DHaise County: Cavan Posts: 28 188363 The vast majority of posters on here are warm weather fans who could barely name you 10 of their own county team nevermind players from from other provinces. Case in point the idiots, who dont even know the names of any Cavan players and left it blank or "None". Well i put None in my slot for Cavan, for a simple reason, i think Cavan are woeful in recent times, i remember the qualifier game between Mayo and cavan a few years back, My Local junior team would put on a better show they were terrible, and plus i never saw cavan play when they were ''successful'' so i have no favourites from that era either paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 27/01/2009 10:31:16 190474 Link 0 |

Brolly - you really should learn your facts before shouting off. Cavan reached the Ulster finals of 1976, 1978 ,1983 and 1995 .Following the 1997 victory they also reached the 2001 final .FACT Great comments from Patrique. hayesy (Cavan) - Posts: 21 - 27/01/2009 21:03:52 191368 Link 0 |
mayo down and cavan are garish new money to wexford's aristocracy they had a four in row done before these boys knew what gaa was. mayo are yet to win four sam's they are more like aspiring gentry and souldn't be on the list. padraigoduill (UK) - Posts: 45 - 27/01/2009 23:34:25 191530 Link 0 |
Hayesey, what game are you following, certainly not Ulster Gaelic Football at any rate, or are you being funny about Cavan football. !!!!!! sam02 (Tyrone) - Posts: 643 - 28/01/2009 00:00:22 191543 Link 0 |
JamsieMac County: Cavan Posts: 24 188770 mossbags As for football anseo the aristocrats are Kerry Dublin Galway Down that is all. not that im claiming that cavan are aristocrats by any stretch of the imagination but Down have 5 all irelands, same as cavan, cavan leads the way in ulster titles so????? Thats a very fair point Mac. The only answer I can give is that down here in my part of the world the Down team of the 60s(before my time btw) are still spoken of with a great degree of reverence. That they could beat Kerry and most southern teams for fun might still be a sore point with Mick o Dwyer but most supporters of that era will have nothing but the upmost respect for them. And the 90's team which was most definitly of my time were a fantastic side whose success has opened the floodgates for other Ulster counties to go all the way and claim Sam as one of their own. As for Cavan I remember them winning Ulster in 97 but thats about it although I do have a lot of time for Seanie Johnson's haircut. mossbags (Galway) - Posts: 1089 - 28/01/2009 13:42:05 192049 Link 0 |

Mossbags I agree with you but feel strangely drawn to add that Micko did use similarly incendiary language about the great Down team in his book as Jack did more recently about Tyrone. Whilst i really don`t wish to get into a further dispute about the North/south divide (which may only be in peoples minds) it would appear to reveal an undercurrent of apprehension in Kerry should a potentially serious Northern challenger emerge from the pack. gaelantrim (Antrim) - Posts: 1616 - 18/02/2009 16:55:28 211050 Link 0 |
