Ok so on tonights Late Late Show celebrating 125 years of the GAA we had Bertie Ahern, Eamon Dunphy,
Brush Shields, Seán Óg Ó Ceallacháin, Kevin Heffernan, Jimmy Keaveney, Kevin Moran and Des Cahill.

That should just about be the Dubs looked after.....does anyone know what county is on next week??

I totally agreewith you on that one Johnny. I felt it was more of a Dublin, Kerry memorial show more so than an actual tribute to the GAA. It was nothing short of disgraceful. I feel as though the GAA are to busy looking after the so called "legends" and not enough time is spent on the important people. At least Des Cahill tried to mention the likes of us Junior C players who tog out every week. But as soon as he done this Pat Kenny decided to talk over him with some question referring to Kerry "great" Paidi o Shea. Its a poor reflection on the attitudes of the Association.

Yeah it was a bit of a disgrace alright, especially when Kenny cut across Cahill immediately when he brought up the junior players, ya cant give out about the GAA for that though, its not like they told Kenny what questions to ask and when to ask them. Cahill needs to get his facts right though, Leitrim didnt when the All-Ireland in '94, we never won it, we won Connacht in '94

HILLONTOUR Why give out about tyrone posters when you talk about dublin the whole time. More that was in the gaa than dublin .

Brutal show IMO. Where was DJ Carey, Brian Cody, Brain Whelahan, Ger Loughnane, Liam Griffin, Ciaran McGeeney, Joe Kernan, i.e. people who have given their lives for the association. Instead we are stuck with Brush Shields - whose involvement with the GAA stems from singing 1 song every 2 years at the international rules, Eamonn Dunphy - played English football with Millwall all his life and only link with the GAA is his Kilknny father, but credit where it's due RTE must have got him on a 2 for the price of 1 deal with the Joe Dolen tribute.

If brush shields version of the fields of Atehnry was the best version of a song we can get it is a joke.

RTE should be ashamed of themselves for that load of rubbish. Absolutely disgraceful.

I agree with bored_sod, brush shiels was an embarrassment, Bertie was spoofing as usual, no sign of DJ or Cody, Mickey Harte sitting there and not spoken to at all. Agree also that Des Cahill tried to widen the discussion but Kenny wasn't having any of it. In fact, its hard to see where 2 hours went - one day later and I cant think of anything of substance at all. Bit of a waste of time all round really.

everyone is right but it is so hard to fit 125years into the late late formula. for me the worst moment was when pat kenny opened the page of a month of sundays showing daire o se the picture of brian dooher holding up sam and asking him to comment. that was pathetic not the way to treat one of the modern greats. i thought he was showing daire a picture of hinself in action. pat kenny then missed the opportunity to ask him if he was going to continue. good idea but i wonder when the idea was conceived. alot did centre around the games of the 70's. now i am a footballing follower but there minimal coverage given to hurling . 125 is a strange birthday to celebrate anyway.

It was quite possibly the WORST show on GAA ive ever seen. I just kept watching it to try and win the oz prize and see how bad it could actually get. I didn't and it did! I'll look forward to RTE's 50th anniversary of the GAA in 2028, apparantly it was established after the 1978 final.
Thought des cahill was the only guest who came out with any credit whatsoever, i'm sick of hearing paidi o se's useless anecdotes. dear me.
a primary school teacher from carlow who teaches the u14 junior b team should have been on that last night telling everybody why he/she does it, that's what the GAA really is, not that luvie tripe we witnessed last night.
By the way, i'm a football man myself but the little time dedicated to hurling was a joke and any hurling county would be a lot angrier than i am at what was served up last night. complete disgrace!
ps wouldnt ye know a cavan woman would win the competition!

To be fair to Dunphy he spoke very well about the GAA, however a show representing 125 years of the GAA should not have been opened by a man who is only associated in a sporting sense with soccer. Dublin and Kerry are the two most successful teams in football but that doesn't mean the other great teams of the 125 years should take such a back seat, very little mention of the great Cork, Galway, Down, Cavan teams etc. Club football was completely ignored and the hurling coverage was a joke not to mention all the other various elements of the GAA. RTE would have been better letting someone front the show with a love (or even knowledge) of the GAA, Kenny seemed more interested in cheap jibes at Bertie.

And who exactly was that muppet with the berret and guitar? in all my years following gaa round the country ive never heard of him or come across such a cringe-worthy load of toss?

its was a fairly pathetic attempt at a tribute alright. the highlight was when the comedian made a comment about straight ladies in the gaa and the producer cut to CORA. comical.

Yeah dead right who every heard of Tipperary, Cork or Kilkenny? What have they ever done for the GAA? they should just burn all the records of camogie, hurling and womens football. that has nothing to do with the gaa and is only holding back the true gaa Dublin and Kerry.

Patrique where is your informed post for this poster? Come on you put the boot in the tyrone lads when they do this, how about now. For all the people who think it is just tyrone posters who have a complete disregard for the history of the GAA i would like to show you exhibit A.

Hate to agree with a mead lad/lassy but she's/he's spot on.

It was a Dubs Kerry memorial night in a paltry attempt to boost the game in the capital.

Makes me sick when the GAA/RTE do that. Pathetic. Only way to answer that is as has been done over the years - KNOCK THE STUFFIN OUT OF THEM ON THE FIELD!!! That's an even better advertisement of the game!!

And you can save your "...when did Louth last win anything..." nonsense. Heard it all before. Would you have as many Dubs/Kerry folk following their team, as Louth do, given the lack of success we have had? Don't think so.

That's real committment for you!! You could learn a lot.

It was an awful show altogether, a disgrace to the GAA. But I suppose what did we expect of a Late-Late show? Pat Kenny knows sod all about GAA, Des Cahill(who was one of the few good contributors) would have a far better choice to anchor such a show, but once it was a Late-Late show special it was always doomed. Some of the guests were comical, what the hell has Brush Shiels got to do with the GAA, over countless other people who have done so much in the organisation over all these years? It was basically a big Dublin-Kerry love-in, with very minor mentions to Kilkenny and Tyrone(no disrespect to Dublin or Kerry people, but there's alot more to it than that), and little talk of hurling altogether. When Pat Kenny showed D O'Sé the photo of Dooher lifting Sam I thought he was going to lamp him one! Talk about rubbing it in!

What a load of rubbish RTE put out. Shame on them. Why was someone like Des Cahill who knows about the G.A.A. not presenting the programme. Come on R.T.E. do the G.A.A. justice, go back to the drawing boards and come up with a decent programme to mark 125 years of the G.A.A.

Yes the emphasis on Kerry-Dublin was a bit much although I suppose they do have the most All Irelands.
