Spare a thought for Paul Carberry - Going to miss the rest of the National Hunt season after breaking a few ribs and puncturing a lung. He only just made the Festival and now gets injured half ways through. Typical that Jaamid would be the one to cause him the injury, horse wouldn't win at Cheltenham in a month of Sundays.

Yes indeed Loyal, a great jockey and a nice person to talk to !! What a difference a day makes in horseracing and what a dangerous game it is. These boys are very brave and no other sport has as many dedicated heroes !!

Paul Nicholls makes Poquelin his bet of the Festival

This means he won't win. I'll never forget all the money that went on Andreas the year he came third purely based on the fact that Paul Nicholls said he was his best chance - was also in this race, the Grand Annual - of the Festival. He came third or fourth. The following year Nicholls made Saintsaire his best bet of that festival and who won the race? Andreas!

Now all the time leading up to this Cheltenham 2009 the great trainer has been going on and on and on about Poquelin. So people be warned if you are backing because of what the trainer has said.

Well thats me out of todays betting. 1 winner, 3 second places and half a double is all I have to show for this year
Looks like I'll be on chilli con carne for the rest of the month
Who wants to give me odds on Bernard Brogan scoring with his head against Derry???

Today is the Day

All the other races meant little in comparison to today. Its:

Kauto Star vs Denman, Round Two

The two great steeplechasers go head to head in the clash of the heavyweights. Last year it was billed as one of the greatest races of all time, this year the two are apparantly in decline. Not a bit of it. Both are as good as ever and I'm predicting that they will pull miles clear of the rest of the field. Air Force One to stay on into a remote third.

Bold statement loyal. Still think Denman is a worthy ew, hard to see him not being placed. See a lot of people talking about raise your heart, got a tip in the same race Silver Jaro, got it last year from the same person, did not back it and it won at 50-1. Think i might go with it this time, maybe even back both ew.

THE BIG ONE:
i dont think denman will go off like he did last year, so im going for Kauto Star. however i'd love to see sam, ruby and tony come up the hill in a line and McCoy to pip them both. exotic dancer would be one of the most talked about horses if kauto was not around and it would be great to see him finally beating kauto.

got word for Ebadiyan in the first,15/2.

The Irish 4yos are normally a poor bunch and this year's lot don't look anything special. They have been finishing on top of each other all season and I'd side with the British 4yos to be honest. Chocolate Thronton and Walkon will probably be the one to spoil the hopes of County Monaghan and Oliver Brady. Jumbio Rio is the best of the Irish.

History to be made today lads with Kauto Star to become the first horse ever to re-claim the Gold Cup. Expect Denman to put up an almighty fight but it will be Kautos day. Sit back and enjoy.....

WHAT A RACE!!!
Kauto now officially one of the all time greats, no question about it. Denman not far off him either. Cant wait for next year already and these two fighting it out again.
This is as good as sport gets people!!

Sickened about Ebidiyan, would have great to see him do well and looked like he was for a bit. Brady's celebrations would have been a sight to behold!
But Kauto saved the day and ends the week on a high note for me!
