Will the town be able to field a senior team this year i doubt it. Will the club be alive in 2 year i doubt it with the current executive . In my opinion 1.the executive are completely out of touch with the players desires to be sucessful . This has a similarity to Cork problem back in 2002 with the excutive not realising what is needed to be sucessful but i doubt the Carlow town players will have the same unity as what they have down in cork maybe if it was football it might be a different case 2 . they have loss touch with the ordinary members . have no idea how to link the juvenile to the senior set up . there is no bond in the club. the club house itself is a big white elephant and is hardly used by the ordinary members or is ever opened up for the ordinary which is funny considering it was ordinary members who did all the fundraising and gave blood & sweat and sometimes tears for to get the premises and build it up. Why i say the club will be gone in 2 years is that people who have to the talent and know how to lead the club in the 21st century will not get the chance to fight the dictatorship and anyone who has any local knowlegde of Carlow town hurling club will know what im on about. so what will happening will more good people will leave the club because of poor treatment. then it will be too late. TO you all who love Carlow town hurling club Stand up and fight!! PatDanCTHC (Carlow) - Posts: 12 - 12/01/2009 22:52:55 178845 Link 0 |

All the decent people of carlow town hurling club go out in protest. THe power of the collective is better than the power of one! PatDanCTHC (Carlow) - Posts: 12 - 18/01/2009 21:43:37 183464 Link 0 |
patdan you are spot on about the Carlow THC. The club is almost finished and if the same peoplae are returned next year there will be no hurling in the club from minor to senior. Time for them to wake up and smell the Coffee. No serious hurling coaching since Brennan and franks left some years ago. not competive in any senior match last year. No Hhurler has a chance to develope his game under the present structure. fine club house and field, for who every on out side of the club or county now that clubs around the county are not allowed use the place to warm up for matches. elite (Carlow) - Posts: 12 - 21/01/2009 15:54:57 186040 Link 0 |
Heard that they had Brian Cody talking to the players lately. Seems that the bulk of the listeners was about 22 players and most were minors. So ... perhaps they will be able to field a minor and senior teams...? As for the club itself and its main officers, seems that only about 30 people joined in time to be able to go to the agm. This will be held next month. So...only those people that go to agm can be the officers. The club has been giving out the list of people who are members. The word is that over 100 people had joined for the date that the club itself gave for membership...around the end of October! But then... there was no agm, and so the club will have to pay back those who have joined ,but were given the wrong date ! Some club...by the way...who is the secretary...!!! He/she must be behind the times, definitely not with the times! carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1881 - 22/01/2009 17:21:36 187296 Link 0 |
Tom Kenny "Over the last 20 years we have won three minor titles, three All-Ireland senior titles and two U-21 titles so it will be readily acknowledged that hurling in Cork isn't in a great way anyway and that is no disrespect to coaches at underage level. But I think that at executive level not enough is being done to foster underage talent in the county and even if this panel were to play for the next couple of years after that things would be bleak." no comparison here Cork have won senior all irelands hurling club have won nothing at senior level and there is no continuity from juvenile to senior level. They say Frank Murphy should not be expected to lead the Cork Co Board forever and describe his longevity of service as "unhealthy". similarities in the hurling club!!!!!!!! "In theory, the executive should answer to the Board of Delegates; in reality the Board of Delegates answers to the executive," they said. applies to the hurling club excutive should answer to its members not whats happening though. fair play to the cork hurlers men of backbone PatDanCTHC (Carlow) - Posts: 12 - 29/01/2009 21:32:24 193632 Link 0 |
patdan... again spot on with analysis of ills in the hurling club. Seems that the main officers are swapping positions but yet retain control. Success in the hurling club by its officers seems to be measured by the level of control is held by the few, whether or not control can be retained. A few years ago a different chairman was there and it seems he did make strides to change the club. But... waiting in the long grass were those same officers again. So, from a position where progress was being made, a return to the same 'old' faces. This has been a turn off for many and again a lot of people have been turned off, were not wanted or were 'hunted out' as being surplus to requirements. Word has it that quite a few of last years players are not playing this year, or are seeking to play elsewhere.Sad. So where to from here for people in Carlow interested in hurling? It looks pretty straight forward at this juncture that for hurling in Carlow town to be there in a few years that another club needs to be started or that one or two of the football clubs need to add hurling to their club. The last place to go if you are interested in hurling in Carlow town is... yes ...you've guessed it, is ...the hurling club. Anyone i have talked to over the past 2 years that is involved in the club, is more annoyed and angry and just disinterested in hurling because of their time in that club. That is the saddest and most damning thing of all, that the hurling club puts you off hurling!!! Ask anyone involved in that club... except of course, its officers! By the way... these are the facts that are being relayed to me... not just opinions. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1881 - 30/01/2009 14:06:04 194207 Link 0 |
