and im sure they would like to see these matches out of the way, they are county semi finals after all, no wonder football in this county is in an awful stage!

Dink, you're spot on with that assessment. The Co. Board and football board have turned the U21 championship
in a complete farce. Last week, the clubs involved in the A and B 1/4 finals were told that under no circumstances
were matches being called off or moved and that 1/4 and 1/2 finals had to be played by this weekend.
The minor manager has a tantrum about player burnout ,and the next week the co. board cave in.
This isn't fair to the clubs involved in the semis and you have to question, if there were no city clubs still involved,
( Mungret, St. Pats and Killulta Gaels ) would these games be off at all. At the end of the day, the Co. Board and
Football Board don't care about football in the City Division.

POD09 - Explain your logic on games being called off because of City teams being involved. By the way all tonights minor games are off also, I hear.

Lads,
whats the rush in running off the competition so quickly anyway? There will be approx 2 months in the middle of the summer when teams will be crying out for games but none scheduled...
1st two rounds of the senior championship to be completed in the next 4 weeks then nothing till the end of june/possibly july....
Also I appreciate that postponing games at late notice can be frustrating but does anyone really believe that when the club championships were scheduled back in jan that no-one forsaw county minors playing for their clubs at u21 level?
A different question to answer, is the same scenario likely to happen in the hurling championship? ie county minors lining out for their clubs three days before the munster championship???

i dont understand why people are given out about city football.... at the end of the day the city have 2 teams in the A semi finals ie mungret and st pats and the west have the other two.

Citygael, i never said the u21 games were called off coz of the city teams, merely that if there were only county clubs remaining, these matches would probably not be off as city football takes a back seat in the co. boards eyes.
If your club are playing at a high level of football ,you would know the mountain city clubs have to climb and the
abuse we get when you play county teams. As one other poster said, what's the hurry playing the u21s off so fast,
which i agree but co. board have other ideas for this competition. These games were postponed coz no pitches were
available. Pure bull.

Who mentioned a rush of running off the competition? The county board made it quite clear last week that under no circumstances will any fixtures be postponed, moved or altered. Now to use the excuse that there are no other pitches available in the county for this week beggars belief. Had we a monsoon or something in the last few days??
If we are going down the road of telling our county minors not to play with their clubs, it will not serve this county any good from a competive point of view.

dodgyknee or whatever u like to call urself! There is a major rush for these matches to be played, because between college exams in may and the leaving cert in June fellas just wont have the time to train never mind play county semi finals or what not! And sur jesus how do you expect the games to be played in the middle of the summer when most of these young fellas are shipping off to the states on J1s! County board i urge ye to give these fellas a chance and stop messing them about or they will give up this wonderful game for good!
