I can shed light on the 4 Kilanerin players mentioned. From the back forward, Aidan Jones, Quick, tenaciious and never caught out all year in senior football. Almost always picked up the oppositions strongest forward. Still only 18 so maybe another year of senior club might do him no harm before this level, but he is still good enough to be on the panel and I wouldn't panic if I saw him starting for wexford. Excellent prospect. Colm Kavanagh. 20 years old. Class act, had commitment issues due to work and sorted these out last April/May. Kilanerin would never have won a county title without him. Hard as nails and quick too. Shoo in at full back. Gavin O Toole. Good prospect. Accurate off either foot and is strong. Maybe lacks a little bit of pace for this and relies on strength at his own age level, maybe needs another year to bulk up. Cathal D'arcy. Accurate and a deadly freetaker off his left foot.In the intermediate quarter final against Taghmon last year Kilanerin had 70% possession, he was being marked by a man who looked 40 and ran like he was 40, yet Cathal never scored from play despite being pacy. I don't think he will ever make our senior team and I don't think he is good enough for county u-21 either. So from the 4 we have 1 full back 2 subs and 1 that won't make it. i agree with tyson and da poultas. we should be encouragin young lads to play our games. so if that fella farrell wants to play let him, who cares what age he is. theclawhammer (Wexford) - Posts: 240 - 20/01/2009 19:32:56 185325 Link 0 |
i cant agree with what nocky said.... like david farrell is worth throwing in there, you cant say he is too old, he is only 21 years old. i think two more years at this level isnt beyond him... he's not bate yet miketyson (Limerick) - Posts: 2748 - 20/01/2009 20:09:21 185354 Link 0 |

Ya having an over-age player in twice is a good idea!!! Jonesy is good but not a full back and Cowman could play many positions but I wudnt think center back is one Snialler (Wexford) - Posts: 19 - 21/01/2009 16:18:43 186094 Link 0 |
farrell could well play in goal too!!!!!! rossytilidie (Wexford) - Posts: 300 - 21/01/2009 17:10:39 186219 Link 0 |
Kilanerin fotty I dis agree with not selecting Jones on the team due to him training well and having a decent game against Tyrone and was one of the only players to play the full match...I agree fully with Kavanagh full back and I think he will have a great campaign beef (Wexford) - Posts: 16 - 21/01/2009 18:17:01 186315 Link 0 |
shane kavanagh has to be corner or wing back..a great man to field a ball and adds a great deal of bulk to the back line which is crucial doom_and_gloom (Wexford) - Posts: 28 - 22/01/2009 10:46:01 186839 Link 0 |
miketyson for someone from limerick you seem to have a detailed knowledge of the Wexford scene, apart from your failure to comprehend that David Farrell will not be playing u-21 football this year due to his ineligibility. Could it be that you are a imposter, perhaps another pseudonym for Cager95?? nocky (Wexford) - Posts: 2059 - 22/01/2009 15:56:12 187171 Link 0 |
Kilanerinfooty, are you the same guy who posts as footyfan on another site ?? yellabelly (Wexford) - Posts: 1062 - 23/01/2009 14:41:49 188068 Link 0 |
Nocky... im entitled to my opinion and i think where i live is beside the point... look if you dont think farrell deserves his place fair enough, i respect your opinion but in my opinion farrell is good enough for this level and should be given his opportunity, regardless of age, gender or anything miketyson (Limerick) - Posts: 2748 - 27/01/2009 18:50:11 191244 Link 0 |
Surely Anton Stafford Should be a part of this u 21 team or at least a part of the panel. He has great skill and talent and amazing pace.Wat do you think beef (Wexford) - Posts: 16 - 28/01/2009 18:14:12 192452 Link 0 |
Beef, I may have been harsh on Jones. He is a class act but is still young, you seem to have seen him play with the under 21s so I will bow down to your superior knowledge of this time of year, but like I said, we rate him very highly in the club and I wouldn't panic if he does start in the championship. Lads, there is no way a thread about the u21 footballers would generate this much debate with general Wexford fans. So can I please ask the Wexford u21 footballers to stop writing about yourselves and good luck against Kildare. Do your talking on the pitch not on a forum. Ballyhack, steady on there. Dont make general sweeping statements like that. Im definitely not under 21 but i like to give my opinion and air my views on ANY topic. yellabelly (Wexford) - Posts: 1062 - 30/01/2009 14:11:09 194213 Link 0 |
Youre out of order there Ballyhack. Who should we talk about? How many of our hurling teams got to a Leinster final last year? Or put in half as much effort as the U21 footballers? icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2581 - 30/01/2009 14:52:54 194285 Link 0 |
