I had a recent discussion with a few men the other evening about some of the best known players for being 'hard men'. I was thinking of the likes of Gabriel McCallan. anyone else got any ideas? redhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 153 - 15/02/2009 18:31:16 207325 Link 0 |

Hardest and toughest is the title DBPC - McMenamin is not hard or tough. The likes of Cavanagh, Mulligan, the McMahons, McGinley....the list is endless, they are all harder and tougher than Ricey. I'd give it to Cavanagh (sorry I don't know anything about the club scene). Because he's so good, opposition defenders tend to drag him and foul him and pull him and whatever else they have to do to get the ball off him. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen Cavanagh give out about it, or retaliate. If the same happened to Ricey - would he react like Cavanagh? Not a chance! That shows hardness, toughness and a lot more to me. I think Tommy Walsh could, and hopefully will, turn out to be like that for us one day. I'd like to see Ricey mark Tommy Walsh and try his antics! 3inarow08 (Kerry) - Posts: 2455 - 17/02/2009 10:56:10 209201 Link 0 |
3inarow, you'll have to hope Walsh follows in Cavangh's footsteps off the field too and doesn't succumb to the temptations of Oz! Fair point about Cavanagh, he has the potential to go down as one of the all-time greats padraic32 (Tyrone) - Posts: 140 - 17/02/2009 12:07:09 209301 Link 0 |
I would have to say that Pascal Canavan is one of the toughest players in Tyrone. Tough because he hit hard and very rarely hit off the ball. A sign of a true tough man. marketleader (Tyrone) - Posts: 2 - 17/02/2009 12:15:34 209307 Link 0 |
3INAROW tommy walsh is not a hard man and ricey is a tough footballer but your sour grapes again has set in with your new posters that would not come out in september lad. Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 17/02/2009 14:55:35 209565 Link 0 |

DBPC - relax a second. I know there are a lot of "new" Kerry posters on here in the last day or two. And none of them like McMenamin. But seriously, come on! Have you not seen what he was doing during the match? Have you seen the footage on youtube? The newspaper reports? The photos? Answer the below: 1. Where have I displayed sour grapes? I wished Tyrone congratulations, and was the first one to do so, after the All-Ireland last year. I'm well used to seeing Kerry lose finals, we've lost 20 of them! You know I'm a fair poster. I have no anti-Tyrone bias, you know that. I've often stuck up for Tyrone on HS. I'm asking for a bit of fairness from you now, so come on - answer the question. 2. Where did I mention that Tommy Walsh is a hard man? I mentioned that I'd like him to be as good as Sean Cavanagh one day yes, but never said he's a hard man. I don't think Tommy Walsh is a hard man. I also said I'd like to see Ricey marking him. I just wonder would Ricey carry on like that against him that's all. I don't think he would. Tommy wouldn't be too long in putting him in his place, you know that and I know that. You've seen the size of him. 3inarow08 (Kerry) - Posts: 2455 - 17/02/2009 15:24:55 209627 Link 0 |
3inarow... no gripes here. everything you said made perfect sense. Re. Sean Cavanagh, he's the only man I ever saw meet Francie Bellew shoulder to shoulder (All Ireland semi 05) and put him down. During the time he was down, Tyrone were awarded the penalty (which while not as dramatic as Peter's late free) ultimately won us the match. Understated- but as hard as they come.. it's just he's such a pleasant fella that he doesn't meet the stereotype. mossgreen (Tyrone) - Posts: 181 - 17/02/2009 18:03:15 209929 Link 0 |
Brian Dooher and Canavan they been beaten, tramped on, taken out of it, ridiculed by pundits and through adversity they've risen to the top. Hill Man (Tyrone) - Posts: 147 - 17/02/2009 19:11:51 209982 Link 0 |
