Didnt make the game today mozy, but got some news from it. There is still a panel of forty players and during the fbd each Player will get one start one bench and wont be involved for one game. As far as today is concerned didnt get the line out but Shane Canning and Darren Sweeney GlencarManor started midfield, Mulligan did most the scoring and Canning, Gavin McWeeney and James Clancy(carrick) Got yellow Cards they were replaced by Ronan Gallagher (Canning) Adrian OFlynn (glancy) Thats all the news second hand clips of the radio. Apparently it was a game Leitrim controlled and were ahead right through, but contrived to lose. It seems our inability to rack up scores is still an achillies. But itseemsto be a fair trial system at least. But a win wouldbe nice. I am sure there will be more updates I let you know when I know. Liatroim Abu.

Leitrim threw it away today. 7 yellow cards for Leitrim- left them down to 13 men at the end. 4 yellow cards for GMIT. It was not a dirty match. The new rules are a disgrace. We will have inconsistencies in different Ref's interpretations judging by this match (Colleavy in Tuam) and comparing to the clip on RTE news of David Coldrick in Kildare match - No yellow cards there.
Experimental Leitrim side especially in defence with Micky D as Centre Half Back, also Barry Mc Weeney and Barry Prior. Up front Ray Cox was best forward. Maxwell came on in 2nd half and shored up midfield which GMIT dominated. He replaced no 8. Canning (Yellow Card), Ronan Gallagher later replaced Darren Sweeney at no 9 - not at the races. Gallagher missed easy point when he should have passed to Cox at critical time near end. Mulligan was good from frees but missed vital one at end unlike the GMIT No.12 who got the last two scores long range frees. Gill in goal was good at stopping but poor kick out.
A bit of composure with 5 mins to go when Leitrim had a free which was kicked aimlessly and led to a GMIT attack and resulted in a penalty and levelled the game. Not a great start. Plenty of work for the Ulster boys to improve on.

An injury-time free from Donal Shine handed GMIT a slender one-point victory over 13-man Leitrim in Tuam Stadium in Round One of the FBD League. The match -- which was by no means cynical -- saw a total of 10 yellow cards as the ill-discipline of the Leitrim side saw them fall short after leading throughout.

GMIT, facing a three-point deficit with 10 minutes left were awarded a penalty after Barry Prior hauled down Stephen Kavanagh inside the area. Shine dispatched the penalty and followed up with two monster kicks late on to seal victory.

Despite dominating possession for the opening half GMIT found themselves two points in arrears at half-time, mainly thanks to the accuracy of Emlym Mulligan and an efficient Leitrim forward line.

After a great score from Brendan Faherty early in the second period brought GMIT within two points, a brace from Damien O'Donnell pushed Leitrim further into the lead after an hour.

However, after using two substitutes in the second-half, they were forced to finish the match with 13 men as James Glancy followed Prior to the line late on, as the frequent stoppages spoiled the match as a spectacle.

Scorers -- GMIT: D Shine 1-7 (1-0 pen, 7f), B Flaherty 0-2. Leitrim: E Mulligan 0-5 (5f),D O'Donnell 0-3, D Maxwell, D Sweeney, D Gilhooley 0-1 each.

GMIT -- R Hannan; E O'Sullivan, D Vaughan, P McGrath; A Deacy, D Lee, P McGinley; P Conroy, C Glynn; S Hughes, A Campbell, S Kavanagh; M Martin, D Shine, B Flaherty. Subs: M Kelly for D Vaughan (yellow card 35), C Boyle for P McGinley (yellow card 48), D Keane for P McGrath (yellow card 50) and C Mulrennan for M Martin (yellow card 57).

Leitrim -- N Gill; L Ferguson, B Prior (yellow card 60), D Flynn; B McWeeney, M Duignan, D Beck; S Canning, D Sweeney; D O'Donnell, E Mulligan, D Duignan; R Cox, T Beirne, D Gilhooley. Subs: A O'Flynn for B McWeeney (yellow card 21), J Glancy (yellow card 71 for D Flynn (yellow card 31), D Maxwell for S Canning (yellow card 37), J Holohan for D Duignan (45), R Gallagher for D Sweeney (55), P Gilmartin for M Duignan (yellow card 57).

Ref -- G Kinneavey (Galway).

Some positive selections by the new management. Wasnt at the game but delighted to see few different players getting a look in and also different positions for the older players being tried out. Wouldn't give a hoot if we lose all our FBD games as long as we are in good shape for the league. Get out of div 4 and give connacht a good shot.

The 3 teams have already been picked with al sides being very experimental. FBD games aren't worth a hoot. Let the rossies huff and puff til the summer. Anyway on another note fair play to donie shine yesterday. Last time I seen him was in pearse stadium in the heat of championship and we all know how he did that day!!!

Trader Sam made the journey to Tuam yesterday.

Trader Sam is not here to give match reports.

Trader Sam was impressed by the performances of Damien O'Donnell and James Glancy (St. Marys).

Trader Sam respects Mr. Moran and Mr. Morrisons selection policy and looks forward to seeing more new faces next weekend.

Trader Sam leaves no value on the results of these FBD games.

Trader Sam has spoken.

Yes I believe it was. We were sitting beside some bulgarian fella in the stand who had a sign saying "get out of the comfort zone". Hopefully he'll be back this year

i agree johnnos bulls, some games last year we were definetly playin 'in the comfort zone'. at times it was like we were playin like lokomotiv sofia 15 points clear in the bulgarian A professional league, he attends most leitrim games, a good character, i'd prefer to see him offer more scores from open play but as the commonly used cliche goes "hristo stoictov's loss is most definetly leitrim's gain"..agree??
