Tyrone - Gaa Wasteland

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What is the point of sport if the fans cant celebrate and have bragging rights of their team being the number one team about now. Half of Ireland continue to live in the past.

spoken like a true bandwagon supporter

Ah bad monkey, havent heard of him in a while with his insightful thoughts.
I have been watching Tyrone since 84, even when they were tosh, now I'm watching the AI champions. Its a pleasure but sure I'll enjoy it. Not sure what I was watching in 84, as football never started til 03.

eastgael,15 all ireland titles hardly makes us a gaa wasteland .obviously hurling is weak in our football dominated county.on your reckoning then, kilkenny would be a gaa wasteland too.thats just a silly thread to start.

I will defend the Tyrone hurlers who are fighting against the odds in a county with a bigger cricket tradition for instance than a hurling one. The players are isolated, but they are improving. London are too good for that league. And the difference between Kilkenny's football record and Tyrone's hurling record, probably none. So why do people pick on Tyrone rather than Kilkenny? When is the last time you noticed a Kilkenny poster on here claiming that they dominated GAA, were the best thing since sliced bread, and asking "When did Tyrone last win anything". Answer that question, and I think you have the answer to the first question.

Jeez it's an awful coincidence that three Dublin supporters on this board have a problem with Tyrone. You'd almost think we'd done something to upset them, like beat them or something.

Alas eastgale your county probably has more interest in the Munster rugby team than any of your county gaelic teams and thats where any silverware will be coming from again. Leave the round ball and sliothar to the big boys of football and hurling and got play with your oval ball .

Harsh, very harsh indeed. Look these lads pull on their county jersey with pride and gave it their all, you cant expect much more than that, so when you get muppets coming on here starting threads which are downright disrespectful thats what really sticks in my throat. As I have said before I do care about the county hurling scene unlike a lot of my fellow county posters, but thats my choice, and would like to see the county board take a longer term view on how we can improve hurlings profile. Maybe even employ a coach from one of the big established hurling counties or even Limerick!

We had a bad result on Sunday. Its just unfortunate that Tyrone had to play them in the first game. Truth is that London are far too good for this division and will win it with ease. They will challenge Down / Derry / Armagh in the Ulster as well.
Tyrone have a committed bunch of young players who are developing with each training session (20+ at each one) and on Friday night, one of the Moran's from Limerick is coming to give a session to the players which again will only improve the team.

I'm also glad that my fellow Tyrone supporters are coming on here defending our hurlers.

Very few in Tyrone care about hurling.
That is why. Like the man said, do Kilkenny people care they got hammered in fooball?
Better being good at one than mediocre at 2 (Dublin, Cork, Galway?) Or poor at both, meath etc.....

Wow there Gottabetrue, You must either have a very short memory or are a very young person but it's not all that long ago when Tyrone were poor at both codes as well. As the saying goes "Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"

Diego, another man in the past.

Live in today, there is nothing I or anyone else in Tyrone who can do anything now about what happened in the 60s 70s or 80s.
I have watched Tyrone for years while they were poor, for a few years while they were good and now they are excellent.

Get over the past and live in the present.

gottabebandwagon - this thread about the tyrone hurlers. They took a bad beating by london at the weekend. Why are you bringing football into it

In all fairness, I can understand some of the "triumphalist" Tyrone responses to this thread.

The title and intent of this thread is a pathetic disgrace. A petty Limerick man going out of his way to set up a thread about a game of hurling that is completely irrelevant to him.

I've never even created a thread on hoganstand myself but you can be sure that when I do it wont be to mock the efforts of a county hurling panel doing their best.

Best of luck to the Tyrone hurlers for the rest of the season.

Re brefni39, Read my 2nd post near end of page 1 before you go pontificating. As someone who is involved in hurling at many levels it concerns me when so called gaa people are not making any effort to promote our native game of hurling, thus the dramatic headline and the subsequent flood of interest,or was it a" way over my head Ted" moment for you. Maybe the headline should have wrote , Cavan - gaa wasteland, hows the hurling going in cavan, Strong Club Scene? Thousands of kids learning the skills every week?????

Gottabetrue, What do you consider living in the past, how far back are you willing to accept. I wasn't considering the 60's, 70's or 80's when I stated that it's not that long ago since Tyrone weren't great at either code. Maybe you only consider since 2003 when Tyrone won Sam perhaps? Seem to remember Tyrone couldn't beat the Royals in 2007, Or ever for that matter in the championship.
I have to say I admire Tyrone as the have adapted their style to suit the times recently and I believe now are actually playing more football (Less handpassing) now than they did in 2003/2005 and have adopted a slightly more direct style leaving the forwards in more advanced positions than a couple of years ago. Mickey also have a squad of players that compliment each other and a couple of absentee's dosen't really weaken the side.
