Gerry Armstrong, Antrim senior footballer, all Ireland vocational schools hurling winner, also played soccer for his country.

- He's an uncle of Galways Sean Armstrong.

- Cillian Sheridan is the celtic player from Cavan, and i think Richie Foran is the Motherwell player you're thinking of.

180771 Ollie and Jayo, I saw Cooley playing a few times in the 70's and 80's and they had a good team. Won a few County Finals and i attended two. They were a hard enough team and did'nt pull back in the tackle (or row). I'd say it was only a small step down for him to be able for the rugby !!
they did indeed have a good team.they reached two leinster club finals in 70s.

Yeh Breffni39, It is Foran. Anyone know where he is now? It was really funny at the time as terry butcher was going mental. It brought some publicity to the GAA in scotland. As Brendan Behan said "the only bad publicity is an obituary column"

Gerry Armstrong actually made a comeback to gaeic games in London when he retired. He lasted one game getting himself sent off.

Ben Traynor won All-Ireland Colleges hurling with Dublin Colleges, and Leinster Senior Cup rugby with Blackrock College in the same year. Also Redmond Barry played Senior Cup rugby at Cistercian Roscrea.

No that was an Offaly Man. The legendary Martin Furlong's brother Tom was making a name for himself until he injured his knee.......

Here's the link..

I must admit I would not play for Rangers either. What with all those Italians and Spaniards and such, they probably spend most of the week at mass and novenas, and lighting candles and all that crack.

Not for me.

Dhorse - yes Denis Irwin must have won a medal a college level because he played for one of the top college's in Cork that was Colasti Chroist Roi and he also marked Niall Quinn in a underage All Ireland Hurling final between Cork and Dublin

they all play gaelic growing up to help build up the strength.

a lot of young rugby lads over like to play gaelic when the rugby closes to keep fit and build up strength getting used to hits etc, granted the hits in rugby would be different and harder.

No dhorse - you're thinking of Dinny Bán O'Sé - a fisherman out of Dingle who landed a big job in a US fishing port. His main job was keeping the decks clear of dead fish and he thus became the first Kerryman employed in the US as a plaice kicker!

ah jayo- awesome stuff, love a bit that ! keep it up

During Irwin's playing days he turned up at a underage hurling game in Cork once while home on holidays there were some many people queing up to get his autograph that he could not watch the game so he told them he would give them his autograph after the game had finished

If Roy Keane was there he would have been ran out of the place
