!!! Thats like saying that Nottingham Forest are the real Aristocrates of soccer - Hungary are the real aristocrates of International soccer... Move with the times.

Your quite right there brolly, Nottingham Forest are the true aritocrats of the Englih game. Dont be fooled into believing that the likes of corporate utd and chealski will be dominant forever. Once the values of the game return to football and away from greed you will see a return of the greatest club in footballion history.
As for football anseo the aristocrats are
Kerry
Dublin
Galway
Down
that is all.

charlotted,if you cant think of one player from cavan that has ever stood out i dont know why your posting on this thread.james reilly was nominated for an all-star this year, and you couldnt even think of him,you also have a former all-star and a player on the panel for the interpros, and thats only this years squad.i know cavan are nowhere near alot of the teams at the minute, but i think its a disgrace that people cant name one player from cavan.

It is truly amazing that few can name a Cavan player.

Now everyone could have cheated and said John Joe, Mick Higgins, "Gunner", Tony Tighe, Sherlock, or more recently Charlie Gallagher, Steve Duggan, Jim McDonnell, Gabriel Kelly, or even Ray or Ronan Carolan. To be honest Hugh Newman in 1969 was awesome., but I always like Cussack which is why I selected him.

But many appear not to have heard of these players, and couldn't cheat. And then couldn't name anyone of today's panel, including Johnson who is a wonderful talent.

And as an aside, if the mark of being a traditional power means "winning all Ireland's on a regular basis" well I am afraid that we only have one team then.

Who is your favourite Kerry player?

The thread is most popular player. If you don't have any preference for any player from a particular County then wht can't you leave it blank. To then say most posters are "warm weather" supporters is elitist and insulting. Thats a too often used cliche that is just thrown about like confetti at times.

You don't have to be a (to use some other abused cliches) "die hard" "Died in the wool" GAA fan to express an opinion on this board nor does it mean that your opinion should be devalued by some other poster who has a superiority complex.

Ease up, this is just for fun and is for all supporters of GAA.

As for my own opinion, I respect Cavan's record historically. you cannot take that away but if you carried out a survey outside Cavan and outside your province then even "died in the wool" supporters would be hard pressed to name 5-6 players from your current squad. I would also add that they could easily run-off without hesitation 15 past greats. That may be a harsh fact that you do not wish to accept but I think its true. I myself would opt for Stephen King with damian O'Reilly not too far behind.

Any knowledgeable Gaelic Football fan should be able to pick at least One Cavan player who they have been impressed with over the last few years,we have been on TV a fair bit, any elder posters who would have been around in 60's
i dont claim to be an expert on Gaelic Football nationwide,
but if anyone was asking me about my favourite Carlow,Limerick,Wicklow,Leitrim,Tipperary from the last 10-15 years, i could name the likes of Johnny Nevin, John Quane, Hugh Kenny, Seamus Quinn,Derry Foley etc.
Its quite clear the vast majority on here just have no idea.

I am one of those people who don't have a clue. Sorry.

I will now go quietly into the night and stop cloggging this forum and using space which you should rightfully be filling with your infinite knowledge.

Aristocrats are the past, years of tradition and accomplishment. When discussing sport you cannot live in the future, and claim that someone is an aristocrat based on a few years evidence.

Unless Andy Murray really is the 4th best tennis player, EVER.

Lads. Its a simple list, just give yer opinion. Are some of ye really arguing about the definition of the word aristocrat and who should be covered by that term...?
