Cavan and Mayo the real aristocrates of the GAA? Are you having a laugh!!! Thats like saying that Nottingham Forest are the real Aristocrates of soccer - Hungary are the real aristocrates of International soccer... Move with the times.

Don't be daft. Preston, Huddersfield, and especially Aston Villa, those are the "aristocrats" of English soccer.

Just like real human aristocrats they may have fallen upon hard times and been usurped by "new money", but they are still the aristocrats.

In Gaelic football, Kerry, Mayo, Galway, Dublin, and Cavan are the aristocrats. These are the teams that dominate the record books for PROVINCIAL titles, titles which held some import.

Of course Cavan are right up there with the football super-powers, their last all-ireland may have been a while ago but they remain the most successful Ulster county and their incredible record of Ulster titles tells you everything you need to know.

Since when are Mayo aristocrats of GAA all they won was 3 all-irelands, their last in 51. Hardly the history or pedigree of an aristocrats!

Unless your going to count provincial titles, but to be a true aristocrats I think you have to be winning all-irelands consistantly!

Alas, Bob the Builder, your belief highlights the "new" GAA. Before the back door, less than ten years ago, winning a Provincial medal was the pinnacle of many careers, all some people ever wanted to achieve. The whole county celebrated, and provincial wins were treasured.

Ask Jarlath Burns of Armagh what it meant to win Ulster in 1999, after years of trying. Nine years later, and 6 more titles, the county feel they have failed because they "only won Ulster".

Who would have imagined over a 100 years of tradition could have been eroded in such a short time.
