Listen, being from wetsmeath, you obviously dont have a clue bout anything in mayo football. it's a ludicrous statement about whether or not we want john maughan back. H He had bad relations with some mayo players who were vital to the team and in all honesty, just look at what happened when he was managung roscommon last year

Are you going playing him or what?

Its an option. If Maughan had 3 years like JOM had he would have been ridiculed. JOM is immune to criticism in most quarters.

shur his record was top drawer when he was there . all-ireland finals 1989, 1996 and rejuvinated the team in 04' beating the holders tyrone on the way to the final. was short a bit of luck in '96 but otherwise he is a tactical genius

I think Kinnear has made a good point there, JOM has done nothing in the 3 years that he has been in charge and a change of management might be a good idea.however i don't think there would be many takers for the position though after the treatment mickey moran recieved! if mayo fail to win connacht again this year, he has to go!!

It looks good on paper but the decisions about players he made were terrible

I can't see any improvement in the team in fact its backwards Mayo is going. Forget about John Maughan but what about Micky Moran. At least he got Mayo men to act like men in Croke Park(Semi Final v Dublin). Scored 3 goals in the first half of an All Ireland Final and still lost to one of the greatest teams of all time, what do we do in Mayo we shaft him and bring in O mahony

He wasnt in charge in 89'. The fact of the matter is JOM doesnt have the same standard of player right now as Maughan had in the mid 90's.

James Mayo, The fact of the matter is John Maughan got Mayo to an All Ireland final in 2004 with a squad made up of extremely young players ie. Alan Dillon, Mortimer, Gill, McGarrity (in his first yr playing), Geraghty, Conor Moran, Moran, Munnelly,Fintan Ruddy along with the 3 or 4 more experienced boys. Mickey Moran repeated the feat with these guys a little older and more in the prime
but now all these guys should be in their peak ie Dillon, McG, Mort, etc etc hitting 26/27 and McD, Heaney still have alot to offer and should be really competing but instead they have stagnated in their prime under OMahony. For that he must accept resp. Maughan and Moran had boys playing out of their skins I feel. As a genuine follower who is passionate about Mayo football and our pursuit of All Ireland glory I feel it is important to point this out

Maughan is by far the best manager to take charge of Mayo in past 50 years. He was just one small step short when he is given the road by county boards in Mayo and Ross. All the behind the scenes work he done at Ross is now coming to fruition . In my honest opinion it is M&M who have done untold Psychological damage to the Mayo team. They tried to turn one of the purest footballing counties in the country into an Armagh type, 12 physical men behind the ball, team. The class of Mac got us past a vastly overrated Dublin in 2006. The flawed game plan of MM was exposed by a Kerry team that never had to come out of 2nd gear. The failure to start Brady, may not have cost us that game, but it certainly cost us whatever chance we had of making it a game. I thought JOM would have been able to put this shocking defeat out of their minds, but it seems that this is beyond even him.. The MAC affair is the last straw for me, but also the introduction and bringing on of new players has been very disappointing. I believe there is no one better placed to lift Mayo than Maughan right now. Even if this humble man, who wants nothing more than to bring SAM home, was to be reappointed, it would probably be 2012 before we would be genuine contenders again.. He should at least be offered it.

Actribe, you're seriously full of it. You spend more time on the Mayo board that you do on the Galway one. Do you have a job?

ACTribe ur 100% right, the team just isnt that good, what is Maughan going to do? Or McDonald? Is he actually 15 top-class players in disguise or something?
We'd get more positives out of bringing back ball-boy...