how is it the hurling club is still playing senior hurling only after winning 1 championship match in 6 years. should they be intermediate and perhaps start at the ground and build up? pal have an intermediate side why cant the other town clubs do it they have the facilites and players . its heart brecking that carlow co hurlers are made up of players from rural clubs with small comunitys and its capital only has dunbar on it. no disrespect to the country clubs , absolutely if your good enough you should be on it. carlow town is a bear that has to be woken to bring carlow co hurling to the next level. best of luck to county hurlers agaist westmeath thejackal (Carlow) - Posts: 5 - 30/01/2009 22:10:53 194627 Link 0 |
'Jackal' to answer your question about why Carlow Town still remain in senior ranks - no one tends to be relegated from senior hurling as there are so few senior hurling clubs in county that county board allow carlow town to stay up - this may change if Palatine win intermediate title some year. A few years ago the town wanted to go intermediate and a meeting was called where every player said they would train and executive promised to do their bit - both sides did not keep up their side of the bargain. dual supporter (Carlow) - Posts: 772 - 31/01/2009 12:42:22 194775 Link 0 |
I hear the club still hasnt had a AGM but by all accounts its shoe in for the current executive. i hear there is still no senior team management in place or no communication to players about it. its all very poorly managed. PatDanCTHC (Carlow) - Posts: 12 - 17/02/2009 21:52:22 210148 Link 0 |
Yea heard the same thing! But.... the club is holding the AGM on Friday night. Seems the only members entitled to be there are about 30 people. That is all that joined.But... over 120 actually joined ! So figure that one out!Yea a problem with the date seemingly! Someone fooling someone or a good few there! Now that is not any news knowing THAT club! Have not heard what the story is about the senior training, i wonder how many of last years panel are going to even play this year? They did have a meeting with B. Cody and Michael Dempsey but mostly minors were there. Still, you never know! That club might resurrect itself again soon! You never know! Should the team be senior at all? They have played a good few junior games over the years, but that is probably a bit low for the club, even Carlow Town! Intermediate does not provide a lot of games either, so a club under serious pressure... perhaps NEW club officers on Saturday morning? Badly needed. Time will tell! carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1881 - 18/02/2009 00:15:07 210291 Link 0 |

It really is a mystery about the junior team.2 final appearances in the last 5 years(winning one)From my experience the town always seem to have alot more lads togging out for the juniors and id even go as far to say that is harder to make there junior team than the senior team. Also does anyone know what nights and time the Seniors are back training during the week?anyone know?As i might head up to see what there numbers are like. fergie (Carlow) - Posts: 1119 - 23/03/2009 14:36:45 237135 Link 0 |
I think you are right Bobby, Seniors won AGAIN yesterday and with alot of players to come back in future looks good and don't see where these handy two points are going to be given to others in the championship. Barry English and Sean Gannon are football tied, Seanie McMahon is due back with young Clancy, Aidan Corcoran is near injury free I beleive, the McCormack brothers return is imminent, Ronan Donnelly and of course the County star of the moment Young Dunbarr who turned up to play after his heroics against Antrim. With the committment of these and a few more I think the knockers of CTHC can shut up and go away and find another bone to chew if they're not willing to get behind their own. There has always been a group of dissedents in the club whose sole aim seems to be to distract from the real ideal which is the HURLING so fair play to ye lads keep it up for Don Walker and his back room team and I'm sure I'll be back to see ye in this years County Final at least. Knock out your KNOCKERS on the field of play and pay no attention to their attention seeking plots. UP THE TOWN. Maybe even our friend Fergie will bring his gear along and when he's finished his counting exercise he might even tog out and get stuck in, who knows he might even bring some of his friends and get the junior team sorted. Took a stroll up to the club house yesterday morning and great to see the numbers of youngsters the club has for their first day of the year back coaching. Was up there last Sept when home on holiday and great to see the likes of young Bobby Agar who won an All_Ireland title representing the club passing on his knowledge, Brendan Hayden, the club's star player from the Nineties was coaching with him, Pat Curran, our star player from the seventies at under age was ably assisted in the middle of the younger boys. There was a great gathering of parents applauding and encouraging these young stars of the future which was a joy to behold. Seems like they've continued in the groove from last year and finally the corner has been turned and hurling has become a priority now that politics has been put on the back burner. Who were they playing yesterday? Was Karl English playing? If the McCormacks are coming back then that is a great boost.Hopefullt the McElligott brothers will be playing to.Also speaking of Don Walker's back room team, who is his selectors? fergie (Carlow) - Posts: 1119 - 23/03/2009 15:53:58 237212 Link 0 |
They played Abbeyleix yesterday and won.The 2 Mc Elligots were playing in the full back line and played very well. Karol English played centre back . Very good performance by the team.Even Rory Dunbar partnered Robbie Moore in midfield at the start of the 2nd half after his heroics with Carlow an hour earlier. thats the commited that will drive C.T.C.H forward. bobbybouche1 (Carlow) - Posts: 73 - 23/03/2009 16:09:29 237234 Link 0 |
Some good performers all round yesterday. Young McElligot at full back looks like he has a future with county set up alongside Dunbar and English who I believe is to return. centrefield (Carlow) - Posts: 65 - 23/03/2009 16:29:39 237271 Link 0 |
